BLSour milestones

1970BLS starts its activity in Milan by setting up its first production laboratories and offices. Initially production was concentrated on disposable cup shaped masks. 2012

BLS do Brasil launches, in Curitiba, a new office to reach the South American market.

2014BLS builds new headquarters in Milan to expand production lines. The new headquarters extend along a 5000 sqm surface and were built with the most modern technologies.

2015Our 45th anniversary. Today BLS is a manufacturer able to offer one of the most complete range of negative pressure respiratory protective devices.

1996BLS enhanced the range of its products by introducing a new carbon layer into its cup shaped range.

2003BLS takes over Tecnopro, an Italian manufacturer of full face masks and half masks with twenty years of experience in the industry.

2005BLS obtains the ISO 9001certification.

2006BLS in order to meet a rising global demand BLS starts to invest in its own internal BLS ENGINEERING TEAM to develop fully automated production lines for its products.

2010BLS acquires a facility in Spain that is dedicated to the manufacturing of filters.

BLS is a manufacturer with its own production facilities of disposable and reusable respiratory protective devices. BLS has a production facility near Barcelona - Spain - dedicated to the reusable respiratory protection products and another in Milan - Italy - dedicated to the filtering facepieces. Half masks and full face masks are assembled in both facilities.

The minimum service life is one work shift. They can only protect from particles.There are three classes of devices ranked according to filtering efficiency and inward leakage (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3).

VALVE / In filtering facepieces, valves help to ease the breathing resistance and dissipates heat and humid air exhaled by the user.

FOLDABLE / Can be easily put in the pocket as well as being sold in vending machines. Flickit in particular can be opened without touching the inner part of the mask in contact with the face ensuring a higher hygiene.

NOSECLIP / Its function is to secure the fit of the respirator to the most critical part of the face among users, the upper nose.

MECHANICAL / Filter material has a net structure with nanometric meshes blocking particles bigger than the net of fibres.

ELECTROSTATIC / Smaller particles are subject to a further filtration by the electrostatically charged filtering material. Therefore, the smaller the particulate, the stronger the electrostatic attraction.

ACTIVATED CARBON / A layer of fabric impregnated with activated carbon could be added to the filtering materials. This special layer of carbon enhances the protection of the product in the presence of nuisance odours.

Full face masks are divided according to the type of application: 1- Light, 2- General, 3- Special.Gas filters can be classified according to duration (gases and vapours), efficiency (particles) or both (combined).Particle filters can be classified, according to filtering efficiency.

HALF MASKS / The use of a half mask can reduce the fatigue and stress of breathing and may be the best option in many cases. It is essential to analyse each risk and determine the correct protection needed.

FULL FACE MASKS / Protect the whole face and ensures a higher protection factor. They can be used in combination with supplied-air products or PAPR.

FILTERS / They are connected to the mask. They can protect from particles, gases&vapours or a combination of both. The same filter can sometimes be used in both half or full face mask, depending on its features.

PARTICLES / Particles filtration is ensured by means of a pleated medium. The pleating of the material ensures a higher filtering surface and reduces breathing fatigue.

GASES&VAPOURS / Gases and vapours are adsorbed using activated charcoal. This material is characterized by a high porosity structure that traps gases and vapours in its surface. The surface can also be treated to adsorb selectively one or more groups of specific substances.

BLS TECHNOLOGIES FOR DISPOSABLE PRODUCTS

EOLOEolo Technology is a new fastening system for the membrane of the exhalation valve. The ultralight membrane is fixed on three aligned points instead of a single one. This way it is possible to concentrate the exhaled air into two zones of maximum opening. The cover protecting the membrane is higher and allows a greater opening of the membrane. The new lid also has an opened surface for the air flow that is 30% wider than the average valve. With these improvements breathing resistance decreases significantly.

FLICKITFlickit is an innovative opening system designed to ensure easy fit and product hygiene. Thanks to its innovative design, Flickit is a flat foldable facepiece that opens in just 3 easy steps, without touching any of the inner surfaces that will be in contact with the user’s face when worn. No other flat fold facepiece on the market ensures such a high level of hygiene and a pocket dimension. The folded mask is ideal for distribution through vending machines.

NANOFILTRATIONParticle filtration requirements, as described by European standards on PPE, are focused on microparticles. Within a project involving several strategic partners, we have developed a specific test method to verify the protection level of our facemasks against nanoparticles. We studied the exposure towards a significant range of particles starting from carbon based substances to several metals and metal oxides. The results enabled us to find the right strategy to combine microparticles protection to nanoparticle risks. With NANOFILTRATION, BLS can now guarantee a new level of protection against nanoparticles.

SUPPORTThe support material has a special texture constituted of interwoven bundles of fibres which give elasticity and resistance to the material even after prolonged use under conditions of high humidity or heavy perspiration. This innovative material is also entirely, adhesive and solvent free.

GASKETThe gasket is made of a soft foam coupled with a technical fabric. The combination of the two layers provides excellent compression and deformation combined with an elevated user’s comfort. EXTERNAL PROTECTIVE LAYERThe innovative protective micronet preserves the filtering material from dirt, dust and liquids. This way the external layer preserves and prolongs the filtration efficiency without increasing breathing resistance of the filtering facepiece. The micronet, less elastic and more resistant than filtering materials, protects from mechanical stress that could tear or damage the material (i.e. crease, rub).

PREFORMINGThe unique shape of the nose area makes the facepieces very easy to wear. The new Zer0 series fits perfectly on different head shapes to ensure an excellent seal. The new shape also ensures a wide field of vision and high compatibility with personal equipment for eyes protection.

EXHALATION VALVEThe exhalation valve is made of a high quality silicone that is protected by a rigid removable cover allowing the valve to be cleaned for breathing comfort improvement and to preserve hygiene after repeated use.

FILTERSEach filter is composed of three rigid shells which protect the filtering materials, made by pure activated charcoal, from shocks avoiding accidental deformations. This way the micro-grain of activated charcoal always remains intact and well distributed and the filtration performances are optimized.

Ready to use and maintenance free /

8000 series half masks do not require maintenance and are ready to use. The mask is simply replaced when the filters are used up. This half mask combines the simplicity of disposable products with the protection of the reusable ranges offering a certified protection against both PARTICLES and GASES.

The facepiece’s shape also ensures high visibility and low interference with the visual field thanks to the lower positioning of the filters and to its compact size.

INCORPORATED ELASTIC BANDSThe main advantages of this product are simplicity and robustness. 8000 series half masks have elastic bands incorporated in the filters and in the facepiece.
