Provenance is of the upmost importance to us. We use age old techniques and manufacture them in their authentic form and place of origination.

India is a unique manufacturing country. The breadth of materials, techniques and skilled expertise is a constant inspiration when developing our collection. From the hand embroidered crewel work in Kashmir, to the hand knotted rugs from Varanasi to the intricate bone-inlay from Udaipur. We are proud to work with such skilled manufacturers and craftspeople. We endeavor to re-interpret these ancient skills with in a contemporary context to ensure their survival.

Niki draws inspiration from her discoveries whilst travelling the globe. Her designs are reflective of her traditional Scottish roots where she discovered a love of craft and textiles, mixed with her adventurous and extensive travelling.She combines different cultural references with in her designs with a love of traditional technique, natural materials and colour, creating a distinctive collection of unique textiles and rugs.

The studio is committed to original design with an emphasis on quality and integrity.

In addition to her collection Niki provides a bespoke service for her rug collection and exclusive projects for retailers and private clients.

Embroidery has been dated to China in the 5th-3rd century BC. The process used to tailor, patch, mend and reinforce cloth fostered the development of sewing techniques, and the decorative possibilities of sewing led to the art of embroidery. We explore many forms of embroidery from wool crewel work, silk hand embroidery to machine

embroidery.

Machine embroidery produces some of our more precise geometric designs. The contrast of the mercerised embroidery thread against the matt linen base cloth

creates a striking effect.

Bespoke by Niki Jones is a customised service for our unique collection of hand tufted and hand knotted rugs. We have a distinctive palette of colours to choose from & can tailor make the dimensions of your rug, creating a piece that is truly bespoke for you. Each rug is entirely handmade, using the finest New Zealand wool, by craftsmen whose skills have been passed down for

generations.

The importance of choosing the right rug for your room can not be underestimated. A good rug can be the foundations for a space and tie all the various elements together. Any bespoke commissions will be re-drawn to maintain the original design integrity. We have sets of coloured pompoms and rug swatches to help you make your decision and Niki is always happy to

discuss and advise you with your choice.

Lead time from the date of order confirmation is 130 days for hand knotted rugs and 100 days for hand tufted rugs.

Crewel Work is a traditional hand embroidery technique that originates in Kashmir, North India. The wool embroidery stitch moves with the direction of the design creating an amazing swirling texture.

The skill of crewel embroidery has been handed down for generations and is a unique art form. Our large Folk rug takes 60 days to produce due to the intricacy of the design and the full coverage of the embroidery.

Our unique collection of bone inlay and mother of pearl inlay furniture is inspired by antiques which once adorned the palaces of

Rajasthan.

Traditionally this craft would have been created in ivory but now it is made with mother

of pearl or bone.

All our shell and bone is sourced from reliable sources and is certified by the Indian

Government.

Our collection is a re-interpretation of this traditional craft. The pattern has its roots in Morocco and has been simplified and scaled

up, creating a contemporary feel.

Each piece is finished with hand carved bone handles.

Niki travels to India to develop all our products and works closely with traditional craftspeople to develop our collection.

Whilst on these trips she takes the opportunity to select some special vintage items to compliment our range.

Choose from a selection of vintage lassi cups. The patina of each carries its own story. Traditionally used to drink from but

now they are ideal as decorative vases.

Our vintage Kantha quilts are hand selected by Niki. They are made from vintage saris, pieced together with running stitch.

They are all one of a kind, which adds to their unique charm.

Papier-mâché is a delicate decorative art. The art of Papier-mâché was born in Persia and introduced to India in the 15th and 16th Century when great

mogul emperors ruled.

The influence of this Persian art was favoured greatly by them and was influenced by their Uzbekistani and Central Asian routes.

Passed down from generation to generation, Kashmiri craftsmen have tried to maintain the culture of Papier-mâché and to this day it is still being made by

hand in the same way.
