This distinctive process uses high voltage pulse power discharges to cause fragmentation.
Along with the unmatched quality of liberation, this process requires no mechanical contact
with the sample, therefore reducing contamination, minimizing fines and undersize, and
providing the cleanest possible preparation for your valuable sample.
SELFRAG is more than just sample preparation – it opens new possibilities to your research.
In space and earth science, the progress of analytical equipment in the last decades has
driven new research possibilities. Sample preparation techniques however, have changed
little since the last century. This dilemma limits the advances in analytical equipment.

II. SELFRAG Lab – Options
SELFRAG AG offers the following options for working with the Lab. These are mainly to carry and handle process vessels for ease of assembling, loading and decanting. These are the perfect additions for your sample preparation lab, making working with the SELFRAG Lab even more comfortable. Please contact us if you are interested and need more information to the options. For your task, we suggest at least a vessel holder (O-2) as a simplified vessel station above your laboratory sink. For a more advanced solution, our complete sink station (0-1) is the perfect accessory, incorporating a handling station, water supply and drainage with a sediment trap: A useful tool for every mineral preparation lab.

The sample is treated in the process vessel, and this is what you will mostly work with. In the fragmentation zone, the vessel is exposed to high impact forces and is considered a wear part. A general rule of thumb is: the lower the used voltage the longer the material lasts.
The vessel consists of a metal shell with an open or a closed bottom and a PE liner. This makes the configuration of the process zone highly flexible for your task, you can either process in a closed or open setup. Both options are included in the starter kit.

Electrodes are used to focus the HV discharge into your material (sample). SELFRAG offers electrodes and counter-electrodes in different materials. The life time of electrodes strongly depends on the usage. The lower the voltage used, the longer the electrodes’ life. Let us know which material suits you most. If you need something different, we are happy to help you find a solution.

The SELFRAG Lab Micro-Process-Vessel is designed for the selective fragmentation of small quantities (1 - 2 g) of solids in a cross-contamination-free closed setup. It is part of the highly flexible setup of the system to process samples with any task. The micro-vessels are available in different materials.
