RECOMMENDED SAFETY MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE FOR LP GAS FUELED
FORKLIFT TRUCKS
WARNING: All fuels used in internal combustion engines are flammable and should be treated with caution. All cigarette smoking and
open flames should be prohibited. Sparks should be avoided. The fuel cylinder should be mounted so that it does not extend
outside the truck and should also be properly positioned by using the locating pin or key way.
The fuel valve should be turned off when the machine is not in service. Cast fittings should not be used in the LP-GAS system. Use only Underwriters Laboratories or Factory Mutual listed LP-GAS hose assemblies where pressure fuel lines are required. All pipe threaded fittings should be installed using an approved sealing compound. Fuel lines should be supported by clamps to minimize chafing and wear.
The LP-GAS solenoid valve should be wired to an automatic shut off switch (oil pressure or vacuum) to prevent leakage of gas in the event the ignition is on without the engine running.
Check the propane solenoid or vacuum shutoff valve for leakage as follows:
1. Turn fuel cylinder valve off, start and run engine until it stops. 2. Install a 0 to 30 PSI pressure gauge per instruction A or B.
A. For propane systems with a single unit consisting of primary and secondary regulators, install at the primary test port. B. For propane systems consisting of two separate regulators, install between the primary and secondary stages.
3. Turn cylinder fuel valve on. The pressure gauge should maintain a zero reading. If it does not, the solenoid valve or vacuum shutoff valve must be repaired or replaced.
An odor is added to LP-GAS to help detect leaks. If the gas odor is detected the fuel cylinder supply valve and engine should be turned off. Remove all sources of ignition, and ventilate the area. Make all of the necessary repairs before you turn the fuel supply on.
The complete LP-GAS system should be inspected periodically. Check all hoses for wear, connections for leaks and all parts for damage.
NOTE: Fuel hoses have a limited life expectancy. They should be checked for cracking and drying due to age. Hoses with visible
signs of age should be replaced. Use only Underwriters Laboratories or Factory Mutual listed LP-GAS parts for replacements.
NOTE: The above information is provided as a guide. Consult the National Fire Protection Association pamphlet 58 for the safe storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gases. Governmental safety regulations in your locality could vary. Check with the authority having jurisdiction to be sure that you meet all of their requirements. UNIVERSAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS IMPCO
EQUIPMENT 1. Drain Gasoline Tank.
2. Run Engine Until it Stops.
3. Disconnect Battery Leads.
4. IF POSSIBLE - the gasoline tank should be removed. If it is not removed it should be filled with non-combustible
material that will not freeze if left out-of-doors. 5. Drain Radiator.
6. REMOVE THE FOLLOWING:
a) Fuel lines
b) Gasoline carburetor
c) Fuel pump
d) Pipe plug from the intake manifold
e) Choke cable assembly.
7. INSTALL THE FOLLOWING:
a) Fuel pump cover and gasket
b) Decal over Gasoline gauge
c) Plug gasoline tank inlet and outlet opening - if gasoline tank is not removed
d) Vaporizer solenoid assembly - as close to carburetor assembly as possible. Carburetor outlet fitting should
face down if possible.
e) Brass fittings provided for the thermostat housing and water pump - Face fittings towards vaporizer
assembly.
f) Vacuum switch with fittings provided in the intake manifold.
g) Wire Vacuum switch to ignition switch side of coil.
h) Propane carburetor.
i) Water lines from water fitting closest to propane solenoid to thermostat housing;from remaining fitting to
water pump. - Clamp or nylon strap where necessary. If regulator is mounted so that one water fitting is
higher than the other - the hose hook-up will be as follows: Thermostat housing to lower fitting and
water pump to upper fitting.
j) Carburetor hose from vaporizer to carburetor.
k) Bulkhead fitting relief valve assembly - Relief valve should be away from driver, towards rear of truck.
l) Auxiliary fuel line from the propane solenoid to the bottom of bulkhead assembly. Clamp where necessary -
NO closer than 4" from exhaust manifold and all electrical wires.
m) Main fuel line from the top of the bulkhead assembly to the fuel cylinder.
n) Cylinder brackets - Cylinder must NOT extend bast the counter weights.
o) Attach battery cables and fill radiator.
p) With fuel cylinder valve turned on - energize the propane solenoid and check the system for leaks - using
a soap solution. Most liquid detergents mixed with water will do.
8. Run and adjust per adjustment instructions.

The Model 100 Series is a single diaphragm air-gas valve carburetor/mixer. It offers a 90-degree air inlet to provide low overhead clearance, and is available with several air horn and throttle body options. This unit is available for propane, natural gas and digester gas applications. It has been successfully used for other hydrocarbon-based vapor fuels as low as 500 BTU. The Model 100 is also available for Feedback applications with the 'FB' designation.
The 100 mixer provides a convenient 1/8" NPT balance port and two separate air valve vacuum ports. Additional low speed idle mixture control can be obtained to lean air-fuel mixtures through the use of optional shims.

MODEL 110 SERIES STANDARD CARBURETOR
FOR NATURAL GAS, LP-GAS, ONE & TWO CYLINDER ENGINES
The 110 Series carburetor/mixer is designed primarily for one and two cylinder engines where severe intake manifold pressure pulsations are present. However, its use is not limited to these applications. Improved mixture control and air-gas valve durability can also benefit other applications in intake systems where pressure pulsations could adversely affect a standard 100/125 Series assembly.
The IMPCO Model 110 can be used with methane and propane based fuels. All mixers and complete carburetors use a standard air-gas metering valve that provides adequate fuel mixture range with the appropriate positive (natural gas) or negative (propane) vaporizer/regulator. It is possible to use other air-gas metering valves and body assemblies from the 100/125 series retaining the original spacer. Please note that the diaphragm is different from the standard 100/125 Series and may have to be ordered as a separate component part.

The Model 125 carburetor is a single-diaphragm air valve carburetor/mixer. It offers a downdraft air inlet that can be used for remote air filtration or open-element type air filters. This unit is available for propane, natural gas and digester gas applications. It has been successfully used for other hydrocarbon-based vapor fuels as low as 500 BTU.
The Model 125 is also avilable for feedback applications with the 'FB' designation. These FB mixers are available in tamper resistant configuration, indicated by the suffix "-TR" on the part number. Two separate air valve vacuum supplies are available with this mixer. Additional low speed mixture control can be obtained to lean air-fuel mixtures with optional shims. Check the Optional Equipment section for more information. All 125DG series mixers reduce airflow by 30%.

The Model 125M-10 is a vacuum lift mixer designed to reduce inlet restrictions in dual fuel installations. In some applications, inlet restrictions cannot be tolerated with a conventional gasoline carburetor as they will cause it to run rich.
The 125M-10 provides an electrically-operated solenoid that directs air valve vacuum to the top diaphragm chamber when gasoline operation is desired. This provides full air valve lift reducing air inlet restriction to a minimum. The 125M-10 is available with standard type air-gas metering valves and feedback control systems. It is possible to use other 100/125 Series air valves with some modification using the P3-10 BB shot plugs.

The Model 200 Series is a single diaphragm air-valve carburetor/mixer. It offers a 90-degree air inlet to provide low overhead clearance, and is available with several air horn and throttle valve options. This unit is available for propane, natural gas and digester gas applications. It has been successfully used for other hydrocarbon-based vapor fuels as low as 500 BTU.
The Model 200 is also available for Feedback applications with the 'FB' designation. These FB mixers are also available in tamper resistant configuration, indicated by the suffix "-TR" on the part number. It is also possible to convert standard units to a tamper resistant configuration through the use of a retrofit kit (check the Optional Equipment section for more information. The 200 mixer provides a convenient 1/8" balance port at the air inlet, however does not include air valve vacuum ports. These ports can be added with modification to the main body or adapter casting if required. Additional low speed idle mixture control can be obtained to lean air-fuel mixtures through the use of optional shims. All DG series mixers reduce air flow 30%.

The Model 225M-10 is a vacuum lift mixer designed to
reduce inlet restrictions in dual fuel installations. Inlet
restrictions cannot be tolerated with a conventional
gasoline carburetor as they will cause it to run rich
similar to the action of a choke system.
The 225M-10 provides an electrically-operated
solenoid that directs air valve vacuum to the top
diaphragm chamber when gasoline operation is desired.
This provides full air valve lift reducing air inlet restriction
to a minimum. This unit has also been used to reduce
inlet restrictions on fuel injected engines as well where
physical limitations of space have resulted in a mixer
selection slightly smaller than recommended, or
maximum volumetric efficiency is desired.
The 225M-10 is available with standard type air-gas
metering valves and feedback control systems. It is
possible to use other 200/225 Series air valves with
some modification using the P3-10 BB shot plugs.

The Model PJ Series is a positive pressure two-stage regulator. It is designed for positive pressure CNG fuel systems where liquid vaporization and engine coolant heating is not required. These regulators are able to provide positive flow in applications up to 59.7 kW (80 hp). PJ regulators are available in several fixed pressures. Adjustable pressure units are also available in varying pressure ranges. Fixed regulators can be converted in the field to adjustable with the AC1-74 kit. Additionally, adjustable units can be converted to fixed pressure by using the H3-3 spring cover. Fixed pressure regulators are preferred in applications that are not subject to fuel quality variations or to deter unauthorized tampering. There is a primary pressure test port and "left" or "right" fuel outlets. Optional diaphragms are available in silicone material.

The IMPCO Model E & PE series are two-stage regulators/converters. It is engine coolant heated to assist liquid fuel vaporization. Diagnostic test ports are standard for both the primary and secondary pressure chambers, and a choice of diaphragm materials is available. E & PE series regulator/converters are renewable with the appropriate repair kits. The Model E series provides a negative outlet pressure, with two pressures available. The only difference between the standard and the optional unit is the secondary outlet spring. The standard model EB utilizes a blue spring, while the optional EO model uses an orange spring. These optional pressures can be used to fine tune special engine applications. The orange spring makes a good choice for cold weather start-ups due to the lower negative "give-up," however, it will also provide for richer fuel mixtures relative to the standard blue spring. A manual primer is standard on the Model E. The Model PE series provides a positive outlet pressure. It is offered for special applications, applications that require positive pressure and/or the ability to vaporize liquid fuel, or for situations where regulatory code or specifications require a positive feed system. Although the standard IMPCO natural gas systems use positive pressure, a heated
regulator/converter is not required for CNG, and it is recommended that the Model PEV be used for these systems. Additional mixture stability is possible with the PE, though, as a result of a more consistent fuel temperature gained through the use of the heated labyrinth. While the PE is supplied as a fixed outlet pressure regulator, it can be converted to an adjustable unit with the AC1-74 retrofit kit.

The IMPCO Model EV & PEV Series are two-stage regulators/converters. They are intended for vapor withdrawal systems. Heating with engine coolant is not required. Diagnostic test ports are standard for both the primary and secondary pressure chambers, and a choice of diaphragm materials is available. EV & PEV Series regulator/converters are renewable with the appropriate repair kits.
The EV Series regulator is used primarily on propane fuel systems that require a negative pressure but do not require fuel vaporization. The EV is only available with the standard "B" (blue) spring. It is possible, however, to convert the unit to use with the optional "O" (orange) spring.
The PEV Series regulator is designed for positive-type CNG fuel systems where liquid vaporization is not required. Specific PEV regulators are available in several fixed pressure. Adjustable pressure units are also available. Fixed regulators can be converted in the field to adjustable with the AC1-74 kit. The IMPCO Model L is a two-stage regulator/converter. These units are coolant heated and are able to provide liquid vaporization to supply up to 150 kW (200 hp) in industrial engine applications. The L series regulator provides a negative outlet pressure of -0.37 kPa (-1.5 w.c.). No optional pressure are available. The Model L offers economical performance with full features; rear fuel inlet and primary and secondary diagnostic test ports. Optional silicone diaphragm materials are also available. Regulatory approvals include UL, ULC, E4 Regulation Number 67.

The HPR-3600 is a single stage high pressure regulator designed for high pressure CNG (compressed natural gas) systems. This regulator is engine coolant heated to prevent freezing, and has dual outlet ports for universal installation flexibility. The HPR is rated up to 24 800 kPa (3600 psi) inlet and provides a regulated outlet pressure of 1 040 ± 140 kPa (150 ± 20 psi), which makes it compatible with the IMPCO "P" (positive) type regulators. It is also supplied with an external pressure relief valve, which is calibrated to open if outlet pressure exceeds 2760 kPa (400 psi). Regulatory approvals include UL and AGA/CGA. TUV certification is available with the 989B model only.

Here's an aluminum universal type LP-Gas cylinder available in a size for every fork lift truck application. This cylinder works in either the vertical or horizontal position (for vapor or liquid service or both). Choice of two spud configurations to fit every normal LP-Gas hookup. Aluminum cylinders eliminate fork lift downtime. They stay clean with no flaking inside to clog liner and contaminate fuel. Cylinder is up to 40% lighter and easier to handle. Safe, too. Step 1. Cut hose square to length required with fine-tooth hacksaw or cutoff wheel. Put socket in vise and screw hose counter-clockwise into socket until hose bottoms. Back off 1/4 turn. Step 2. Oil nipple threads, assembly tool into mandrel, and inside of hose liberally. Step 3. MALE ENDS: Push assembly tool into nipple. Oil. Screw nipple clockwise into socket and hose. Tighten nipple until snug against socket. Step 4. SWIVEL ENDS: Tighten nipple and nut on assembly tool. Oil. Screw nipple clockwise into socket and hose. Leave 1/32" to 1/16" clearance between nut and socket so nut will swivel.

WARNING! LPG is a very hazardous liquid or gas, and should be handled with maximum care to prevent leakage. Since the gas is heavier than air, it may flow along the ground if it escapes and cause an explosion or fire. NO leakage should ever be tolerated! Dating Assemblies: All Aeroquip LPG Hose is dated at the time of manufacture. However,hose is not deteriorated by time if it is properly stored. The important date for hose is the date it goes into actual service conducting Liquified Petrolium Gas. All LPG Hose Assemblies should be dated when installed in actual service. Proof Testing: All LPG Hose Assemblies should be proof tested at 700 psi before being put in service. Inspection: Every length of hose should be inspected periodically depending upon service. If in daily use, inspection should be made evry three months. If in intermittent use, inspection at six month intervals should be sufficient. The inspection should be visual and a proof test should also be applied. If the hose is kinked or the cover is worn exposing reinforcement, it should be removed from service immediately! Service Life: All assemblies in continuous service for over a year should be taken out of service and burned. A failure of an LPG hose usually causes a great deal of damage, therefore,no possibility of failure can be tolerated. Hose should be removed from service before any danger of failure can occur.
To Assemble
Step 1. Cut hose to required length with a sharp knife. Oil inside of hose and outside of nipple liberally. Step 2. Push hose on fitting until hose end bottoms underneath protective cap as shown. For quantity production use an Aeroquip SOCKET LESS fitting assembly machine.
To Disassemble
Step 3. Slit hose lengthwise from protective cap to end of nipple. Step 4. Bend hose, then snap hose off with a quick tug.

HOSE INSTALLATIONS
Do not use excessive lengths of hose. Bends below the design bend radii weaken the hose by distorting the wire braid
The movement shown in the incorrect side view exerts torsion on the end fittings.
Obtain direct routing of the hose
through the use of 90° and 135° Elbow fitting. Improve performance by using less hose and greater bend radius.
Sharp bends can be avoided by using elbow fittings instead of straights. Avoid the use of bends in hose too close to the fittings.
Do not fit hose assembly in twisted condition. This puts tension on the hose and reduces the working like of the assembly. Provide slack or bend in the hose to allow for changes in length that will occur when pressure is applied

The IMPCO BEAM 120A regulator can be used with any LPG carburetor for applications up to 111.9 kW (150 hp). The 120A is a two-stage regulator and features a built-in idle screw. There is also an internal vacuum lockoff which automatically shuts off fuel when the engine stops.

MODEL SD
The Model SD fuel controller is the most popular fuel controller used on small engines today. This unit has been in production for over 15 years. The molded silicone rubber diaphragm and the square seating plunger help contribute to its sensitivity and long trouble free service.
MODEL 083 The Model 083 regulator-vaporizer is used in place of the standard primary regulator in the fuel system when liquid withdrawal of the fuel from the tank is desired. These units are significantly more efficient and less bulky than the previously supplied model.
MODEL KN
The Model KN is designed for sensitivity and simple operation. It is used with low pressure vaporized gaseous fuels where dependable automatic starting is a requirement. The KN is an excellent choice for use on irrigation pumping, stand-by power generations and oil field engines.

Pressure switch is factory set at 40 PSI. When fuel pressure drops below 40 PSI, light / buzzer will be energized and remain on until the cylinder is changed or the ignition is turned off.

INSTALLATION: Install temperature control in water return hose (suction side of converter). Be sure flow direction is correct. The direction of flow is clearly marked on thermostats. It should be mounted as close to the converter as possible.

A LITTLE WILL HARM, A LOT WILL KILL
How much is too much? The harmful effects of CO exposure depend on the concentration of the gas in the air, exposure time, and factors such as age, health, size and sex.
Many of us encounter CO regularly and never know it because it's invisible and odorless. That's why victims of CO poisoning often have no warning that they are in danger... until it's too late. Symptoms include headache, nausea, chronic fatigue, confusion and dizziness. Extreme exposure can even cause a coma or death.
HOW CARBON MONOXIDE AFFECTS US
Carbon monoxide is a product of incomplete (poor) combustion. It's a direct and cumulative poison. When combined with blood hemoglobin, CO replaces oxygen in the blood until it completely overcomes the body. Death from CO occurs suddenly. The victim inhaling the toxic concentration of the gas becomes helpless before realizing that danger exists.
HOW MUCH CARBON MONOXIDE IS PERMISSIBLE?
According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) (Ventilation Standard 62-89), a concentration of no more than 9 parts per million (ppm) (0.0009%), of CO is permissible ventilation air when averaged over 8 hours.
In addition, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has set an eight-hour work place maximum of 50 ppm. ANSI has established the maximum allowable concentration of CO (when measured on an air free basis) of 400 PPM, for vented gas appliances.

OSHA Requirement
The CO level shall NOT EXCEED 50 PPM measured over an 8 hour period in the work environment. How does parts per million (PPM) relate to percentage numbers?
One million parts per million equals one hundred percent of the engines exhaust gases.
10% CO EOUALS 100,000 PPM 1% CO EOUALS 10,000 PPM .1% CO EOUALS 1,000 PPM .01% CO EOUALS 100 PPM
For each one hundredth of one percent you will have 100 PPM Example: .01% X 1000000 PPM CO = 100 PPM CO. With adequate ventilation and following the adjustment instructions on page 29 , you should be able to keep the carbon monoxide level below the OSHA requirement.

TERMS: Net 30 Days on All invoices. Minimum Order $25.00. AFS Reserves the right to charge 1.5% interest per month on all past due amounts.

WARRANTY
Alternative Fuel Systems Inc. warrants its products against defects in material and workmanship for a period of ninety days. Defective merchandise will be replaced without charge but labor charges incurred in the removal, disassembly or reinstallation of such products will not be allowed. No merchandise can be returned without written permission from the factory. Transportation charges must be prepaid. The factory shall be the sole judge of defects in products returned. A twenty five percent handling charge will be made for all merchandise returned that is not defective. All prices are subject to change without notice. We reserve the right to limit quantities and to make partial shipments unless specifically instructed otherwise. The obligation of the company under this warranty is limited to replacing any complete units or parts thereof which by our examination we judge to be defective.
NOTE: FAILURES CAUSED BY DIRT, POOR QUALITY FUEL, ABUSE, NORMAL WEAR, AND DISASSEMBLY ARE NOT COVERED BY OUR WARRANTY!
In the event of suspected defective material,
• Do not attempt to disassemble or repair. Doing so will void warranty
• Contact Alternative Fuel Systems, Inc. for a return authorization number.
• Mark number on outside of carton and return at your expense
• When AFS receives the item(s), we will evaluate, and determine cause of defect if the material is
not functional
• AFS will replace material or issue credit if we determine the item has failed due to defect.
• If the material is found to be functional, or has failed due to contamination, normal wear, abuse, or
disassembly, no replacement or credit will be issued.
• Denied warranty items will be held at our facility for 30 days. Contact AFS if you would like this
material returned at your expense.
