Do you know what Seasons of Service is?
Seasons of Service is the Southwest District’s way to promote the Key Club International
preferred charities or major emphasis projects. Each month corresponds with 1 of the 4 projects
and clubs are encouraged to conduct a service projects which benefits that month’s partner.
Aside from the 4 major emphasis projects, Beads of Courage which is the Governor’s project is
promoted all year round.
Seasons of Service officially starts in August and Children’s Miracle Network is the selected
project. An easy way to support CMN is to attend Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen on Thursday
August 14th, 2014 where $1 or more of your purchase will be donated to CMN.
*Click the links under the pictures to find out more information about that project.*
Do you know what the KCI preferred charities are?

School will be resuming before we know it, therefore now is the time to
start planning your service year. The following are some suggestions to
make your upcoming term the best possible year as well as improve your
club for the better. Set goals: It is important for each of your officers to express their goals for the year
as well as agree upon a centralized goal for the whole board. This will help unite your
board and serve as a foundation for the year.
Create a service calendar: Plan out each month making sure to include meetings,
socials, events, and anything else your club participates in. Make this available to
your members and continue to update it as the year goes on.
Create a budget: If your board creates a budget for the year there are pre-established
fundraising goals as well as an outlined plan of your spending. A budget does not
mean your club can’t go against it, it is just a plan for the club’s spending’s.
Service Project Idea One of the most useful items for schools and kids in need are school supplies. This is
an easy service project but one that will have a huge impact. Ask your community
and club members to donate items such as pens, pencils, scissors, glue sticks, folders,
lined paper, and anything else school related.
Ice cream social The best way to attract High School Students is food! Use this to your advantage and
plan a social for your first meeting. For example you could hold an Ice cream social
and serve Ice Cream Sandwiches, a great treat and a fun filled meeting! Make sure to
advertise in advance so everyone knows when and where!
Spreading the Word of Key Club Check to see if your club can set up a booth at your school’s registration. This is a
good time and place to tell people about Key Club and convince them to join. Have
fliers printed with info about your club and Key Club International. Make sure to take
emails and phone numbers from everyone that comes by so you can send out first
meeting reminders.

District Education and Leadership Convention (DELC)
District Convention is held every year, the convention allows Key
Club members from the Spicy Southwest District to come together
and participate in dances, in workshops, to make lasting friendships,
and to lastly vote on the new district board. The most recent
Convention was held in Tucson, Arizona March 28th-30th, 2014 and
theme was Cirque Du Southwest.
*Stay tuned for info pertaining to next year’s Convention*
Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF)

need funding? The Youth Opportunities Fund is a grant given to
clubs struggling to fund a project. If you have a project and would
like to apply for grant money follow the link below.

The Golden Circle
When informing others about Key
Club use the Golden Circle. Starting
with the why is important because it
empaszies why Key Club does what
we do!
Start by working inward out.
Began with the Why: Key Club allows
students to make a difference one
home, school, and community at a
time. All through service.
Then transitition to the how: Key Club
participates in service projects, builds
character and develops leadership.
End with the what: Key Club is an
International Organization
characterized as a family of 260,000
plus members. We also belong to the
even bigger K-Family of over 600,000
members worldwide.
Key Clubbers, summer is fast approaching, but that
doesn’t mean our service should temporarily come to halt.
Here are some ideas for Summer Service Projects!
─ Hold a car wash to benefit one of the KCI partners
or a local organization
─ Volunteer at your local animal shelter
─ Plan a park clean up
I am in the process of planning a Catalina Division Service Project with
Beads of Courage (The Governors Porject). The official date and location
will be released in my next newsletter.
“The Program is a resilience-based intervention designed to support and
strengthen children and families coping with serious illness. Through the
program children tell their story using colorful beads as meaningful
symbols of courage that commemorate milestones they have achieved
along their unique treatment path.”
