CharactersIn my short film I have two characters, Lucy Laurence and Alex – a male and female. I therefore require two actors and need to cast two individuals to play Lucy and Alex.

Stef KolevaI have decided to cast Stef Koleva as she is a tall female. I decided to cast someone tall as it gives me the opportunity to challenge convention, typically in Science Fiction films the lead is portrayed by a male character. By having a female as the protagonist will also enable me to possibly entice a female audience as it allows them to ‘identify’ – under the Uses and Gratifications theory.

George FeastI have decided to use George Fest as my antagonist, he is a small male, again giving me the opportunity to challenge convention by making the female in the narrative the taller, allowing the audience to believe that she is both physically and morally above my antagonist (George Feast). It also enables me to confine to the convention of a plot twist at the end of a short film, as it is the smaller antagonist who ‘wins’.
