Delivery of Adelaide’s First Electric Trains:
● Under a supply and maintenance
contract with Bombardier Transportation
Australia, 22 three car units will be
delivered. The A-City will seat around
240 passengers with standing room for
another 300.
● The wide-body train will provide more
room for passengers and a host of other
features, including:
– safety CCTV covering the rear,
front and interior
– high capacity air-conditioning to
suit Adelaide's winter and summer
– disability access compliance with
wheelchair spaces and access
ramps
– permanently coupled three car
sets, with walk-through access
between railcars
– double leaf saloon doors for quick
entry and exit
– passenger emergency intercoms
at each doorway; and
– maximum speed of 110kph.
Automated Train Protection System
Works in progress:
● Trains on the interstate line currently give way to passenger trains,
causing significant delays to both freight trains and road traffic
● The upgrade consists of a 615m underpass for the electrified Seaford
line to go beneath the Belair line and ARTC freight line, with a 12m wide
bridge deck constructed across 65m of the underpass
● A minor realignment of the ARTC freight line and Belair passenger line
has been undertaken
● The project has provided a 1 in 100 year flood capacity for Brown Hill
Creek channel and significant stormwater and sewer improvements
● Three pedestrian crossings are being upgraded to activated crossings,
and the provision of a 3m shared use path has been incorporated
● Community input into the landscaping and amenity of the area has
resulted in significant trees being designed around, and a community
wildlife (nesting box) project has been instigated by the project team

concept – overpass at Wayville Station
Wayville railway station – design concept
Canterbury Terrace, Clarence Park
New ‘Wayville’ station at Adelaide Showgrounds
• provides a superior entrance statement to the Wayville precinct
with a stronger sense of arrival to the showgrounds entrance
• far more visible station from Anzac Highway and Greenhill Road
• better linked into supportive land uses, with a potential to serve
260 dwellings and a larger and more diverse employment base
• makes better use of adjacent land providing an opportunity to
increase activity with a ‘Kiss and Ride’, bus layover area and
supporting shops
• replaces current station land locked to the south, east and west
• site doesn’t generate large amounts of vehicle traffic facilitating a
safe pedestrian environment, yet provides direct access and
parking opportunities
Shared use
path and
Keswick bridge
underpass
• running along eastern edge of corridor
• connects to bikeway and businesses
• supports more cycling and walking including good lighting and passive surveillance
Electrify Gawler line to Dry Creek
● Construction of a second Railway
Substation to provide sufficient power to
extend the electrified network along the
Gawler line.
● Extending the Electrification of the rail
corridor towards Gawler, as far as Dry
Creek (approximately a further 10 kms),
including electrification of the new Rail
Car Depot at Dry Creek.
● Extending the installation of a new
signalling and communications system
along the Gawler line as far as Dry
Creek. This comprises installation of
modern and efficient Fibre Optic
technology along with a new Automatic
Train Protection System.
Electrify the Gawler line to Dry
Creek
