The Challenge: Each semester, students are paired off with local business owners looking to grow their online presence. These companies, typically small, local businesses, volunteer for to be included in the program.

Students are then given a $250 AdWords budget, courtesy of Google, to spend over the course of the semester.

The students then create a PPC strate-gy from the ground-up, using SEM-rush’s Advertising Research Reports to identify competitors, followed by the Ads Copy Report to compare existing PPC marketing strategies.

Chun, well versed in troubleshooting and managing digital marketing campaigns then visits the class several times over the course of the semester to monitor the student’s marketing strategies and offer advice when results are flagging. The Remedy:Chun also uses SEMrush’s Ads Copy and Advertising Research Reports to create a strategic template of sorts to help check and score the student’s Organic research.

Having used other tools like Similar-web, BrightEdge and Conductor, Chun said he was impressed by SEMrush’s

intuitive Dashboard as well as the reports it was able to create for him that made monitoring the students’ progress a snap!

The Payoff:At the end of the semester , the students present the results of their AdWords campaigns to their instructors , as wel l as the business owners who took part in the program.

Impressed with the success of the program, Chun says that other CSU, Fullerton faculty members have expressed an interest in fitting the tool into their market-ing/business curriculums.
