Air-O-Film® Stretch - the purrfect solution for wrapping pet foods

Pet Food ManufactureThe process of manufacturing pet food is not dissimilar to that of conventional processed foodstuffs. Very often the food is cooked, packed into heated containers and then loaded onto pallets ready for shipping.

This is exactly how one of our customers, a global manufacturer of pet food, operate. However, they soon discovered that using regular stretch film caused them big problems.

Condensation IssuesOnce it was applied to the pallet the latent heat within the cooked food had nowhere to escape. Consequently there was a large build up of condensation, causing damage to both the primary and secondary packaging. This issue was particularly problematic during the colder times of the year.

Not only did this spoil the appearance of the product, in extreme cases it actually led to pallets becoming destabilised and entire truck loads being refused by the customer.

Stretch 150The Solution:

Air-O-Film® Stretch 150 immediately solved the problem. The level of aeration that it provides ensured that the condensation was allowed to disperse.

Furthermore, by reducing the return rate to virtually zero, Air-O-Film® Stretch became a much more cost effective solution for the business.

Air-O-Film® Stretch was also fully compatible with their existing machinery and so making the switch from their existing film couldn’t have been easier.

Air-O-Film Stretch and Air-O-Stretch are Megaplast brands. In an effort to improve our products, our company reserves the right to modify any of the technical specifications included here without giving notice to the holder of this brochure. www.megaplast.gr

Below: Condensation was a real issue. As well as the financial penalties that resulted from spoiled product, the health and safety implications caused by the moisture damage were extremely dangerous.

Agricultural FeedsOne of our customers manufactures a compound which is fed to livestock in order to improve their milk production and fertility. Due to the nature of the product, it needs to be heated during manufacture which means that when the goods reach the end of the production line they are typically 3-4 degrees above the ambient temperature.

The Dangers of CondensationUsing a solid stretch film, the loads would invariably ‘sweat’ and, with nowhere else for the moisture to escape, it would be absorbed by the internal packaging. If this moisture were to reach the powdery product it would become lumpy, not dissolve properly and would therefore not be fit for feeding to the livestock.

Health and Safety IssuesHowever, this moisture had other, more dangerous effects. The wet bags would often split once the pallets were stacked to fill the full height of a container. In the best cases this meant that the loads were unsightly and difficult to handle. In the worst cases, however, the loads were fundamentally insecure and have been known to topple over. Maxx

®The Solution:

Air-O-Film® Maxx immediately solved our customer’s problem. The level of aeration that it provides ensured that the condensation was allowed to disperse. Furthermore, with the return rate now at virtually zero, Air-O-Film® Maxx is a much more cost effective solution for their business.

Air-O-Film® Maxx was also complimented the incumbent machinery and so making the switch from their existing film couldn’t have been easier.
