The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

(IIIT-H) is an autonomous university founded in 1998. It was set up as

a not-for-profit public private partnership (N-PPP) and is the first IIIT

to be set up (under this model) in India. The Government of Andhra

Pradesh lent support to the institute by grant of land and buildings. A

Governing Council consisting of eminent people from academia,

industry and government presides over the governance of the

institution.

The institute evolved strong research programs in a host of areas, with

computation or IT providing the connecting thread, and with an

emphasis on the development of technology and applications, which can

be transferred for use to industry and society. This required carrying

out basic research that can be used to solve real life problems. As a

result, a synergistic relationship has come to exist at the Institute

between basic and applied research.

IIIT-H is organized as research centers and labs, instead of the

conventional departments, to facilitate inter-disciplinary research and

a seamless flow of knowledge within the Institute.

The Institute combines pioneering research with top class education.

An innovative curriculum allows the student flexibility in selecting

courses and projects. Students get to participate in ongoing research

and technology development - an opportunity unprecedented in India.

In sum, the Institute offers students a unique environment that

promotes culture, sports, societal contributions, art, self-governance

and human values. It is also at the forefront of research that has the

potential to make a major social impact.

About CASE

The program started in the year 2002 with 5students and the current intake is 25.Computer Aided Structural Engineering (CASE) is an innovative program, focused on the combination of recent advances made in the field of structural engineering and computer science. This combination allows structural engineer the flexibility and freedom for a better understanding of structural behavior with material and geometric nonlinearity and loading uncertainties. The course provides an excellent grounding in the fundamentals of structural engineering subjects. It also engages in a comprehensive study of computer science subjects such as programming, databases, graphics, visualization etc.

Students graduating from the structural engineering program earn a unique academic

degree M.tech in Computer Aided Structural Engineering.

Page 5: Case placement brochure

The objective of CASE program is to include recent advances in thedevelopment and use of computer methods for the solution of scientific andengineering problems related to structures. Course gives in-depth knowledgeof mathematical modeling and computational methods in the areas of non-linear, static and dynamic analysis of structures. It also embraces computer-

aided design including visualization and optimization methods.

SPATIAL INFORMATICS LAB Working towards enhancing the understanding of the concepts ingeomatics and geospatial technologies, which are then being appliedover different application areas, It is working towards becoming anodal point for the integration of the strengths and progress in the ITfields related to the spatio-temporal domains and build domainexpertise and applications in the various disciplines related to it,ranging from the natural to social sciences, with a focus on inter-disciplinary areas (related to resource use and management), bybuilding on the data generation, handling and monitoring capability toanalysis and modeling.

GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING LAB(EERC)With a major goal to carry out research on recent advances ingeotechnical engineering this Centre addresses a wide range ofproblems posed by the spatial variability and complex materialproperties of soils and rocks. The center carries out Risk assessmentassociated to geo hazards such as landslides and earthquakes. It alsoworks on Analytical methods as well numerical techniques.

EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING RESEARCH CENTREStriving towards excellence in research on Earthquake Engineering andits related areas, this facility aims to provide solutions for disastermanagement and Earthquake resistant structures. With a fundingapproximately around INR 350 lakhs in the past EERC has beenassociated with top organizations in India like MoEs, ISR-Gujarat,APRSHCL, NAIP-GoI-IIT-Delhi, MCR HRD-Virtual Labs, JICA and Nanded,Govt of Maharashtra.

CENTRE FOR BUILDING SCIENCESWith a prime focus on Safety, Comfort, energy efficiency, Affordabilityand healthy environment, Centre for building science combinesInformation technology with construction and maintenance ofbuildings by integrating IT in building science. The department focuseson combining traditional materials with advanced methods usingcomputer aided techniques for intelligent control, meeting stiff designtargets and ensuring excellent performance of the building over itsentire life cycle.

A whole different learning experienceBesides academic curriculum, The Institute offersstudents a unique environment that promotesculture, sports, societal contributions, art, self-governance, human values and is also at the forefrontof research that has the potential to make a majorsocial impact. As a result, a synergistic relationshiphas come to exist at the Institute between basic andapplied research.

Choice in curriculumCASE program offers diverse choices to its students inthe field of structural engineering and computerscience. The curriculum is designed to meet thecurrent requirements of the industry and theacademia. The main principle is aimed to preparestudents for life, not only for a living and develop thepersonality of the individual as a whole.

Computation and analysisSolid background in computational and numericalmethods, as well as relevant aspects of programmingand scripting languages. Graduates are introduced towide range of aspects of computation in engineeringas well as design and analysis softwares.

ProjectsContinuous internal evaluation through assignment andprojects throughout the semester span ensures andempowers students with strong fundamentals of structuralengineering as well develop analytical thinking skills thatprepares them for careers in the industry.

Strong academicsIn-depth knowledge of mathematical modeling andcomputational methods in the areas of non-linear, static anddynamic analysis of structures with a complete dedicatedresearch facility with expert guidance on wide range ofprojects.

Why recruit CASE graduates?

Computer aided engineering is one of the strongestgrowing fields within engineering and underpins designand analysis in all engineering disciplines. Virtualprototyping, based on the numerical analysis ofstructures, has become absolutely central to the industrialdesign and analysis process.
