I read this on Facebook - “I’m ready to quit complaining about the rain and start complaining about the heat”.
Amen!! Can we please have a little sunshine and warm temperatures?
The May calendar is wide open and ready for you to plan a club road trip or impromptu lunch run. So put on your “weather prognosticator” hat, pick a date and let’s get ‘em out of the garage!
After one month of our new 6:00 pm General meeting start time, we have found one tiny little problem. The electronic door locks at EPUD do not allow the doors to be unlocked until exactly 6:00 pm. Then we spend the next 15 minutes setting up tables and chairs, so we made an executive decision to start the General Meetings at 6:15 pm for the remainder of our 3-month experiment.
Planning for “Corvettes in the Park”, August 11-12, has hit full stride. Once again, we want to stress the importance of the raffle baskets that our members build. Your raffle baskets are the # 1 moneymakers at “Corvettes in the Park” and fuel the donations we are able to make yearly to organizations helping local children, elderly and veterans. Please consider building a raffle basket again this year. Need ideas? Call Becky or Nancy.
Keep the tank full!

Tech Day April 22
Another low turnout, no doubt caused in part by this crummy Spring weather we are enduring this year! Regardless the number of Corvettes and people who showed up, we had a good time. Dennis & Chris had the coffee pot going and the donuts ready when we arrived at 9:00 am. We began the day with an oil & filter change and a brake, tire and undercarriage inspection on Erin & Erik’s 2000 Coupe. Vic & Shirley’s 2003 Convertible was next in line for an oil & filter change. Some serious hammering and bending were needed to straighten their front air-dam. Vic thinks he may have hit a squirrel or maybe a horse!! Whatever...they now have a relatively straight air-dam. Next up, Larry & Simone’s `07 Coupe also needed an air-dam alignment. Those pesky parking lot bumpers keep jumping in front of them! In the photo you can see Dennis & Larry working, Pete & Vic solving the world’s problems one donut at a time. Last Corvette on the lift was John’s 2003 Convertible for a clutch fluid change. Of course, it rained. And the wind blew. And it was cold. But now we’re ready when the weather FINALLY decides to turn nice.
Detail Clinic April 29
We saw a lot of interest in our first ever Detail Clinic held last Saturday. We covered the basics of wheel, tire and brake detailing before moving into paint correction, polishing and waxing. Gerry removed the left front wheel, painted the caliper and rotor “hat”, then did a thorough cleaning of the wheel and tire. We then demonstrated the need for claying the paint surface. Many people were amazed at the “baggie test”. Slide your hand into a simple sandwich baggie and rub that across the paint - you can feel every tiny imbedded
particle on your paint. After claying a portion of the hood and fender, we demonstrated how to polish with a random orbital buffer, using both a semi-aggressive compound and a finish polish. After cleaning with a pre-wax cleaner, we then applied a paint sealant. Paint sealant is a polymer product which provides a somewhat longer lasting protection than a true wax. We also talked about waiting 24 hours to allow the sealant to cure before adding wax to intensify the reflectivity. Thanks again to Jeff & Susan for allowing us to use their shop and for providing coffee, chips, dips, veggies and drinks. Add Larry’s muffins and Nancy’s deviled eggs, we were well-fed for our four hour experience. Next - interior and engine.
As you have probably read, we just passed the 100th Anniversary of the National Park System. Hopefully you have had a chance to visit some of the parks in your travels. Many of us have the Senior Pass (original cost was $10) but sometime this year (the date has not been announced but it will be before the end of 2017) the cost for that pass will rise to $80. One of our alert former members thought it a good idea that BOTH husband and wife have the Senior Pass. It may come in handy if traveling with family or friends without your spouse. And it’s only $10 if purchased before the price increase.
Thanks to donations by our members, Cascade Corvette Club was able to make a sizable donation of much-needed diapers to Bags of Love. May 23 will be a very busy day in the Garboden home! At 2:00 pm we will host the Board meeting, then at 3:00-ish we will convene the “Corvettes in the Park” meeting.
Please note: The date of the Mystery Rally Lunch has been changed to May 6. Originally scheduled for May 13, the day before Mother’s Day, we soon realized it was far more important to spend time with your family than with your Corvette! We will meet at McDonald’s on Gateway (Springfield - near Hop Valley & Chevron) at 8:45 am. Each car will receive an instruction sheet and will be sent out at one-minute intervals. First car out at 9:00 am sharp! At the final destination you will have a full menu to choose from, however, they do not allow split plates. After seeing their portion sizes, you might want to bring a small cooler to take home the leftovers! Corvettes optional depending on the weather. May 12 General Meeting: As part of our general business meeting on May 12, Larry Thomas is producing a video of the last IMSA race he attended in Laguna Seca. A good deal of the video will consist of the parade laps we drove around the track prior to the race itself. While speed is controlled by pace cars, it is still a thrill to be on the track in your Corvette. Due to the anticipated length of the meeting, the Board decided to make this a potluck. We would ask you to bring: A - F: Salad G - L: Main dish M - S: Side dish T - Z: Dessert Or….your favorite/specialty. Bring your own beverages, please. Club will have a supply of plates, plastic utensils, and napkins.

Congratulations to Bob & Kim Bailey on the purchase of their new 2017 Long Beach Red Grand Sport Coupe.
Please welcome our newest members, Christopher, MaDonna and Sean Lewis. They live in Springfield and recently bought a 2017 Admiral Blue Coupe.
One of our guests at the April 14 meeting was the Baker family who recently bought Marv & Jude Durham’s 2006 convertible. We hope they join and keep the `06 in the club. Vic Wolfe and Jim Tatum are working on the “Golf Tournament, Not A Golf Tournament 2017” and would like to hear feedback on dates. The dates they are considering are Aug. 23, 24, 30 or 31. This year we will move the “tournament” to Diamond Woods near Monroe. Now about that name……… How about Full Throttle Open? Or Keystone Cops in Golf Carts?
Happy Birthday!

GM Corvette Plant News
At the Michelin NCM Bash, GM Corvette Plant Manager Kai Spande made the official announcement that public tours of the plant would not be available for approximately 18 months. The last day for public tours is currently Friday, June 16, 2017. Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter further elaborated on the lack of availability, citing the time needed to tie the new paint shop into the assembly line, and eventually design a new tour route. While Buyers' Tours and Engine Build options are not available for the 2018 model year Corvettes, R8C Museum Delivery is still available, sans the plant tour portion of the pack-age which can be fulfilled once the tours reopen. Kai and Tadge also announced that the plant will be shut down August-October. For those wanting 2018 Corvettes by the end of July the deadline to order is June 12. Corvettes ordered after that date will be built once the plant re-opens in November.
Joe & Jan have suggested a group tour on June 17 to
Spirit Mountain Casino to attend the “Roll the Dice
Car Show”. They will be working on details and we will deter-mine a meeting place and
departure time to meet them in Albany where they will
take over.
