CFNY-FM - CASBY Awards

1 CFNY launched the annual U-Knows awards in 1981, to recognize

Canadian musicians. Following a listener contest in 1986, they were

renamed the CASBY Awards - an acronym for Canadian Artists

Selected By You. The event is held every summer, where awards are presented to Canadian musicians

who have won the most votes from listeners.

The Undertones - Casbah Rock

1 These gigs were the first performances for which the

Undertones were actually paid: performing at The Casbah earned the

The Casbah Coffee Club

1 The Casbah, as it became widely known, was planned as a members-only club for Best's sons Pete Best|Pete, his younger brother, Rory, and

their friends

that time

The Casbah Coffee Club - The Casbah

1 The Quarrymen played a series of seven Saturday night concerts in The Casbah for 15 shillings each, starting

on 29 August to October 1959, featuring Lennon, McCartney,

Harrison and Brown, but without a drummer, and only one microphone connected to the club's small Public

address|PA system

The Casbah Coffee Club - Heritage status

1 McCartney was quoted as saying, I think it’s a good idea to let people

know about The Casbah. They know about The Cavern Club|The Cavern,

they know about some of those things, but The Casbah was the place

where all that started. We helped paint it and stuff. We looked upon it

as our personal club.

Agadir - The Casbah or Agadir Oufella

1 The Casbah (Agadir Oufella, Agadir le haut, Agadir N'Ighir, or Agadir de la

colline) was, along with Founti by the sea, the oldest district of Agadir. An

authentic fortress with winding streets and lively, the Casbah was built in 1572 by Moulay Abdallah al-Ghalib. Above the front door; today, the original inscription in Arabic and in Dutch reads: Fear God

and honour the King.

Agadir - The Casbah or Agadir Oufella

1 Of this fortress there remains, after the earthquake of 29 February 1960,

a restored long high wall that surrounds land that is not buildable. The view, however, is exceptional

over the bay of Agadir and the ports. The old people of Agadir remember

the famous Moorish café of the Casbah and its panoramic view.
