Introduction

As part of disaster management, we conducted a survey in 3 tsunami rehabilitation settlements. Of these we are analyzing the homes constructed by CASA,a non-governmental organization.

The fisherman community of Alappat panchayath was shifted here.

Immediately after the occurrence of disaster temporary accommodation was arranged in temporary shelters and partly in schools.

SATISFACTION Even though the people of the settlement

were same as that of earlier, the settlers do not enjoy their new environment.

The change in settlement and the loss of home had affected them emotionally.

The kind of social interaction they had before were absent.

They are moderately satisfied within the settlement and enjoy a sense of security as the region is devoid of any risk of disasters.

Each of the plots are owned by the settlers but they don’t feel a sense of attachment to the place.

Comparing the availability of services and amenities, now they enjoy better facilities. Still some of the families are not satisfied with their lifestyle.

This is because they have no proper homely environment providing interactive spaces or green pockets.

And no maintenance or surveillance is carried out by the agency. All the repairs have to be done by themselves which they cannot afford.Damages like crack, peeling of plaster, dampness ,leak etc occurs.

Travelling expenses increased as the distance from the workplace has increased a lot. People complained about lack of street lights on roads by which they find difficulty in travelling at night.
