After many laps of cat-and-mouse, Miller found a way by, and he was able to hold off Lagoni for the win. A twelve-car !-Prepared battle was won by John Trefethen (E30 325i), followed closely by Billy Maher (E36 M3). The two locals used track knowledge and decades of race experi- ence to win in the competitive field. David Calvert -Jones led the group of 2002s and won E-Mod. The 2002s that usu- al! y race in vintage circles joined BMW CCA Club Racing for this unique event. Sunday's first race saw VJ Mirzayan start from the back and work his way through the pack in his newly-built B-Mod E46 M3- with an E39 M5 V8 engine-but teething problems with the car kept him out of Sat- urday's race. He was able to work his way up to second, finishing behind Miller, who again was able to find a way past Lagoni, who finished third. The final race of the day would be a huge battle for both the overall win and the hotly contested !-Prepared class. Mirzayan and Miller went at it all race long, with Mirza- yan coming out on top. The !-Prepared battle again saw Marc Ghafouri lead Vic Pizzino to the finish, while Finn, Warren, McNutt, Bell, and Saldana again won their classes. The 2002 battle this time was won by Kyle Blasman, who outlasted the rest of the vintage group.-Ralph Warren Carroll, Lewis win at Watkins Glen More than 40 Club racers descended on Watkins Glen in late September for a fixture on the calendar now known as the Stan Parker Memorial Club Race, after the late Club Racing steward and pioneering Gene- see Valley Chapter member. This year's win- ners came from north of the border: Peter Carroll ran away with Saturday's sprint in his C-Modified E36 M3, and Allan Lewis won Sunday's enduro in his C-Mod E46 M3, not the familiar E36 325is that he had used to sweep the Mosport races two weeks earlier. Forty-three cars started Saturday's late- afternoon sprint. An early spin brought a brief yellow, but the track went back to green after a single lap, as Carroll pulled away with Lewis in pursuit. Lewis spun in the Bus Stop turn on lap four, falling back to sixteenth- but from there he began a charge that brought him back to second on lap ten. He tried hard to catch Carroll-setting the fastest lap of the race along the way-but finished second overall and second in class. Next up, running alone much ofthe way, was D-Mod Asher Hyman in his E36 M3 LTW. Behind Hyman, one of the best battles of the race played out among Rob J ackowitz, Vern Anderson, and Kevin Ogrodnik, all in 88 R OUNDEL • D ECEMBE R 2010 I-PE36 M3s. The class win and fourth over- all went to Jackowitz. On Sunday morning, a qualifying race was held to determine starting positions for the enduro. The grid wa s set on lap times, not finishing positions, so some racers exited early. In any case, the race was shortened, as Michael Goulde (GTS3 E36 328is) had a scary crash; he emerged unscathed, but it will take a long winter to repair the car. While Carroll set the fastest lap, his car exited the session after a muffler shattered. He withdrew from the race, leaving Lewis, who was less than a tenth of a second off Carroll's pace, on the pole. Coming out of the Boot on lap one, C-M racer Bob Kelly made contact with the wall, bringing out a long full- course yellow. Anticipating the yellow, Dave Wollman immediately pitted his I-PE36 M3, looking for a golden pit stop. It appeared that he had one; he led the pack to the checker. But Club Racing rules say that a driver has to complete a lap before pitting, so after the race Wollman received a one-lap penalty. Allan Lewis took the overall and C-M wins, and Asher Hyman reprised Saturday's first-in -D-M, second-overall finish.
