CAREERS FAIR 2017ORIENTATION, CHALLENGES, REWARDS & OPPORTUNITIES

This event is taking place on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd March. The event is compulsory for all students in Years 9 & 11. 6th form students may attend some of the sessions.

The aim of the event is to give students a chance to meet delegates from a wide range of career backgrounds, and through this to discover some of the challenges, rewards & opportunities they will experience in the world of work through the experiences of these delegates.

This event is organised by Howard Westcott

Head of Careers at LES and also teaches Psychology and Business at A level. Howard has had a long career as a teacher in the UK and in the Middle East and Cyprus before coming to Spain in 2008. He is a qualified teacher , counsellor and Careers Officer, having also been Head of Careers in a Local Authority in the UK. In a previous life he has been an Economist and also teaches Economics at A level, and started life as a musician in the 60's !!

KEITH LITTLEWOOD

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Keith has worked in the Financial Services Industry for 30 years and worked for every type of Financial Company, Roya l London for insurance, Leeds Building Society and NatWest Bank plus a Corporate Pensions IFA. The last 5 years have been at Blacktower Independent Financial Adviser, servicing the expat community with their Financial Advice requirements.

MICHELLE HUGHES

Michelle’s background is in Public Relations. She worked as Head of Communications for Brace’s Bakery in the UK for over 10 years. When Michelle moved to Javea almost 8 years ago she was hoping to find freelance PR work but after working for VillaMia an opportunity came up to buy the Company which was over 5 years ago. The Agency has grown into one of the most popular in the area and M i c he l l e f e e l s t h a t h e r PR background helps as dealing with people, being organised, used to administration are vital skills when you run your own business. Michel le wi l l ta lk about the Property Business and being self employed in Spain.

Karen has been a dentist for 22 years having qualified from the Royal London Hospital Clinic, after 6 years in the UK , she has been a dentist in Spain for 16 years and owns a busy dental practice in Javea , The Clinica dental la plaza, which offers the full range of orthodontic treatments to the community.

MARKETING

GEMMA SAUNDERSGemma studied to work backstage in the Theatre doing set design and set building but when she finished college she found that as a Career this wasn´t for her and it just became a hobby. Her first job was in Customer Services at Toyota and this is when she first realized her strengths lie in dealing with people face to face. From this she ended up working for a mushroom factory !! where she went out and about to the bars and restaurants in the UK selling vegetables, this helped grow her confidence as the chefs were tough but she kept on knocking doors and this was where Gemma learnt how to sell. Her jobs have always involved her being out and about face to face with clients and now she concentrate more on Promotions and Marketing with her employers, Telitec Communications. Gemma feels there are 2 different sides of Marketing , one in the office and one working in the field .The one she prefers is working in the field as she is involved in arranging and attending events, radio work and, marketing her business through other businesses and generally talking to new people on a daily basis

Experiencia como arquitecta desde hace 15 años.. El trabajar en el espacio Pepe Cabrera me ha dado la oportunidad de aprender de las grandes marcas del diseño. Cuando estaba estudiando fue el mejor aprendizaje, la forma, la escala, la luz, lo que te trasmite cuando lo estás creando y luego cuando estás es el. The Centre has been in Javea since 2007. Dr Semler is UK trained and qualified and has worked for many years in both the UK and Spain
