HISTORY OF THE BARRANQUILLA´S CARNIVAL
• The Carnival of Barranquilla has its remote origins in the carnival that came to America from Spain
• IT has spirit of renewal and change similar to that animated these festivals in Europe.
• The first Carnival held in the city's history is lost in more than a century ago, when Barranquilla was a small town

• They always celebrate your naive, funny, festive and above all healthy, have allowed it to retain a tradition that goes back three centuries.
• The festivities were introduced to America by the Spanish and Portuguese. The traditional novena of La Candelaria, in Cartagena de Indias, framed to sumptuous dances in the eighteenth century a holiday granted to blacks brought from Africa muzzles. These parties are the main source of Barranquilla Carnival dances.

BARRANQUILLA´S CARNIVAL
• The Barranquilla´s carnival is the folk festival´s most important cultural carnival of Colombia and the second biggest carnival in the world after Rio de Janeiro carnival.
• The carnival birth began in the nineteenth century.
• The carnival was institutionalized in 1959

WHEN AND WHERE THE CARNIVAL TAKE PLACE
• The carnival take place from Saturday through Tuesday before Ash Wednesday.
• The main stage of the carnival is the Via 40, Industrial Avenue where they develop the Battle of Flowers (Saturday), the Great Parade (Sunday) and the Folk Tradition Parade (Monday).

TRADICIONAL DANCES
• Cumbia: It is a folk dance with Afro-Colombian rhythm and its name is derived from the word cumbé, meaning fun or party.
• Mapale: It is also a big dance in the middle of dancers move frenzy evoking its strong jumps, falls, movement of the shoulders and hips, so energetic, a clash of bodies.
