Page 1 Dear Parents and Carers, Thanks to everyone who supported our St George Performing Arts. Carlton Public School were well represented with 3 dance groups and lots of kids in the choir. Miss Morrison, Mrs Matthews, Miss Kelly, Miss Stergiou, Miss Damianos, Miss Dimarakis, Mrs Palmer and Mrs Elmir all spent many hours preparing for the concert and we are very appreciative of the time and talents they devoted to getting the children ready. With such diverse range of talents in our school, it’s not surprising that many of our children and teachers followed up this big night with PSSA finals where they showed wonderful skills and fair play. The results of these games are included in our weekly PSSA report and we thank the teachers who have prepared our kids for these games and to the parents who came along to cheer them on. Congratulations to Mrs Philip, Mr Beardsley, Miss Elmowy, Mr Omar, Mrs Palmer, Miss Bayer and Ms Boesen who trained our PSSA teams and took the students to the various venues each week. Training and rehearsing for these activities is an additional responsibility for staff during lunch times or before and after school. Carlton Public School’s extra activities would not happen without the commitment of our wonderful teachers. Finally, please support our annual Father’s Matter Breakfast Wednesday 28 August from 7.30am. This is a key event on our school calendar where everyone has a wonderful time recognising the special men in our lives! 11.30 am Monday 19 August, 2019 in the COLA. Parents are most welcome to attend the award assembly at 11.25 am each week to see their child receive their very special award. Silver awards are presented to children when they have received 5 Bronze Awards = 50 tokens. Gold awards are presented when a child receives 10 Bronze awards = 100 tokens

P&C News Fathers Matter Breakfast – Wednesday 28 August
We will be holding the Fathers Matter BBQ breakfast before school on Wednesday 28 August for the children and all the special dads, grandfathers and uncles in their lives. You should have received a note with details on how to pre-order breakfast. We are also asking for volunteers particularly from the female school community to help cook and serve breakfast to our wonderful dads, so please note this date in your diaries. LIBRARY EVENTS IN TERM 3 Term 3 is always an exciting time for us in CPS Library. We wish to inform you about the following upcoming Term 3 events. Book Week 2019 (Week 5) Book Week is an exciting annual event which is celebrated by schools and libraries all around Australia. Book Week is the longest running children’s festival in Australia. Schools and public libraries celebrate books and Australian authors, offer competitions and develop lesson activities based on some of the award winning short-listed books. These quality books are judged by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. You can view the short-listed books @ http://cbca.org.au Please note that some of these books are unsuitable for Primary students (aimed at older students). CPS Library will focus only on some of the Picture books, Early childhood books, Notables, New illustrators and suitable Information books. This year the Book Week theme is: Reading is my Secret Power On Friday morning of Week 5, Mr Omar has organised a Book Week character Parade for CPS Students. Also in Week 7, This year’s Book Week shows in our School hall are: Perform Education shows: Big Dreams… In CPS School Hall on: Monday 2nd September Week 7 – Three shows: K-2 (junior) 3-4 (general) 5-6 (Senior) in the Hall BiG DREAMS! Join Henry and Lou in a brand new educational musical to celebrate the best of Australian children’s books from The Children’s Book Council of Australia 2019 shortlist, and celebrating the CBCA Book Week 2019 theme READING IS MY SECRET POWER. This heartfelt and inspiring in-school production looks at different episodes in each character’s journey where they learn not to be discouraged by negative messages in order to follow their heart’s desire.
