Carlisle Europe Launches New TempraBoxTempraBox from Carlisle is a collection of high-quality insulated food transportation boxes. The boxes are made from high density expanded polypropylene (EPP), which is so durable that the boxes are almostunbreakable. EPP is also extremely lightweight, which makes the boxes easy to handle when full. The boxes are also stackable making them easy to store and transport.

The material has excellent insulation properties, and can keep food at temperatures from as low as -40°c to as high as 120°c. As long as the boxes are over 75% full and are kept closed, the temperature lost is as little as 1°c - 2°c per hour.

To extend the time food can be kept at safetemperatures, and to assist the performance of the boxes in warmer climates, we recommend the use of the cooling tops and cool packs, which are available for the GN and 60 x 40 sized boxes.

The GN sized boxes can be used with either stainless steel, polycarbonate or high heat polysulfone food pans making them perfect for a variety of uses.

The Tempra 60 x 40 range of boxes are large enough to hold 60cm x 40cm baking trays.

All the boxes are safe for direct food contact, making them ideal as a replacement for cardboard for use as storage boxes in walk-in freezers, refrigerators or even dry storage rooms.

EPP is completely dishwasher safe, so all boxes can be put through commercial dishwashers. The door of the endloader is removable, so even this item can be thoroughly cleaned in the dishwasher.

At the end of their lifecycle, all the boxes in the TempraBox range can be fully recycled, reducing your impact on the environment.

Sales News from Around the World... Our Carlisle Sales Teams stay very busy taking care of customers and looking for new business. Here are some highlights from the past few months. As always, they send a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to every-one behind the scenes who help them make things happen!!

Dianne Brooks, Sr Director of Corporate Accounts & Dave Rall, Principal at ProReps West were responsible for around $400,000 in new business at Restaurant Depot - West Division (RD). They were able to convert RD to additional Kitchen Accessories from Carlisle as well as our OptiClean Warewashing Racks. If you are not familiar with RD, they are a wholesale cash & carry business operating 92 stores in 27 states. Product will be supplied through both our Reno & Charlotte DCs.

It took a team to get a large waste container conversion (from Rubbermaid) in upstate NY resulting in the pick up of $350,000 in annual sales. Helping with this sale: Rob Vickers, J Wilson Marketing, Tiffany Hughes, Dir of Sales North, Amy Yore, VP of Distribution Sales, Stuart Sharp, VP of Sales worked together to convert a large chunk of business to Carlisle.

Nancy Voorhees, Dir of National Account Sales & Jorge Campozano, Dir of Sales Latin America recently spent a few days with the King – Burger King that is. This was our first Latin American show for Burger King and our first opportunity to meet the Latin franchisees. Nancy & Jorge were there to help promote product awareness for Carlisle and work on growing sales in this area. The Latin America Market has great growth potential in the coming years with Burger King Brazil having plans to add 500 new locations in the next five years.

The Retherm team led by Mari Herdine worked with the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) in upstate New York this past summer to successfully bring in over $1,000,000 in new business. The Batavia, Buffalo & Syracuse Veterans facilities will be using Dinex retherm products including Thermal Aire II and Perfect Serv II. Buffalo and Syracuse VA’s successfully implemented the Thermal-Aire II system in July. They are both quite pleased with the results, and are receiving very favorable feedback from their patients. The Batavia equipment has shipped and should be in use shortly.

Switching to retherm from other systems is a major transition and takes an extensive amount of planning. Start up costs is significant but the benefits are well worth it as retherm systems allow foodservice staff to offer fresher, tastier foods with less labor costs.(photo(s) to come)

Nancy Voorhees and our National Accounts team was involved in a national new product roll-out for McDonalds resulting in $300,000 in sales for September. The new Cheddar Bacon Onion Burger is rolling out to 14,500 McDonalds locations and Carlisle was there to support them with four of our products. Kudos to forecasting, production and shipping to help make this happen in the timeframe needed.

In the first quarter, Edward Don and Dinex partnered to create a District Manager Promotional Contest for Dinex tray top conversions. That contest had two winners: Henry Logan in Georgia and Jeff Goldstein in Illinois. As the top two DSMs they were presented with iPad2s.

Edward Don Atlanta opened a 60 location nursing home chain, converted the chain from using a competitor’s tray top products to Dinex tray top ware, lids and will be selling a variety of small wares and equipment to the chain. A win-win for Dinex and Edward Don.

Carlisle was able to play a big role in McDonald’s product reveal of the new Cheddar Bacon Onion burger.

The Tradeshow Review

2012 Annual National Conference for the School Nutrition Association (SNA) was held in Denver, Colorado July 16-18. Carlisle FoodService Products participated in the trade show portion of the conference with an 800 sq. ft. booth featuring back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house product lines.

Over 1300 combined domestic & international attendees visited the Carlisle booth during this show.

The Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP) 2012 Annual Meeting and Expo were held June 30 through July 3 in San Diego, CA. Apart from Carlisle | Dinex ‘s double honors in the Cupcake Wars, we, also, exhibited in a 400 sq. ft. booth on the main aisle. Nearly 70 attendees visited our Carlisle booth at the Dietitic Managers Association of the ANFP Show this year.

Featured within the Carlisle | Dinex Booth were: MealtimeXpress Delivery Cart; MealtimeXpress Support Cart; Smart Therm II; Turbo Temp; Tray Covers and Paper goods; and Combo Plate & Base Heater.

As a part of the ANFP expo, there was a battle of “Cupcake Wars” between companies involved - Carlisle|Dinex was the WINNER of this competition! Double honor to us as we won the best cupcakes as well as raising the most money for ANFP Scholarship- $1,060! A BIG thanks goes out to the following Carlisle sales leadership team members for all their efforts in putting together great presentations & more at Carlisle U: Keith Sisco, Dianne Brooks, Tiffany Hughes, Edwin Read, Flo Fussenegger, Liz Genereaux & Vivian Kennedy. Great job to everyone - nothing but excellent reviews on your presentations & how welcome you made our attendees feel at Carlisle U. Special thanks to Jill Ponce & Amy Yore who not only executed outstanding presentations as well, but put in the extra effort with the marketing department in organzing Carlisle U this fall. We appreciate your ideas & assistance!

From start to finish, Carlisle U would not be possible each and every year without the knowledge and leadership of Deb Moore, Marketing Services Specialist. Thanks again to Deb for sorting through the nitty-gritty details behind-the-scenes, in order to make this event so successful time & time again! We appreciate you! Also, thank you to Annette McMullen who assisted Deb the overall organization of Carlisle U, Heather Carpenter, who captured the spirit of Carlisle U this year through the lens of her camera, & Joseph Gregory, the man behind the muscle, who helped move every bit of that heavy equipment from the 14th floor to the loading dock. Kudos!

For all new Carlisle employees who are interested in attending Carlisle U in Spring 2013, be on the look out for future emails for details on reserving your spot!

This is Sparta!

No one knows who raised the question about the missing float. No one knows why it was missing in the first place, But the second someone floated the idea it seemed to spread like rabbits in June.

The little town of Sparta has a big company in it,

and when the Sparta employees began to wonder why Carlisle Sparta wasn’t being represented in the annual Butterfest parade, well they got a little mad and a whole lot a creative. What became of this mad driven creativity can be best described as… well why don’t you just look at the pictures.

The Sparta team put together a brush float in this year’s Sparta 28th annual Butterfest parade. The theme for the float was “Sparta’s Brush Garden”. Employees spent evenings, Fridays, and weekends putting together the float for over a month. Brushes from the plant were used to make windmills, pinwheels, daisies, roses, tulips, cat tails, cauliflower, carrots, watermelon, caterpillars, lady bugs, bees, snails, bunnies, and even the beloved Pixar character, Wall-E the robot.

The float was constructed of

324 brushes and 720 brushes were given away at the event. The float received “judge’s choice “award. The team was awarded a $50 gift card- They voted to add that to their volunteer committee account for future events. The float also received a certificate of appreciation from the Butterfest Festmasters.

Personnel that contributed to making the float

were Amanda Cook (Technical Brush), Leo Withrow (Set-up), Chris Hanson (Warehouse), and Shawn Newman (Twisting), Jack Zebell (set-up), Michelle Waite (pastry), Dave Waite (Technical Brush), Linda Thurston (Staple Set), Fran Abbott (Pastry), and Randy Cripe (Maintenance). The tractor and trailer were borrowed and driven by Randy Jotham, and the pull behind cart was borrowed from Bonnie Caldwell (Staple Set) Additional personnel that walked in the parade include Francene Abbott (Pastry) Debbie Chatfield (Twisting), Peggy Hanson (Twisting), and Larry Poquette (2nd shift shipping)

Carlisle Gives Back to Local CommunityThe point is to bring money in to the shop not hand it out, right? It would appear that the employees at Sparta and Batavia missed the memo. During a national economic recession; shouldn’t everyone be pinching pennies? Sparta and Batavia’s employees have found new and inventive ways to give to people in need. Is this any way to run a business? Or just maybe helping people is our business.

Batavia’s & Sparta’s Volunteer Committees are

comprised of a group of employee volunteers who are responsible for locating and filling social & economic voids in their communities. They achieve this by first visiting various locations throughout their communities that do work for people in need. They then decide together which sites they would like to bless and how best to accomplish this. Using contributions from employees and their families, the Volunteer Committee raises money needed to help people in their communities.

Laticia Gonzales, who was part of the volunteer

initiative in Sparta, has taken this culture of giving back to one’s environment and instituted it in Batavia. Being very quick to point out that it is a group effort, Laticia said during an interview that it was the employees that make such events possible “The Employees came up with many ways that they could give back to their community.”

Some of the events that the volunteer committees have undertaken include a School Supply Drive, Big Brothers Big Sisters Summer Fest,

Community Beautification, Elderly Assistance & special activities underprivil-eged children to name just a few. The School Supply Drive, which was held in the month of July, helped less fortunate families in Aurora, IL with their children’s school needs. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Fest was a great opportunity to show local children a really good time of sports, games, pizza feast, balloon races and more. Sparta Employees did a community clean up; removing junk from around their facilities and cleaning up the building facade.

Liticia noted that the purpose of these events

was not only to help those in need, but inspiring Volunteerism while caring for the greater good of others, “Our efforts come from our care and concern for others. We are proud to be able to give back to our communities and are thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in the areas that we live.”

Special Thanks to event volunteers: Leticia Gonzales, Yesica Vivaldo, Pilar Valdez, Eugenio Lazcano, Lisa Slosar, Craig Frye, Carmen Hernandez, Jose Valdez, & Cris Baker. Many other employees also contributed to this event by donating beverages & candy. A special thanks to Jose Valdez who volunteered to work on the community clean up!

Moving On Up...The Batavia Distribution Center elevated itself to new heights when it achieved the COS Operational Excellence award. The Bronze Certification level award which Batavia received for the first time has never before been attained by Food Service. The award, which was presented to the Batavia team by Dave Roberts, was three years in the making.

The COS Operational excellence award is presented to a team that achieves a particular level of measured

improvement. These graduated measurements of improvement (also known as metrics) can only be attained if the entire team works together to meet these specific goals. Reaching each of these goals and achieving the metrics ultimately affects the operational efficiency of the entire team.

Although three years of hard work went into attaining this level of efficiency, the team surprisingly enough now accomplishes much more with a lot less work “Now we work smarter not harder” Bernie Estrada explained when asked what is different now that he has undergone this transformation. Estrada went on to explain that when the transformation began he actually believed he was doing a good job. “The Kaizen events were telling us that we could do better, but only if we would change the way that we were working. It wasn’t only about changing what we did as employees but we had to change how we did it collectively and culturally as a team.”

Estrada credits the success to the hard work of his people. “60% of the tools needed to be successful are our people, so team building is the first part of this process. We first hand-picked the team and gave each member their responsibilities.” Through Kaizen events the culture of the employees was transformed into the efficient workforce that they are now “We went from 120 cases/ hour to 145 cases/ hour.” Estrada explained. The hard work (or should I say “smart work”) of the Batavia team is just one reason why the Carlisle FoodService Products company is moving on up.

Choose My PlateThe Department of Agriculture has designed a new plate graphic aimed at providing guidance on healthy eating. The USDA has replaced the Food Pyramid with the MyPlate icon shown above.

The plate will feature four sections. Half of the plate is filled with fruits and vegetables. Another section features grains. Recommendations are that the grains be whole grains such a whole wheat and whole grain cereals such as oatmeal. The remainder of the plate comprises proteins such as chicken, fish and nuts. Off to the side a smaller circle will represent dairy. Recommendations are that the dairy choices by low-fat in nature such as low-fat milk, yogurt and cheese.

Employee Week in OKC

From the World of HR...

Open enrollment for all Carlisle employees is scheduled for November 2012! One of the big changes will be the switch to a paperless system. Employees will be required to go online and make their personal selections for all benefit options. Any employees without a company email address will receive one. Employees will then have the option to access electronic communications at home or at work using the Kiosks located at each facility.

This new system will help to minimize the errors easily made with a paper intensive process. Communications meetings will be scheduled at each location hosted by HR to explain the new process and health insurance options. Watch for more details to come from our HR Department soon.

Health Care Open Enrollment News

Kudos CornerDuring the Spring Buying Conference In April, Stuart Sharp, VP Sales, accepted the ABC (Allied Buying Corporation) Apple of Appreciation Award on behalf of Margaret Webb, Sr. Sales Administrator.

ABC management and staff recognized Margaret’s extraordinary service, quick and professional response to their requests for assistance and information. She was noted for often times proactively contacting the ABC organization with advise and information, ”above and beyond” her normal responsibility over an extended period of time.

Chihuahua Hosts Annual Family Event at ZooEach year the Chihuahua facility holds a summer event for its employees and their families. Last year’s event was held at an amusement park. It was so successful people were asking for another get together. So, on Saturday, August 25th, the employees and their families met at the facility and loaded the bus for a 40-mile trip to the Aldama city zoo.

Many of our operators do not have the financial resources to transport all their family; in fact 80% of people were not aware of the zoo and not having the money to pay for transportation and other expenses.

The Human Resource Department worked up various options for their annual family event, but the zoo with the cool water pools, exotic animals and animals from their region was the logical choice. The zoo also provided an opportunity for the children to have their picture taken with a baby jaguar. The department scheduled the buses, prepared snacks, welcomed the employees and their families and took a family photographs as mementos of their visit to the zoo.

Employees were very happy to know that the zoo and the children enjoyed the experience of discovering the

different kinds of animals, many children in the return were sad to leave the zoo; it was a very fun family day.

Contributing Writer, Dora Sosa, Human Resource Manager, Carlisle Mexico

Chichuhua employees and their families were able to enjoy a fun, leisurely day out at the Zoologico de Chihuahua. Nearly 80% attendees had never been to the zoo before.

Congratulations Margaret Webb (OKC office) for her contribution to the success of Carlisle with this very important customer, Allied Buying Corporation.
