Nurses from a variety of care environments are facing new challenges of

managing patient care that includes substance use disorders across the

continuum of care.

This conference will address:

The nature of substance use disorders, drug trends/statistics

Healthy boundaries and best practice interactions provide strategies to

manage patient care and potential for drug abuse in hospital settings

Guidelines, expectations, and legal issues surrounding the care of patients

with substance use disorders

Learning outcomes: Our goal is to equip nurses and health care providers with

the evidence, the tools, and the information needed to address safety issues

related to patients with substance use disorders.

Objectives:

Describe drug trends/statistics, the opioid epidemic, and what is being

done

Discuss best practice for interactions with persons with addiction in acute

care

Recognize Substance Use Disorders by screening for medication misuse,

diversion & addiction

Explain nursing and integrated care surrounding drug misuse disorders

including de-stigmatization

Employ Safe Pain Management to avoid substance abuse

ing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

hours.

A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for all cancellations re-

ceived or postmarked at least one week prior to the course date. No refunds

are issued thereafter.

Cancellations received the day of the course are not eligible for a refund.

UK College of Nursing Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel a

course when circumstances are warranted. In such a case, a full refund will be

issued. UK College of Nursing is not responsible for hotel, plane, car, or other

such fees.
