Background on CTE• In response to the demanding requirements of
the global economy, California educators have responded with curriculum including knowledge- and skills-based standards related to preparing students for the labor market.• California’s CTE model curriculum standards are
presented in 15 industry sectors, or groupings, of related careers and broad industries.
• Each sector has two or more career pathways• Within each career pathway are identified
standards detailing the knowledge and technical skills students need to succeed in the selected pathway.

The CTE Master Plan• The District’s CTE Master Plan was created as a
framework to provide students with the skills and abilities to make a successful transition from school to a career.
• The District’s CTE plan reflects three key goals for the District: 1) Accelerate gains in student performance2) Provide parent, community and higher education
support3) Secure adequate funding for the design and
development of the California CTE standards approved by the State Board of Education, including:• A relationship to the economy• Preparation for student success• Career planning and management

Ongoing Evaluation of CTE Programs• Decisions guiding the instructional program,
budget and facilities improvements should be data-driven and research-based.
• Data that can be evaluated includes:• The percent of students completing capstone
CTE courses.• The percent of students placed in
apprenticeships, enroll in a community college, four-year college or other advanced educational training or enter directly in to the workforce.
• Student performance based on standardized tests, formative assessments, grades & industry certifications.
June 17, 2010 14
CTE Facilities• Last fall, per the Facilities Master Plan, the District
applied for, and received, a grant from the State, specifically for improvements to Career Technical Education Facilities
• In December 2009, a fire demolished the agriculture, auto and wood shop classrooms at Dos Palos High School

Facilities Plans to House CTE Programs
• Two Phases of Construction
1) Provide modular classrooms to house the shops and classrooms on a temporary basis
• Completed for the 2010-11 school year2) Construct permanent shop classrooms to replace what was
lost in the fire & convert the modular classrooms from Phase 1 into classrooms to house various educational programs.

CTEAC Findings Related to CTE Facilities (Required for State Funding)1) Due to the fire that destroyed the Agricultural
Laboratory, Auto Shop, Wood Shop, Information Technology Laboratory and several classrooms, these programs and related courses are currently being taught in woefully inadequate facilities, with inadequate furniture and equipment.
2) The courses being taught in the Art, Media and Entertainment Industry sector are housed in adequate facilities, however, upgrades are needed in the areas of multi-media hardware, computer hardware and software and classroom furniture.
