WHAT ARE THE DUTIES AS AN ELEMENTARY TEACHER?

Elementary school teachers prepare younger students for future schooling by teaching them the basics of subjects such as math and reading.

WORKING CONDITIONS!

With elementary teaching, like the regular workplace, there are certain conditions that come with the job, such as: Interpersonal relationships: being able to have a

very high level of social interaction, and be able to work together with the other teachers, as well as students and their parents.

Physical work conditions: usually indoors and work very close with the children.

Work performance: often times the same schedule is repeated weekly or daily!

Hours/Travel: most teachers work nine months, while the children are in school and have the summer off, but some teach summer school.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS?!

To work as an elementary teacher, you need to: Have a High School diploma or a GED Have at least a Bachelor’s Degree Complete an approved teaching training program Complete a student teaching internship Pass the state licensing exam

ELEMENTARY TEACHER EARNINGS!?

The average elementary teacher salary is $52,447.

Teachers get certain benefits like: Social Security 401K/403B Disabilities (not common) Health Care Pensions Time off

COLLEGE, COLLEGE, COLLEGE!

The perfect school would have to be the University of Michigan or Central Michigan University!

At both of these schools a Bachelors Degree is required.

WHAT ARE THE DUTIES OF AN RN?

Registered nurses (RNs) provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients and the public about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.

WORKING CONDITIONS?

Just like an job, there are certain work conditions that apply to the RN world. Interpersonal relationships: have a high level of

social contact, and often nurses deal with unhappy or unpleasant patients.

Physical work conditions: exposed to many illnesses, so the uniform involves gloves and sometimes a mask.

Work performance: must be EXACT with their work or they could be putting their patients health at risk. They must meet strict guidelines on a daily basis, and have to be able to make decisions regarding the patients health usually without the doctors guidance.

WHAT TRAINING IS REQUIRED AND WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS?!

There are three ways to become an RN: Completing a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. (BSN) Completing an Associate Degree in Nursing. (ADN) Completing a Diploma Program in a hospital.

Certain classes are studied in the pursuit of this degree such as: Chemistry Nutrition Psychology Anatomy Physiology Microbiology

RN EARNINGS!

The hourly wages for an RN on average is $32.56, however RN’s can make drastically more or less depending on the location they are in, as well as their experience.

Annually, RN’s make around $67,7220. The benefits of an RN include:

Also in many cases, if an RN wants to further pursue their education, many employers will pay for them to do so.

PERFECT COLLEGE?

The best colleges to pursue this degree would have to be either Lake Superior State University or Ferris State University.

At either of these schools the BSN degree is available as well as a Nursing Education Certificate Program.

SIMILARITIES…

To obtain either of these jobs, a Bachelors Degree is generally required in either the nursing or teaching fields.

In both of these fields, it is required to continue education to keep up with the changes and new advances.

Both of these careers involve direct contact on a daily basis with the community, so there has to be some sense of passion to help people and have the dedication and patience to watch them succeed. Obviously, being a “people person” is a plus! (:

DIFFERENCES…

With the nursing field, you are working with people that are generally “ill” and need treated, while in teaching, the kids usually don’t need to be treated, more as they are looking to obtain information.

The style of learning for both these fields is also different. Nurse training works directly with the people or

simulated labs, to develop a sense of what they will be doing on the job.

Teachers usually don’t work directly with a class of children until their final year in college, when they being student teaching after college.

SO WHAT’S THE FINAL DECISION?

The final decision is…Elementary Education!
