Mission StatementHistory

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC)is located in Clayton, Ohio, and serves 27 areahigh schools. MVCTC offers over 50 career technicalprograms for high school juniors and seniors, andlifelong learning opportunities for adult studentsin the Adult Education programs. Since itsbeginning in 1971, the MVCTC has matured froma quality vocational school to a world-class careertechnology center.

Campus Description

• Three-building campus located on a 240-acre site

• 425,000 square feet under roof

• Two modern farm buildings and an aircraft hangar

• 20 acres of woods with a variety of trees (including maple and burr oak that are over 200 years old)

• 120 acres of farm land and a 3/4 - acre stocked pond

Location

The MVCTC campus is located 1/2 mile south ofI-70 at Exit 26 (Hoke Road) and 1/4 mile southof the State Route 49 and Hoke Road junction inClayton, Ohio. The campus is 11 miles northwestof downtown Dayton.

Preparing For The Future

While hands-on learning is the focus at MVCTC, we offerrigorous academic preparation for our students withtechnology integrated into every aspect of our curriculum. We are preparing our students for working, learning,and living in a highly competitive global economy.Times have changed. Today, more than half of ourstudents choose to go on to college. We are partnerswith area colleges, universities, and apprenticeshipprograms that help us develop programs that provideour students a seamless transition to college or otherpost secondary education options.

Student Admission

MVCTC admits students to each career technical programusing criteria developed by the staff in cooperation withrepresentatives from partner schools and approved bythe MVCTC Board of Education. In our selection process,we try to select those students who we feel may benefitfrom a career technical curriculum. If a student is notaccepted into his/her first choice career technicalprogram, that student may be interviewed to seek outother career program choices. A waiting list is kept foreach career program, and students are placed as spacebecomes available.

School Schedule

Students attend MVCTC from 8:05 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.each day. The school day consists of hands-on careertechnical program training, English, science, math, andelective classes. Transportation is provided by eachpartner high school. Apprenticeship, Internship, andOpen Enrollment students must provide their own dailytransportation.

Graduation

Students can earn eight credits each year at MVCTC,which are awarded by semester. They receive their highschool diplomas from their home high schools. Uponcompletion of a career technical program, a studentmust have good grades, good attendance, and demonstratecompetencies in the career program. A student willreceive a portfolio from MVCTC which displays a profileof both professional and personal accomplishments.This portfolio is called a Career Passport.

Air Force JROTC offers a special opportunity to combinebasic military training with academic preparation for afuture career in the aviation industry. Students learn anddevelop leadership skills while being introduced to civilianand military aerospace opportunities.

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center has established arolling admissions process. Applications will be reviewed in thefollowing order:

Applications from qualified students currently attending one of theMVCTC’s 27 partner schools will be reviewed. During this time, admissionpriority will be given to these students.

In addition to applications from qualified students currently attendingone of the MVCTC’s 27 partner schools, applications from qualifiedstudents currently residing in one of the attendance districts of the27 partner schools but not attending one of these schools will bereviewed. During this time, to the extent that there is space availablein a program, admission priority will be provided first to studentscurrently attending one of the partner schools and then to studentscurrently residing in one of the attendance districts of the 27 schools.

In addition to applications from qualified students currently attendingone of the MVCTC’s 27 partner schools and students currently residingin one of the attendance districts of the partner schools, to the extentthat there is space available in the program, applications from qualifiedstudents who wish to be admitted under MVCTC’s open enrollmentpolicy (i.e., students who neither attend one of the partner schoolsnor reside in one of the attendance districts of the partner schools)will be reviewed for admission.

At all times, program admissions may be limited due to predeterminedfactors, including but not limited to, the size of the facilities/lab, theavailability of necessary equipment, and student and staff safetyconcerns.

MVCTC Admission Procedures

In addition to the foregoing, preferencefor admission shall be given in thefollowing order:

1. In the case of a two-year program, studentswho have completed two years of high schooland need two years at MVCTC to complete their graduation requirements.

2. In the case of a one-year program, studentswho have completed three years of high school and need one year at MVCTC to complete their graduation requirements.

3. Students who are in good standing at theirhome high school and on track to graduatewithout any credit deficiencies.

4. Students who complete the application packet and provide all needed records ina timely manner. Application timelineswill be posted on the website and in the program guides.

5. Students who have demonstrated an attendance rate of 95% or higher theprevious year.

6. Students who meet the minimum competencies/qualifications for the program.

7. Students who have spent the semesterprior to the year for which they are applyingfor admittance to MVCTC in successful and regular attendance at their home high school(i.e., neither expelled, on home instruction,nor assigned to an alternative out-of-schoolprogram).

8. Additional criteria for tech prep programs as adopted by the Miami Valley TechPrep Consortium will be used where applicable. Applications from students whodo not meet the eight stated admission preferences will be reviewed if openings stillexist in the program for which the student has applied. Students who have credit deficiencies and/or poor attendance will berequired to submit plans for making up thecredit deficiencies and/or sign an attendancepledge if the student is admitted to MVCTC.

MVCTC recognizes that certain circumstancesmay require an application be administrativelyreviewed on a case-by-case basis for exceptionsto the foregoing preferences when the applicantis a student with a disability. MVCTC shallcomply with all applicable state and federallaws and regulations pertaining to the admissionof students with disabilities.

Admission to all MVCTC courses shall only befor credit with a grade issued at the end of thecourse. Courses cannot be taken as an audit.

Early College Connection

MVCTC is preparing students for success! Through a varietyof programs, MVCTC students are preparing for college, earningcollege credits, and getting on-the-job training.

The Articulation Program requires that students spend two yearsat MVCTC, followed by two years at a partnering college ortechnical school. Selected credits earned at MVCTC are transferableto the partner college where they apply toward a degree.

In the College Tech Prep Program, students focus on developingspecific skill sets in technical, high-demand fields. Studentstaking this pathway to college will find themselves enteringcollege at a higher readiness level and with college credits alreadyto their name—and, often, with a Tech Prep Scholarship for theirachievements.

The School-To-Work-Apprenticeship Program at MVCTC is anationally recognized program. MVCTC students are matched withregistered apprenticeship employers in their chosen field ofinterest while they are attending MVCTC. Students find thisoption rewarding, as it allows for immediate transition to theworkforce with the opportunity to pursue higher education.As a result of solid work practices and ethics learned at MVCTC,many employers may offer tuition reimbursement to assist studentsin their career development.

MVCTC, Miami University of Middletown (MUM), and Wright StateUniversity have partnered to deliver Dual Credit courses to ourstudents. Dual Credit is not PSEO. Dual Credit allows studentsthe opportunity to remain on the MVCTC campus, take college-level courses, and earn both high school and college credits.

All Ohio high school students are required to pass the OhioGraduation Test (OGT) that covers reading, writing, mathematics,science, and social studies.
