CAREER EDUCATION

HOW TO USE THE GUIDEThe CE Guide will help you to understand how to enroll in over 200 CE programs available at CCSF. Here are some terms you will see:

Program CCSF CE programs consist of courses designed to prepare students for employment in a specific career field. Programs are listed by academic department in alphabetical order.

Completion Award When all the courses in a program have been completed, students may apply for an associate degree, a credit certificate, or a Noncredit certificate. Certificate programs are usually 12 to 30 units, while associate degree programs require 60 or more units of coursework, including general education classes.

Credit/Noncredit Many CE programs offer college credit that can be applied to a college degree. As of Spring 2018, credit courses cost $46 per unit for California residents and $257 per unit for non-residents, international students, and students with temporary visas. San Francisco residents qualify for FreeCity, which waives the $46 per unit tuition fee; other fees still apply. Students can also earn certificates by enrolling in Noncredit CE programs. Noncredit courses are free, but students must pay for books, supplies, and other materials as required.

Units/Hours The minimum number of semesters and units (or hours, for Noncredit programs) to complete each award is shown. Units listed for degrees correspond to major coursework: the total units for a degree is at least 60. Programs that can be completed entire-ly during evenings or weekends are marked with an asterisk (*).

Phone For further questions, contact information on specific programs is listed.

ENROLLMENT

Credit Program

Apply for Admission and Financial Aid

All new and re-admit students (those who have been away from CCSF for one academic year or more prior to the coming semester) need to submit an admissions application.

If qualified, students may apply for Financial Aid. Paying for the cost of a college education requires a partnership among parents, students, and the college. Each partner has responsibilities to fulfill in meeting that cost. Financial aid is money that helps pay for the cost of education (college fees, books, and supplies). City College of San Francisco (CCSF) participates in most federal and state financial aid programs.

1 Complete the English or ESL and Math Assessments

AB 705With the newly enacted Assembly Bill 705, students may receive English and math course placements using high school performance data. Please meet with an academic counselor to develop your education plan in preparation for the new semester!

About AB 705 English & Math Placement Change Due to the passage of law AB 705, which provides several new options to students to receive English and math course placement, students may use their U.S. high school data to be placed into transfer-level English and math courses.

Get Your English & Math Placement Course Information View your English and math course placement based on the new English and Math course placement models per AB 705 by logging into Web4. You can review your course placement, Web Registration Appointment, and other related information. Students who feel they need additional language acquisition support may want to take the Credit ESL Placement Test or talk to an academic counselor about the ESL sequence.

2

Attend a New Student Orientation

All non-exempt new students to City College are required to participate in New Student Orientation. The orientation answers many of your questions about becoming a student at City College and introduces you to essential programs, services, and procedures.

You may participate in one of our upcoming All-in-One Days or complete an Online Orientation.

3Meet with a Counselor

You will meet with an academic counselor after you complete your online or in-person orientation to CCSF. You and your counselor will complete the Initial Educational Plan, selecting courses for your first one or two semesters at City College.

Once you have completed Steps 1–4 the Initial Educational Plan and the Matriculation Component Card must be submitted to Conlan Hall, E-204 in order to earn the earliest possible registration date.

If you are in a special program (e.g., international students) you will need to see one of the counselors assigned to that program.

You choose your counselor! Plan to meet with your counselor at least once per semester!

4

Register for ClassesNow that you have finished Steps 1–4, you can use the registration appointment given to you when you submitted your admission application, once you turn in your completed Matriculation Component Card and Initial Interview Form to E-204 in Conlan Hall.

5

Noncredit Program

Your steps to becoming a City College Noncredit student:

1. Apply for Noncredit Admission

2. Take a Noncredit & Credit Placement Test

3. Meet with a Counselor

4. Register for Noncredit Classes

Go to the Admissions and Enrollment Office at the educa-tional centers listed to obtain admissions and registration information. Most Noncredit classes can be started at anytime during the semester.
