The Career Center’s chapter of NTHS now includes 671 members since its start 10 years ago. “For the first time, we have selected a NTHS Distinguished Alumni, Katie Dysert, who was honored during the event,” said Rita Phipps, Career Center counselor and NTHS advisor. “She gave a great perspective on how involvement in this group can benefit a student’s future.” NTHS membership is a designation that goes to a select group of Career and Technical Education students. To be eligible, a student must maintain a 3.2 cumulative grade point average at their local high school and a 3.5 grade point average each semester or trimester at the Career Center. “Not only did NTHS influence my life today, but coming to the Career Center did as well,” Dysert said. “Shortly after graduation from Springport in 2008, I received my cosmetology license. I have worked at Elements of Hair Design for four years, attended multiple trainings and had an opportunity to be an apprentice in Rome, Italy. “Take advantage of everything available here at the Career Center; it will truly help shape the actions you take in the future.” Being a NTHS member also gives Career Center students an opportunity to apply for a NTHS scholarship worth $1,000. *** More on National Technical Honor Society: The NTHS was established in 1984 by a group of educators and business people in North Carolina with the intent of recognizing the achievements of outstanding career and technical students.
