Routine MaintenanceDusting

Use a feather duster for regular light dusting.

Vacuuming

For more thorough dust removal, a hand-held vacuum with low suction may be used. When vacuuming, avoid pulling or stretching the fabric. Start in the upper left corner and work across the fabric using short horizontal strokes while steadying the fabric with your free hand. Each stroke should be approximately the width of two to three vanes. Do not use long horizontal or vertical strokes, as these actions will crease the fabric. Continue to the bottom of the fabric.

CAUTION: Do not use a brush attachment or rigorous vacuuming since either could distort the fabric.

Spot Cleaning

To reduce the potential for permanent staining, spots should be treated and cleaned as soon as possible with a clothing stain pre-treatment solution.

1. Apply the pre-treatment solution to a clean, white cloth.

2. Support the fabric from behind using another clean, dry cloth. Clean the spot using a gentle blotting action. Avoid rubbing the fabric since any abrasive action may cause it to distort.

3. Let the area air dry.

4. After the area is dry, remove excess solution by blotting it with distilled or bottled water applied to another clean cloth.

Wrinkle and Crease RemovalThe steaming methods described below can be used to help minimise hard wrinkles or creases.

Hand Method

1. Rotate vanes to the fully opened position.

2. Apply warm distilled or bottled water to a clean, white cloth.

3. Support the fabric from behind using another clean, dry cloth.

4. Blot the wrinkle or creased area with the wet cloth.

5. Let the area air dry.

Steam Machine Method

1. Rotate vanes to the fully opened position.

2. Steam from the back side of the fabric whenever possible. Set the steamer to its lowest possible setting, not to exceed 100°C.

3. The steaming unit should never directly touch the fabric. Hold the wand 50mm to 75mm away from the fabric.

4. Use slow, continuous vertical movements. Begin at the top of the fabric and work your way down.

5. Let the area air dry.

Deep Cleaning For deep cleaning, both injection/extraction and ultrasonic cleaning methods are recommended. Many professional blind cleaning companies offer this in selected regions. Contact your Luxaflex store of purchase to find out if this is available in your area.

Luxaflex® Luminette® Privacy Sheers

IMPORTANT:

• Disposable gloves should be worn when handling fabrics.

• Keep all cleaning solutions away from the Softrak® headrail system. Never immerse the headrail.

• Do not use electrostatic cleaning devices on any Luminette product.

• Do not dry clean Luminette fabrics.

Luminette fabrics are 100% polyester, making them resilient, anti-static and dust resistant. Periodic cleaning is recommended to help keep your Luminette Privacy Sheers looking like new. For all cleaning applications, fabrics should remain hanging to minimise handling, wrinkling, or puckering.

Luxaflex® Silhouette® Shadings

Silhouette Shadings are made of 100% polyester, which means they are inherently durable and resilient. However, care must be taken to avoid wrinkling the fabric, particularly where the vanes meet the sheer facings.

Routine MaintenanceDusting

Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning needed in most circumstances.

Vacuuming

Use a low suction, hand-held vacuum for more thorough dust removal.

Compressed Air/Hair Dryer (Cool Setting)

Use compressed air or a hair dryer on a cool setting to blow dust and dirt off shades.

Spot Cleaning

Spot clean the headrail using a sponge or delicate cloth, cool distilled water and a mild soap solution; handle with care as you would any fine fabric. Only available with Matisse Collection, Chateau, Brio, Myst and French Linen.

Deep CleaningUltrasonic Cleaning

Silhouette Shadings can be ultrasonically cleaned by a professional, with the exception of Bon Soir, Chateau, The Matisse Collection, The Matisse Collection Bon Soir, Myst and Brio.

• Specify that a mild detergent solution be used.

• Never immerse the headrail in the solution.

• Allow the shading to dry in the completely lowered position.

Injection/Extraction

Silhouette Shadings can be professionally cleaned using the injection/extraction method. Contact your Luxaflex store of purchase to find out if this is available in your area.

IMPORTANT:

• Gold Radiance, Silver Reflection, Bronze Shimmer, and Champagne Shine hardware finishes can be spot cleaned with lukewarm water and a gentle soap. Do not use alcohol, baby wipes or alkaline cleansers. These may stain or destroy the finish.

• Do not use electrostatic cleaning wipes on any Silhouette Shadings.

Combining high quality textiles with innovative operating systems for easy maintenance, the Luxaflex Fabric Collection includes: Roller Blinds, Roman Shades, Vertical Blinds and Panel Glide. Luxaflex Fabric Collection fabrics are treated with a protective anti-static coating, making the fabric less susceptible to dirt and dust build-up than normal cloth. However, it is recommended that any stains should be removed without delay.

Routine MaintenancePeriodic cleaning is recommended to help keep the blinds looking like new.

Dusting

Surface dust may be removed with a gentle brush, feather duster or clean dry cloth.

Spot Cleaning

It is recommended that stains and spills are attended to promptly. Simply wipe the fabric with a sponge and lukewarm water. If marks are still visible, add a little mild detergent and gently dry with a clean cloth. For removal of dirt and grime, an art gum rubber is excellent for cleaning small marks.

Luxaflex® Fabric Collection

Many Luxaflex fabrics are treated with DURAGUARD® Fabric Protector and/or Sanitized® Antimicrobial Protection, which help resist liquid stains and protect against the development of mildew and bacteria.

Luxaflex Timber Shutters and Country Woods® Venetians are made of quality timber and require minimal regular cleaning.

Routine MaintenanceDusting

Dust can be easily brushed off using a clean dry cloth, a feather duster or a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment. To dust or vacuum, tilt the louvre up and then down, (but not entirely closed) to reach the entire top and bottom surface of the louvres.

Spot Cleaning

• Dirty louvres can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

• Chemical based cleaning products are not recommended.

• Do not allow a lot of water to come into contact with the timber. Although the timber is coated, water can cause the louvres to warp, bow or twist, stains to occur or the paint/lacquer to peel. Do not use a damp cloth when cleaning. Damage caused by water is not covered under warranty.

• Luxaflex Woods Collection shutters and blinds are a natural product and over time will age from the effects of the sun.

Handy TipWhen cleaning any window, spray glass cleaner on a cloth rather than spraying directly on the window. This will prevent damage to the wood finish by splattering the cleaning solution.

Luxaflex® Woods Collection

Aluminium Venetians are made from a durable and flexible ‘bounceback’ aluminium that is resistant to abrasion, peeling, scratching, dulling and discolouration.

Routine Maintenance• Dust can be easily brushed off at regular intervals using a clean soft

cloth, a feather duster (recommended) or by using a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. To dust, tilt the slats up and then down (but not entirely closed) to reach the entire surfaces.

• To vacuum, use the brush attachment and tilt slats as above.

• Slats may be wiped over with warm water and a mild detergent.

Deep CleaningYou can also have your blinds cleaned by a professional cleaning service which uses ultrasonic cleaning technology.

PolySatin Shutters are made from a non-toxic polyresin compound, making them durable and virtually maintenance-free.

Routine Maintenance• Dust can be easily brushed off using a clean dry cloth, a feather

duster or a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment.

• Permanent marker, ink, crayon and other staining agents do not hold to the smooth PolySatin surface, making cleaning the shutters easy. To remove stains, simply wipe with a sponge and lukewarm water.

Deep CleaningHinged models feature a two-part hinge system allowing the shutter panels to be easily removed from the window within seconds, and reinstalled without needing a manual. You can even take the shutter outside and hose clean!

Wood Essence Blinds combine the look of real wood with the quality and durability of advance technology that is resistant to discolouration and warping.

Routine Maintenance• Dust can be easily brushed off using a clean dry cloth, a feather

duster or a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment.

• To remove stains, simply wipe with a sponge and lukewarm water.

Acrylic, EverScreen and Hunter Douglas Canvas fabrics have been manufactured from the highest quality materials and will give many years of outstanding service if cared for appropriately.

Routine Maintenance• Always ensure any electrical connections to the awning are isolated

prior to any cleaning.

• The hardware of the awning is low maintenance. Wipe down with a damp cloth as necessary to remove any dirt or dust.

• Avoid rolling up the fabric awning when wet. Roll up style awning should be retracted in rain or storm conditions. If rolled up wet, the awning should be extended and allowed to dry once the weather clears. Failure to take this action will encourage algae, mildew or other fungal growth, that will not be covered under your product warranty.

• Avoid pools of water laying on the fabric or leaving the awning extended in the rain, as failure to do so will accelerate some leaching of chemicals, reducing mould and mildew resistance.

• Do not allow dirt, dust, grime, leaf litter and bird matter to remain on the fabric (as this provides a perfect medium for bacteria to proliferate). Cleaning should be carried out by light sponging with warm water and a mild natural soap. Rinse thoroughly to remove soap. Do not scrub the fabric. Hosing the fabric occasionally on a hot day is also beneficial to the appearance of the fabric as it removes dust and grime and minimises the development of algae, mildew or other fungal growth. Do not use soap powder, concentrated soaps or detergents, nor cleaning fluids. Keep insecticides, solvents and fuels away from the awning.

• Occasionally extend the awning fully down to even out the material, particularly if the awning is usually set in one position.

• Should mildew spots develop on the fabric, there are numerous products available at outdoor/camping stores that can be used. Mildew removers are primarily bleach-based and manufacturer’s instructions must be followed. In applying these products the following general tips are given:

(a) Treat the awning in situ i.e. as it sits fully rolled down.

(b) Apply the solution to the fabric liberally (using a sponge mop is ideal). Care should be taken to protect gardens from the solution run off, which will kill plants it comes in contact with.

(c) A second application of mildew remover may be applied if desired. However, obstinate mildew stains may remain.

(d) ALWAYS follow steps (a), (b) and (c) with a water proofing application.

• Awnings exposed to coastal environments and salt spray should be washed down regularly. Salt build up can be very corrosive and salt damage is not covered in your warranty.

Luxaflex® Canopy Awnings

Luxaflex Aluminium Shutters are made from high-grade aluminium and are low-maintenance and durable. We recommend cleaning your aluminum shutters every six months.

Routine Maintenance• Wipe over the shutters using a nonabrasive cloth or sponge with

warm soapy water. A garden hose can be used applying the same principles.

• Concentrate on the areas where the stainless steel hardware is attached to the shutter.

• Remove any salt residue, tannin stains caused by trees and other marks created.

• On completion of the cleaning process, spray a light film of silicone lubricant to any operational hardware such as the tracking system. Ensure these areas are fully dry prior to this application.

• For shutters installed in premises close to coastal or saltwater environments the following cleaning timeframes are recommended.

Proximity Cleaning frequency

Direct beach front Weekly

1km radius Monthly

10km radius Quarterly

Luxaflex Metal Louvres and Fixed Metal Awnings are coated for enhanced durability and protection against environmental effects. They are relatively low-maintenance, but cleaning your awnings from time to time will help to keep them looking new.

Luxaflex® Metal Awnings

Routine MaintenanceSimply hose down the awning and sponge it with a mild solution of natural soap in lukewarm water to remove dirt. Rinse thoroughly.

Awnings exposed to coastal environments and salt spray should be washed down regularly. Salt build up can be very corosive and salt damage is not covered in your warranty.

Care and

Cleaning Guide

The information and advice included in this Care and Cleaning Guide has been prepared with care. However, we are unable to accept responsibility for the results of or any damage caused by cleaning.

Batteries should be checked and replaced at regular intervals subject to frequency of blind use. Never leave flat batteries in a blind or remote control. Acid leaking from batteries is not covered in your warranty.

As with all textiles, Luxaflex fabrics are subject to some variations. Slight wrinkling, puckering, or bowing is inherent in textile products and should be considered normal, acceptable quality. Precautions should be taken to reduce exposure to harsh environmental elements, such as salt air. Continuous exposure through open windows and doors will accelerate the fabric deterioration. Additionally, there will be slight differences in pattern alignment from the fabric on the rails to the fabric of the shade, which do not detract from the product’s appeal. Variations in colour and/or pattern irregularities are unique characteristics that contribute to the classic beauty of a shade.
