RADIOLOGY AND BIOMEDICAL IMAGING
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIASAN FRANCISCO
2
CARDIOVASCULAR & PULMONARY IMAGINGJanuary 27 – 29, 2013
This course is a comprehensive review of cross-sectional imaging of the chest, covering the pulmonary, vascular and cardiac systems. The course will be useful as a review of thoracic imaging, as well as a guide for radiologists hoping to expand their practice to new areas. It will provide an update on a variety of established clinical applications, but will also touch on newer, cutting-edge technologies such as cardiac CT. A practical approach to these areas of emerging technology will be presented so as to be useful to radiologists from all types of clinical practice. The course will feature focused, 20-minute lectures to allow for the inclusion of more topics and to maximize learning.
Earn SAM Credit An opportunity for completion of a Self-Assessment Module will be offered. “HRCT of the Lung” is pending approval by the American Board of Radiology for 1 SAM credit and for meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfi lling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certifi cation Program. SAM credits are required for radiologists certifi ed since 2002.
At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:1. Confi dently interpret high-resolution CT scans of the lungs and provide focused
differential diagnoses;2. Describe a practical approach to the imaging of lung infections and pleural
diseases;3. Recognize typical manifestations of acute and chronic aortic diseases;4. Describe the role of cross-sectional imaging in the evaluation of acquired heart
diseases;5. Discriminate benign vs. malignant lung nodules/masses on CT and PET;6. Understand the role of CT and PET in the evaluation and staging of lung cancer.

ABDOMINAL & PELVIC IMAGING: CT/MR/USJanuary 30 – February 1, 2013
Cholla Cactus
The goal of this course is to enhance the interpretation of body imaging studies and to improve clinical practice, by providing an updated review of state-of-the-art imaging methods and evidence-based practice in CT, MR and US imaging of the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. Addtionally, the corresponding ACR guidelines on managing incidental fi ndings in the kidney, adrenal, liver and pancreas on CT scans will be discussed.
Earn SAM Credit An opportunity for completion of a Self-Assessment Module (SAM) will be offered. “Appendicitis: Imaging Update” is pending approval by the American Board of Radiology for 1 SAM credit and for meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfi lling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certifi cation Program. SAM credits are required for radiologists certifi ed since 2002.
At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:1. Utilize the ACR recommendations for managing incidental fi ndings in the kidney,
liver, adrenal gland, and pancreas on CT scans;2. Identify indications for the use of different imaging modalities (CT/MRI/US) for
various abdomino-pelvic organs and conditions;3. Apply practical approaches to diagnosing both benign and malignant diseases of
the abdomen and pelvis;4. Anticipate potential pitfalls in abdomino-pelvic imaging and interpretation;5. Demonstrate improved ability to assess fetal abnormalities with ultrasound.

Featured Attraction:Sunnylands Center at the Annenberg Estatehttp://sunnylands.org
Nicknamed the “Camp David” of the west, Sunnylands was conceived by philanthropists Walter and Leonore Annenberg, who commissioned architect Quincy A. Jones of USC to build a contemporary residence on their 200-acre estate in Rancho Mirage.
The bright, open, inviting building that Jones created was then decorated by noted designers Haines and Graber. The Estate has been used as a retreat for world leaders, politicians and foreign dignitaries for over 40 years, and also hosts one of the fi nest private collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.
The Center is open free to the public Thursday through Sunday, and features select artwork and the Gardens. Tours of the home are limited and tickets can only be purchased in advance.
