Meet Joe.

Page 3: Carbage SiCamp June 09

He’s heard about carbon footprints, and climate change.

?

Page 4: Carbage SiCamp June 09

But he’s totally confused by conflicting info about all of this stuff.

?

Page 5: Carbage SiCamp June 09

So he flies RyanAir, eats loads of red meat and drives around all day long.

Page 6: Carbage SiCamp June 09

But it’s okay.

Page 7: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Because he unplugs his phone charger when he isn’t using it.

This story keeps happening across the country.

See the thing is, none of us want to actively screw up this planet.

But we can’t easily measure the effects of the steps we take.

So most of us either ignore the problem...

We need a way to know if what we’re doing is actually helping.

?

Page 14: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Or at least if we did better today than yesterday.

Page 15: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Make it feel like a game

Page 16: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Make it feel like a game

Page 17: Carbage SiCamp June 09

How do we do this?

Speed up feedback

Give ownership over carbon data

Make data portable and aggregate it

Page 18: Carbage SiCamp June 09

What we need for

this:

Smart meter

Wifi box in building

A phone or laptop for each person

Page 19: Carbage SiCamp June 09

The Uk government is putting

smart meters in

every house in the UK.

They can measure power every 6

seconds

Page 20: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Phone ownership in

UK is approaching

200%

Average of 2 phones

per personnow!

Page 21: Carbage SiCamp June 09

All phones and laptops have unique ID’s you can listen for on a wireless network.

Page 22: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Rough outline of

how it would work.

Wifi box detects Joe by his phone or laptop.

Wifi box talks to smart meter

Wifi box turns smart meter figure to Co2 figure

Wifi box shares data with Joe, while he is in the building

Page 23: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Sample scenario: Joe at work

Page 24: Carbage SiCamp June 09

At work Joe shares an office with two other people

24Kwhrecorded with

meter in office

Page 25: Carbage SiCamp June 09

So the power for

each person is about 8kwh.

24Kwhbetween3 people

Page 26: Carbage SiCamp June 09

We use AMEE

to convert this...

Today: 25kilos

CO2

per person

Page 27: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Joes switches off lights in a room they don’t use.

Yesterday:25 kg / person

Today: 20 kg / person

Page 28: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Joe and everyone

else see how much it saves.

Yesterday:25 kg / person

Today: 20 kg / person

Page 29: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Joe’s feeling awesome and green and all

empowered and stuff!

Page 30: Carbage SiCamp June 09

This works at home and

anywhere with wifi and smart meter

Page 31: Carbage SiCamp June 09

We suddenly have a

target to aim it!

Page 32: Carbage SiCamp June 09

He’s starting to...

take out the

carbage.

Page 33: Carbage SiCamp June 09

Please help us find a new name... (sorry)
