Instructions: Provide a large piece of blue material on the floor. Have thekids sit around this water.

How many of you have been in a boat before on the water? (You can sharea personal story of yourself here). One time, my family decided to gocanoeing. It was not very fun at all! I was afraid we were going to turn overand was quite miserable. Because of my misery, I did not make it much funfor my family. Maybe, if we had taken time to pray, we would have had anicer time. What do you think? (Allow them to share)

One day, Jesus decided to take some time to pray. He told his disciples toget into a boat and go out in to the water and cross to the others side of thelake.

Then, Jesus went to pray. (Fold hands in prayer)

While Jesus was praying, the disciples rowed and tried very hard to get theboat to the other side, but they were having a difficult time. The wind wasso hard and fierce. The waves were hugh and scary. The disciples did notknow what to do. No matter what they did, the boat would not row to theother side fast enough. The wind prevented this, working against theirrowing.

Jesus had finished praying and went to see his friend. Now, we know that

Jesus knew all along what was happening, and now he came to help themout. Jesus started walking on the water. That is right! He walked right ontop of the water, and did not even sink. When the disciples saw him, theycried out Its a ghost! Jesus saw their fear and knew they were reallyfrightened so he told them in a calm voice Dont be afraid! It is me Jesus. Now Peter found it difficult to believe that it was really Jesus walking on thewater. So he said, Jesus if it is really you, then tell me to walk on thewater, too. Jesus said to Peter, Come on out, Peter and walk on thewater.

Peter very carefully and cautiously stepped out of the boat and startedwalking toward Jesus. Now remember the wind was fierce, and the waveswere high. When Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began looking aroundhim, he became afraid and began to sink. Help,Jesus save me! he cried.

Jesus simply held out his hand and took Peter bringing him safely insidethe boat. When they go into the boat, the wind and waves became calm. All

the disciples were amazed at all this and said, This must be Jesus, theSon of God.

Jesus is an amazing person in our lives. When we pray and trust Him, hewill help us in everything we do no matter how big it may seem to us. Hewill hold our hands and walk with us through whatever we face in life. Weare not alone. He will give us peace through all the storms of life that wemay face.

Retell the story having the kids act out the parts. Assign the parts of Jesus,Peter, and a few disciples if you have enough kids to do this. If not, assignonly a part for Jesus and Peter. Read the story as they act out the parts.Provide costumes if available.

    Questions for Discussion

    1. In what ways will Jesus help us when we are afraid?2. What at some things that we can pray about for Gods help in our

lives?3. How does God give us His peace? (A good time to share the ABC

salvation message. A Admit you are a sinner in need of Godsforgiveness B believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins Cconfess your sins and ask Jesus to forgive you). This treasure inknowing Jesus will help us to live and grow to be more like him every

    day.

Allow all the children to find a golden coin in the sand box to take with themas a reminder of the treasure that we find in knowing Jesus as our personalSavior. They are to find this with their bare toes (no hands allowed) Watchthe fun!

parts the bread, jelly, and peanut butter. This is ONE sandwich as thetrinity is ONE yet made of three parts. The Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit.God sent his Son, Jesus to die for our sins. He died on the cross and shedHis blood so we can be forgiven for all our sins when we ask for thisforgiveness. When we belong to Jesus, he will give us courage to do theright thing. Underline the word Courage. Say, Courage is not theabsence of fear. Courage is doing what is right even when we are afraid ofwhat others will thing about us. We show bravery when we do what is right.Underline the word, afraid. To be fearful brings us troubled and anxiousthoughts. God does not want us to be afraid to do what is right. We mayfeel fearful but God will make us brave amidst that fear.

Say the verse all together. Erase one word, and say the verse again. Eraseanother word and say the verse all together. Repeat this action until all

words have been erased and the verse repeated many times.

Pass out Bibles. Model read of the verse for the kids. Read the versetogether. Ask for a volunteer to read to the class. Give each child a copy ofthe verse to take home. Play the following jeopardy game. See below for acopy to send home with them.

If it says one of the other words, they put it back on the quilt. If theysay the memory verse correctly, they get to fish through the treasure chestand find a prize to take home. You can keep the same squares to use overweekly. You may want to add all characters in the theme eventually.

    SMALL GROUP

Craft Fun Station (30 minutes) see web site for video instructions forthe sailboat

Make a ball using clay dough. Put a kabob stick in the dough. Allow toharden. Using construction paper cut out a sail and add to the kabob stick.Set the hardened dough or play dough inside of an aluminum pan usingglue to hold it in place.

    1. Mold your air dry clay into a small, even ball.

    2. Take your wooden skewer (your mast) and insert the flat end into the top of your clay ball. Press yourball into a pyramid shape around the skewer so that it will sit flatly in the bottom of your boat whileholding the skewer in place. Set it aside to dry.

    3. To make a sail, take your orange poster board and fold it in half to make two small rectangles. Cut theposter in two along the fold and use a ruler to draw two lines from the bottom corners of the rectangle tothe top center to make a triangle shape. Cut out this shape.

    4. Decorate your sail however you want using markers.

    5. Take your skewer and poke it through your sail about and inch from the bottom in the center. Slide thesail down the skewer and then poke it back through the sail at the top point.

    6. With the sail and mast now in place, glue your clay base into the center of your tin foil tray. Let it dry for 1to 2 hours. Then youll be ready to set sail! http://www.activitytv.com/688-tin-foil-boat
