PROJECT UNDERSTANDING

PARTNERING FOR GREAT SCHOOLS & GREAT COMMUNITIES

SSP understands that the scope of this project is to design a replacement structure for the existing Lodi Board of Education administrative offi ces, currently housed in the Lincoln School building. This proposed new structure shall replace the existing 19,000 square foot Lincoln School and house approximately 24 occupants across the district’s central offi ces, including the Superintendent’s offi ce, Business offi ce, Child Study Team, District Supervisors, and District IT staff.

Planning for a replacement structure requires not only attention to design and feasibility, but also a careful examination of phasing, staging, and timeliness. SSP Architectural Group is ready to undertake the assignment of this contract, and carry out the required tasks, in a timely and effi cient fashion. Your Principal in Charge, Scott Mihalick, will be directly involved in overseeing the project from conception to completion. Starting with the project’s initial programming, through concept development, bid document assembly, construction administration, and ultimately project closeout, Mr. Mihalick and his team will remain your dedicated partners, always available to discuss any questions or concerns that may arise throughout the process.

It should be noted that design solutions have purposefully not been incorporated within this proposal. At SSP, we feel that our longstanding history of satisfi ed clients can better tell the story of our design excellence, instead of attempting to provide a design solution without having the critical input of the end users.

Throughout the process, SSP is ready to work with the Lodi Board of Education to meet your scheduling and budget goals. Though our process is comprehensive by nature, we are ready and able to compress the timing of the process as may be required in order to meet your schedule. As your partner, SSP provides architectural and engineering expertise, while working together with you to achieve your goals.

PLANNING/PROGRAMMING/SPACE NEEDS ANALYSIS

Applying the knowledge, experience and best practices of facility planning, SSP will commence work by conducting planning sessions with the Lodi Board of Education district Administration. These sessions will be focused on establishing the framework for the project. In addition to reviewing typical new construction items such as space adjacencies, access, and room layouts, a particular focus will be placed on the implementation of the work. Understanding that the existing structure must be removed before new construction can start, SSP will work with you to consider alternate temporary arrangements so that the building occupants are as minimally disrupted as possible.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN

Once a building program has been decided, SSP will begin the interactive process of developing schematic design concepts. These initial concepts will be reviewed in person with the Administration for feedback; followed by a subsequent series of meetings where SSP’s quick turnaround of modifi ed and/or additional design concepts will advance the concept.

In addition, SSP will begin exploring the impact of implementation of the schematic design options. We will research and bring to the table available options, potentially including off-site (modular) construction, different construction methods, and other similar ideas that may help reduce the construction duration, project cost, or potentially both. Not only does the new building need to be constructed, but the timing and coordination of the existing building’s demolition must be sequenced and overseen.

At the completion of the schematic design phase, the Administration will have a building layout, phasing concepts, and a project budget, together which will provide the design parameters moving forward.

PROJECT APPROACH

SUSTAINABLE SCHOOLS & HIGH PERFORMANCE DESIGN

Using the criteria of the US Green Building Council’s LEED program, SSP can recommend and integrate into your designs the tenets of sensible, sustainable design that combine with building system technologies to allow facilities to operate at peak efficiency and create an environment to maximize student potential.

Approach_LODI_Design_Services_K12.indd 2 10/19/2015 4:33:05 PM

INTERIOR DESIGN SERVICES

From initial selection of fi nishes to coordinating the purchase and installation of furniture, SSP is also capable of providing a full range of interior design services in addition to our base scope of architectural and engineering services encompassed in this proposal. These interior design services include selection of fi nishes and furniture - integrated with the space design, operation and maintenance goals; research to select furnishings according to price, function and availability; presentation of fi nish and furniture options; coordination of furniture purchase; and oversight of installation.

A NOTE ABOUT ENGINEERING SERVICES

Included in our scope of services is the engagement of consulting engineers to design the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and civil/site components of the project. Due to the relatively small available site, the integration of the demolition, new construction, and site development activities must be closely coordinated and reviewed with not only the Board of Education Administration and your team of other independent professionals (legal counsel, bond counsel, fi nancial services, asbestos/hazardous material consultants, etc.) but also with the Borough, including such elements as grading, stormwater management, parking lot access and layout, fencing and site development, etc.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION

Once a project is ready for advancement, SSP Architectural Group, together with our engineering partners, will provide architectural and engineering design services to develop initial design concepts, provide documentation to NJDOE, advance the project through construction documents, and prepare for public bidding. Services also include close interaction with regulatory agencies to assure compliance with local and state code requirements.

PROJECT APPROACH

Sensitive sustainable design has always been a core element

of SSP’s design philosophy. We believe that by its nature, a

sustainable approach means considering the whole life cycle of a

project which will therefore improve the functionality, quality, human

productivity and enjoyment and, in the long term, bring social and

economic benefi ts. Therefore, we take a pragmatic, fl exible and

sustainable approach to maximize the potential of every space

and will integrate sustainable, “green” design into your project.

QUALITY CONTROL

At SSP, quality control is more than a ne-time review at the end of construction documents. It starts with the people with experience working on the specifi ed projects – who know the issues to anticipate and document - and an understanding of what is being drawn – beyond lines on paper. The culture of learning, mentoring and exposure to actual fi eld conditions is infused into the project team. It continues with the strategic use of partners, contractors, consultants, and regulatory representatives to make sure the scope of the work is clearly communicated, code compliant and constructible. Finally, a thorough independent review is completed in-house to make sure the construction documents include the approved scope of work and have minimal confl icts.

BIDDING AND CONTRACT AWARD

To provide a smooth bidding process for the Lodi Board of Education, we craft our documents to address the unique conditions that exist in the public sector, where SSP has extensive knowledge of the public bidding regulations. During bidding, we will assist with advertising for bid, conduct the pre-bid conferences, issue any addenda or clarifi cations, respond to requests for information, assist with the bid opening, analyze bids and make recommendations for contract award.

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION

During construction, our experienced Construction Administrators will extend their knowledge of the project to the activities in the construction fi eld, providing a vital link between the District and the construction work on site. An architect’s involvement providing necessary professional administration during the construction process results in buildings that meet the project’s design intent, meet code requirements that were specifi ed in the documents, meet the project schedule and support the project’s overall success.

Our team members know that keeping a project on time and on budget through the construction process requires good communication, clear procedures, and responsiveness. SSP’s construction administration services begin with a pre- construction meeting where expectations and responsibilities are clearly defi ned. SSP recognizes that a key factor in a successful construction project is proactively addressing issues BEFORE they become RFIs or change orders. In addition to conducting regular project meetings, our staff is dedicated to the effi cient processing of shop drawings, promptly addressing issues that may arise in the fi eld, and processing RFIs rapidly to ensure that our projects remain on schedule and within budget.

Ultimately our goals during the construction phase are to oversee the work so that surprises to the Board of Education are minimized, the contractor’s work proceeds effi ciently, and the contractors remain on task to meet their completion and milestone dates. Due to the rapid responses required during new construction projects, the Lodi Board of Education Administration will have cell phone numbers of your SSP team members, such that all phone calls, emails, or other outreaches will be responded to within 24 hours or less.

PROJECT CLOSEOUT

The SSP Team will provide post-construction follow-up for projects including punch list and closeout services, assistance with troubleshooting start-up, and an 11-month walk through and check. This inspection ensures warranty items perform in accordance with contract documents and to ensure that all systems function as designed, and that the Board of Education is satisfi ed with our efforts.

Lodi Board of Education: Capital ImprovementsSSP and the Lodi School District have worked together for almost 20 years, assisting them with the implementation of over 75 projects. Projects have included additions at all seven District schools, as well as a series of capital upgrades, ranging from the recent comprehensive heating upgrade at the Middle School, to roof and window replacements, to interior renovations throughout the District.

Asbury Park School DistrictMost recently, SSP collaborated with the district to revise and update its Long Range Facility Plan. With needs less related to enrollment increases, the focus has been on interior renovations to improve educational spaces, capital improvements, and infrastructure upgrades. SSP has been working closely with the district administration to develop a plan that refl ects the educational needs of the students, while simultaneously encompassing the requisite capital improvements. SSP has also introduced the concept of advancing energy savings projects through the state’s ESIP guidelines, as well as provided several studies and reports focused on IT/infrastructure and roofi ng.

SSP worked with Asbury Park in the late 1990s and early 2000s to develop their Long Range Facilities Plan. Working closely with the district, several needs were identifi ed, including the potential for expansion at the

Bradley Elementary School site.

SSP subsequently designed the 33,000 square foot addition, which also renovated 13,000 square feet, and added new classrooms, science labs, and a new multi-purpose room. The small 1.5 acre site proved challenging, as it was not only small, but landlocked by roadways on three sides. Careful planning and phasing allowed for the two new wings to be constructed with minimal impact.

Atlantic HighlandsSSP has been collaborating with the Atlantic Highlands Board of Education for several years, on multiple projects. Work has included interior renovations to accommodate the school’s kindergarten program, schematic design for the

alterations of the building’s entry and main offi ce, and reconstruction of one of the two primary exterior stairways. SSP has also provided assistance to the Board on projects that it was undertaking on their own, including a beautifi cation initiative at the school’s front yard, and an environmental cleanup overseen by a neighboring property owner.

SSP also designed a 49 kW rooftop solar system installed in 2010. This system was funded through a public referendum, and received $22,500 in clean energy rebates. The system, with a projected nine year payback, was installed through a design/bid/build delivery method. It is fully owned by the Board of Education, so that the Board is able to realize 100% of the fi scal and energy savings benefi ts without being locked into a lease with a third party.

Henry Hudson School DistrictSSP Architectural Group has been working with the Henry Hudson Regional School District on a variety of projects over the last several years. Working with the Board and administration, SSP was able to secure ROD grants for two roofi ng replacement projects and a main entrance security renovation. The fi rst phase of the roofi ng work has been completed, with the second phase scheduled to be implemented during the summer of 2016. Additionally, SSP has provided facilities guidance for exterior masonry issues, science room renovations, and offi ce reconfi gurations.

Frenchtown School District, Frenchtown, NJFrenchtown Elementary School

SSP worked with the Frenchtown School District in the development of long range facilities plan (LRFP). As an outgrowth of the LRFP, work with the Board, administration, and community groups to develop a list of high-priority capital improvement projects which were submitted and ROD grants were secured for the work. SSP provided support throughout the referendum process and provided design and oversight of the resulting successful capital improvements such as toilet room renovations, roof replacement, window replacement, boiler replacement, gymnasium fl oor replacement dividing wall replacement, kiln installation.

Tinton Falls School District, Tinton Falls, NJTinton Falls MS, Mahala F. Atchison ES, Swimming River ES, Administration Building

SSP worked with the District in the development of long range facilities plan in 2000 and 2005; pre-referendum support for 2001 referendum to expand the Middle School, and 2010 referendum to provide needed capital improvements. SSP provided design and implementation os various capital improvements, including roofi ng replacement, door replacement, boiler replacement / HVAC upgrades, sitework / paving, ceiling/lighting replacement, electrical upgrades, generator installation, security upgrades (CCTV installation) and an addition to Tinton Falls Middle School, consisting of fi ve classrooms and a new gymnasium.

Milford School District, Milford, NJDistrictwide Renovations, Pre-Referendum Planning and Design

SSP worked with the Milford Board of Education in Hunterdon County to determine the proper course of action to improve its century old elementary school facility. Dealing with reduced budgets, the plan that developed addressed the school’s most pressing needs, to be implemented over a three-year phased plan. Work included the replacement of the electrical system, addition of an intercom and security system, new roof, and door and window replacements.

Pequannock School District: Media Center and RenovationsSSP worked with the District to develop their 2005 LRFP. Work continued with referendum planning for capital upgrades at the High School and Middle School. SSP oversaw the design and construction administration of this work, which included electrical upgrades, renovations to auditorium, music room, media center and gymnasium, tele/data at all district schools, HVAC upgrades, and window replacement.

Franklin Township School District: Facilities Master Planning, New Design, Additions and RenovationsSSP worked closely with the Franklin Board of Education to create a comprehensive Long Range Facilities Master Plan, which was used as a roadmap for facilities-related decision making. This planning process encompassed not only the

Board and Administration, but key community stakeholders, citizens’ groups, and members of the local governing body. The results of this process gave rise to the development of a district-wide grade reconfi guration program, which was the primary focus of an $84M referendum which was approved by voters in 2014. SSP is working closely with the district on designs for a new elementary school, expansion and modifi cations to the two middle schools, and multiple capital upgrades. Concurrent with the referendum planning, SSP developed and implemented a $7M energy savings project utilizing the state’s ESIP guidelines; this project replaced over 40 boilers and replaced or retrofi tted lighting district-wide, all paid for solely from the energy savings generated by the work.

Pascack Valley Regional High School District: Pre-Referendum Services and Construction DocumentsAs a joint venture with another fi rm, SSP worked to develop a referendum plan to expand and renovate both of the District’s high schools. SSP took the lead in the construction documents for the addition at Pascack Valley High School, which included new construction of science, physical education and auditorium facilities.

Freehold Regional High School District: Renovations & Additions at Six High SchoolsSSP provided professional services for six high school additions to accommodate a projected enrollment increase of more than 2,000 students over fi ve years. Additions were structured to support the District’s educational programs and technology objectives, and to improve the District’s existing high school facilities. Mr. Mihalick was the project manager for two of these projects.

Kenilworth School District: Districtwide Renovations and Capital ImprovementsSSP has worked with the Kenilworth Board of Education for more than ten years developing the District’s Long Range Facility Plans, pre-referendum planning, design and construction for capital work. SSP developed the District’s 2000 and 2005 LRFPs, and developed a referendum package to distill their needs into a comprehensive capital upgrade initiative. Full design and construction services for this capital work was undertaken, including: locker room and classroom renovations, electrical upgrades, mechanical upgrades, offi ce renovation, roofi ng, sitework, physical education addition, and window replacement. SSP is also working with the District to prepare a solar energy PPA Request for Proposal.

Middlesex County Vocational & Technical School District: Renovations and Capital ImprovementsServing students in all aspects of vocational and technical education, the district operates fi ve campuses throughout the county. SSP worked with the district to overhaul the 1939 building through a multi-phase renovation process, replacing the mechanical system, lighting, roofi ng, renovating key interior spaces, and constructing two additions. Work in the 1970s buildings has encompassed a similar scope, and has allowed for the implementation of new programs such as the East Brunswick Green Lab, a Mechatronics Lab, and the rollout of the Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences. SSP works closely with the district to plan their annual facilities improvement workload, and implements a series of renovation and capital projects each year. Total work completed to date has exceeded $15M; upcoming work includes a $10M ESIP project at the two 1970s campuses.

Sussex County Technical SchoolSSP was retained by the Sussex County Vocational Technical School to provide Architect of Record services for a variety of capital improvements and educational renovation projects. Four critical capital projects, requiring a quick turnaround involving facilities structural and electrical systems, and roof leakage, were assigned to SSP. SSP has worked closely with the Administration and Board of Education to determine project scope of work and coordinate efforts with engineering subconsultants to expeditiously provide design services for a quick construction turnaround.

Somerset County Vocational Technical School District: Additions, Renovations and AlterationsSSP provided services for several signifi cant projects with the District. These included the expansion of the Performing Arts Center, which has an outdoor performance plaza, a landscaped lawn amphitheater for public performances, and a student plaza that provides the campus with an exterior focus and gathering space for students and visitors. In addition, SSP provided oversight for the renovation of a portion of the existing cafeteria into an intimate, upscale restaurant to support the Culinary Arts program. Currently, SSP is completing construction administration services for the comprehensive renovation of the Performing Arts Auditorium.

Working closely with the district, several needs were identifi ed, including the potential for expansion at the Bradley Elementary School site.

Fort Lee Board of EducationDistrict Wide Facility Planning and Design

In 2008, Fort Lee Board of Education was faced with increased town-wide development leading to a surge in their K-12 population. Combined with six facilities with no new educational space since the 1970s, the Board had signifi cant pent-up needs. SSP worked with the Board and Administration and several community groups to develop a long-range plan that would add capacity to the district and address their aging infrastructure. The multi-phased rollout of this plan included two successful bond referenda, totaling nearly $80M and adding 130,000 square feet of educational space at two sites; critical capital projects focusing on building envelope improvements such as roofi ng, windows, doors, and masonry; interior renovations; and a $5M energy project that paid for itself through its energy savings measures.

Franklin Township School DistrictFacilities Master Planning, New Design, Additions and Renovations

SSP worked closely with the Franklin BOE to create a Long Range Facilities Master Plan. This planning process encompassed the Board and Administration, key community stakeholders, citizens’ groups, and members of the local governing body. The results gave rise to the development of a district-wide grade reconfi guration program, which was the primary focus of an $84M referendum approved in 2014.

Neptune Township Board of Education: Districtwide Renovations, Additions, New Facility and New Design/Build FacilityAs one of New Jersey’s “Abbott” Districts, designated for 100% funding under the Educational Facilities Financing Act, the Neptune Township Board of Education undertook a comprehensive program of renovations and additions throughout its six elementary and middle schools, as well as the addition of a pre-K - 5th grade new facility. Ms. Perantoni spearheaded the effort of planning and design throughout the District, a key component of which was developing the District’s educational specifi cations, with an eye towards creating parity among all schools and the integration of cutting edge LEED sustainable design technologies. One facility, the Summerfi eld Elementary School, gained particular attention as the State’s fi rst design/build educational project, and marked a pioneering effort in terms of developing educational performance specifi cations for future design by a design/build team. an expansion plan for this iconic community focal point. The study sought to create options for maintaining the historic, iconic status of the Ridge Street School, while simultaneously addressing the facility’s functionality, systems, and code defi ciencies.

Pequannock Township Board of Education: Renovations and AdditionsAs Principal in Charge, Ms. Perantoni worked on a variety of projects over the last twenty years including additions and renovations to each of the District’s fi ve schools. She also led the 2000 Long Range Facilities Plan and 2005 Update. Work has included interior renovations, window replacements, HVAC and electrical upgrades, an auditorium refurbishment, sitework, and infrastructure improvements.

Buckingham Friends School: Facilities Assessment and Campus Master Plan 2009-2019The creation of a campus Master Plan by SSP provides the vision for the future use of the land and property resources of BFS, and guides campus improvement and development decisions on an ongoing basis. Projects arising from the plan have included a 3,000 s.f. Lower School expansion; athletics fi elds development on leased space adjacent to the campus at neighboring commercial retail space; and updated entryway and dropoff areas to provide a more naturalized landscape area as well as the creation of a stronger pedestrian thoroughfare.

Greenwich Elementary School: New Design and IN-Flight Addition ProjectUnder the direction of Ms. Perantoni as Principal in Charge, SSP designed new 60,000 s.f. K-2 elementary school contains a large multi-purpose room, kitchen, stage, media center, computer lab, small group instruction rooms, nurse’s suite, offi ces and 21 academic classrooms. SSP also developed an IN-Flight addition (starting the construction of the additional rooms even before the entire initial school design had been completed or occupied), consisted of 24,000 s.f. to include a large cafeteria as well as an additional 12 classrooms and 2 small group rooms.

Bridgewater-Raritan School District: Middle School Renovations and Additions and High School Campus Master Planning Led planning effort to examine District educational objectives in the face of a growing population. Key to the effort was the integration of a disparate series of campus facilities into a cohesive plan, via key additions creating functional relationships between facilities, the creation of a 2,000 seat gymnasium to house the District’s prominent athletics programs, and the development of a loop road encircling the campus. The result was a more functional and educationally sound high school for the district’s 2,000 students.

SSP Architectural Group is fortunate to have collaborated with the Lodi Public School District on over ninety distinct capital improvement and addition projects over the last twenty years. Our long relationship has allowed us to work in partnership with the District, planning for ongoing needs from infrastructure upgrades to interior renovations.

With its oldest active school building dating back to 1914, and four buildings constructed prior to 1933, the District continually faces challenges in keeping these facilities operable, sound, and effi cient. Work has been planned and phased over multiple years as required to meet the District’s fi scal constraints.

Such improvements over the years have included window replacements, HVAC upgrades, roofi ng and waterproofi ng, door replacements, fi re safety improvements, ceiling and lighting upgrades, bleacher replacements, and toilet room renovations.

Additionally, a series of new construction projects were identifi ed, planned, designed and implemented to accommodate early childhood programs, enrollment increases, barrier-free accessibility, and provide core spaces at some of the District’s smaller neighborhood elementary schools.

These needs resulted in additions at all seven of the District’s schools, along with interior renovations to create additional classrooms, small group instruction, and media centers from previously under-utilized spaces.

The Fort Lee Board of Education, located in Northern New Jersey proximate to the George Washington Bridge, serves over 3,600 students in grades Pre-K through 12. SSP is currently working with the District to develop and implement a phased plan of capital improvements, additions and renovations via two (2) bond referendum projects.

A densely populated and diverse community, Fort Lee has a long history of crowded facilities challenged by limited area for expansion. Key to SSP’s planning and design is a pragmatic approach to accommodating the K-12 student body in the best possible school facilities with parity among schools throughout their educational experience.

Current plans defi ne signifi cant renovations and additions to meet the District’s challenges while incorporating State grant funding to reduce local costs.

The Fort Lee School District, located in Northern New Jersey serves over 3,600 students in grades Pre-K through 12. A densely populated and diverse community, Fort Lee has a long history of crowded facilities challenged by limited area for expansion. SSP has worked with the BOE to plan, design and implement a phased plan of capital improvements, additions and renovations district-wide. SSP determined that the key to the relief of space for the District can be accomplished through space reallocation and additions. The plan developed in 2013 included the construction of an addition to the Lewis Cole Middle School.

A critical element to the Lewis Cole Middle School addition is the integration of a new Media Center within it. Sized at approximately 2,500 s.f., the new Media Center advances the District’s provision of vital library and media services to its student population to 21st Century Standards. The Media Center enjoys a centralized location for student and staff use as well as an enhanced technology offering. The Media Center is located in an opened area adjacent to corridors, which allows for an expansive feel and allows for multiple access and a variety of usage. Moreover, the Center takes advantage of an adjoining courtyard, allowing for of spaces for quiet study and recreation.

The Jersey City School District is currently in construction phase for a replacement school for P.S. 20, to form a new model community school for the District. Administered by the New Jersey Schools Development Authority, the scope of work undertaken by the team includes adherence to district educational goals and objectives in facility design.

A dedicated academic classroom wing allows for separation of students based upon respective grade levels yet sharing of common, core facility space and functions. It is balanced by shared-use community space positioned in a manner allowing ready access from community-facing entries but allowing separation from the academic portions of the school in order to avoid inappropriate crosstraffi c confl icts between students and visiting adults.

The overall design is responsive to the environmental site constraints within Jersey City, and addresses appropriate facility placement given the signifi cant environmental concerns and conditions of the property. The resulting 106,000 s.f. facility design offers Jersey City a solution for urban neighborhood school development.

In addition to designing educational facilities, SSP has been called upon by many school districts to assist in designing and overseeing the space planning, relocation and renovation of several district administrative offi ce spaces. SSP has extensive experience meeting the unique demands of a school district requires of their offi ce space, community space, and support space.

PEQUANNOCK BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Pequannock Board of Education entered into an agreement with the township to convert the second fl oor of a township owned building into offi ce space to house the central administrative offi ces. SSP provided layout options and construction documents for the conversion, with the renovation work completed in-house by Board of Education and township staff. This relocation allowed for the former offi ce space at the High School to be converted to much-needed classroom space.

HOLMDEL BOARD OF EDUCATION

Facing declining enrollment at one of their elementary schools, the Board of Education commissioned SSP to renovate four classrooms into offi ce space. The work, which was performed by a combination of contractors and in-house staff, allowed for the full district administration to eliminate their monthly lease payment for offi ce space, while simultaneously moving the administration back into a school building. The end result was a fully functional offi ce suite, including expanded meeting and conference space, all with a separate exterior entrance to avoid increasing public traffi c through the school’s main offi ce.

KENILWORTH BOARD OF EDUCATION

The central administration offi ces, long housed at the district’s elementary school, were relocated to a new space via renovation of a former wood shop. This shop area, which had long been unused for educational purposes, was converted into offi ce space, allowing for the former Superintendent’s offi ces and support spaces to be converted into a combination of educational space and guidance offi ces.

BEDMINSTER BOARD OF EDUCATION

SSP provided several schematic options for reconfi guring the school’s central offi ces, consisting of the Superintendent’s and Business Administrator’s offi ces, as well as their support staff. Ultimately SSP was able to develop a plan that was implemented without requiring construction, instead focusing on a change in the space allocation and interior layout of furniture.

RIVER DELL REGIONAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION

Facing an increasing enrollment at the High School requiring a signifi cant addition to be constructed, the central offi ces were relocated out of the High School and into space at the Middle School which had formerly been leased to an outside agency. This reclamation of space allowed the High School to expand its program offerings and convert the former offi ce space into a technology education hub, and provided new administrative offi ces with a dedicated separate entrance at the Middle School site. A full renovation project was undertaken to convert four classrooms into a series of offi ce and meeting rooms, with work phased to precede the High School’s expansion project.

FORT LEE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Enrollment at each of the schools in Fort Lee has been steadily increasing, necessitating several new construction projects. In addition, it was determined that the Board of Education offi ces needed to be relocated off-site, allowing for renovation of the former offi ce space into a pre-kindergarten center. SSP worked with the Board of Education to move into a leased offi ce, renovating the former offi ce space into much-needed classrooms.

ROXBURY BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Roxbury Board of Education offi ces had historically been housed in a small off-campus building. SSP assisted the Board with the conversion of one of the district’s former and unused small schoolhouses into offi ce space, housing the district’s central offi ces and support staff. A full renovation was undertaken, converting the six-classroom building into offi ce and conference space.

The Bayonne Midtown Community School is a “Blue Ribbon” school nationally recognized as a model of community school design principles. The 170,000 s.f. facility features several innovative design ideas for both students and the neighborhood the school serves. It was designed to implement signifi cant District advances in technology, adaptability and durability.

The building accommodates 1,200 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade and it was the fi rst elementary school in New Jersey equipped with broadband access in every classroom, and was fully air conditioned to allow for year-round use. Placed on a compact urban site, parking is provided in a pillared underground space situated below the building’s fi rst fl oor.

Learning spaces include computer and wet science laboratories, a technologically and acoustically sophisticated music room, and a gallery/reading space set over and around the school’s entrance atrium.

The Pascack Valley Regional High School District has completed renovation and upgrades of the District’s two high schools. As with many of New Jersey’s other school districts, Pascack Valley has experienced a surge in enrollment, and anticipated continued growth of up to 100 students annually for the coming decade.

SSP fi rst reviewed the existing conditions of the district’s educational facilities, then developed a program to support Pascack’s goals to deliver technologically advanced and adaptable teaching environments, modernize all facility infrastructure and increase traffi c fl ow and parking areas.

Key to the upgrade was the design of the District’s “Learning Clusters.” These included dedicated spaces for science, math and technology, library and media center, student services, the arts, the humanities, and physical education.

SSP and the Chester Schools Board of Education have collaborated since January of 2004 on the development of a master plan for the improvement of the District’s two elementary schools and middle school. SSP developed designs to address overcrowding and aging infrastructure in the neighboring Dickerson and Bragg Elementary Schools as well as improvements to the Black River Middle School. The overall construction value of the projects total $22.7 million, and includes an additional 45,000 square feet and over 35,000 square feet of renovated space for added classrooms, that replace substandard spaces and enable the District to enhance program delivery through improvement of specialized spaces.

A key project within the referendum scope of work was a comprehensive media center renovation at the Dickerson School. The 1,675 square foot center now contains expanded stacks, computer/media and presentation areas, and areas for study and class work.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter to highly recommend SSP as your Architect of Record for

any future projects you may have in the future. They have done a terrific job with

numerous projects at Milford school including a Million dollar electrical and alarm

system project school wide to a new security entrance for the building. They have great

contacts on the state level and are able to manage approvals and obtain permits in a

timely manner. Feel free to visit our district and see our new gym floor which they

designed as well as all new windows and roof we were able to obtain via ROD grants.

Scott Mihalick and the entire SSP staff are great people and respond quickly to

any concerns that may arise. Milford Public School District highly recommends SSP.

Feel free to call me to further discuss the fine work this excellent firm has done at

our school.

Sincerely,

Mr. Edward Stoloski

To Whom It May Concern,

I am pleased to provide this letter of reference for S.S.P. Architects.

Our district has been working with S.S.P. since 2007. The firm has

successfully guided us through numerous construction projects which included

several roof replacements, HVAC and boiler replacements, repaving projects,

classroom renovations for Kindergarten classes and window replacements. This

summer they will be working with us on projects that include the installation

of security cameras and wireless access points at all four schools and the

renovation of science classrooms in our middle school. The estimates

provided by S.S.P. have enabled us to complete projects with sufficient

funding in place. They have worked closely with both myself, the

superintendent and our facilities manager developing project plans,

conducting our construction meetings and oversight during the construction of

our projects. They have a thorough knowledge of state ROD grant requirements

and have assisted us with updating our long range facilities plans.

We have been very pleased with S.S.P.’s presentations at board meetings and

their interactions with us throughout all phases of construction. The firm’s

representatives address questions from board members, administration and the

public in a concise, knowledgeable and professional manner. They have often

worked successfully with tight deadlines and are very accessible for

consultations.

The Readington School District has continued to use the services of S.S.P.

due to their reliability and the quality of their work and we look forward to

working with them on future projects.

Sincerely,

Steffi-Jo De Casas
