    Chapter 1 Overview

    1.1 Overview

SANscreen Enterprise Reporting for Capacity Manager provides you

with the ability to view summary reports and to generate ad hoc

customized reports based on the summary data that appear in

reporting snapshots, lists and graphs available on the SANscreen

    Reporting Connection dashboards, including:

    CM Capacity Forecast

    CM _ Cost Accounting

    CM Tiers

    CM Port Forecast

    Violations

You can create new reports at any time with refreshed data andpublish them to other users. No special system build or system reboot

is necessary. The ad hoc reporting capabilities let you filter,

summarize and edit existing capacity reports.

NOTE: Access to the SANscreen Reporting Connection is defined by roles,

which are explained in that user guide.

The data for these reports are built and scheduled from the

SANscreen Data Warehouse. See the SANscreen Data Warehouse

User Guide and the dynamic DB Schema on the Data Warehouseportal for more information.

    2.2 Capacity Consumption Forecast

This dashboard portlet presents in months the estimated time you will

run out of storage for a specific tier and data center combination.

The dashboard shows at a glance where there are potentially

problematic areas. When there are fewer than four months remaining,

the intersection of the tier and data center is shaded in red, signaling

    a need for attention.

NOTE: Clicking on any part of the charttier, data center, or value

automatically refreshes the rest of the dashboard portlets to match

the outcome signaled by that attribute or intersection.

    2.2.1 Using Colors

Colors are indicators for the thresholds and can be finely granulated.

For positive far intersection, use 99. For negative slope, use 99.1.

For example, you can set the thresholds as follows (in months):

  • 8/3/2019 Capacity Manager Report Cap

    21/93

Note that 99.1 is white with grayed- out text.

    2.3 Storage Capacity Trend

Observe the dashboard when you make a change to any element in

the Capacity Consumption Forecast portlet described in section 2.2.

Changes immediately affect the data shown in the Storage Capacity

    Trend portlet.

This line graph shows the capacity planning report for the entire

organization, including all tiers and all data centers This graph gives

you visibility into past trends and can serve as a basis for a futureforecast of capacity thresholds:

    2.4 Storage Utilization

This dashboard report helps you understand how resource allocation

is being used. It shows two dials per data center:

Storage Utilization by Data Center = the percent of allocated

    capacity vs. available capacity.

Global Storage Utilization = the total percent for the entire

environment (an aggregate all data centers).

The dial pointer indicates a safe level of capacity allocation in green.

Resource problems exist when the dial points to yellow or red (see

    also section 2.2.1):

    Chapter 8 CM Port ForecastDashboard

The CM - Port Forecast dashboard enables you to generate and

review the detailed switch port capacity planning reports in the data

centersaccording to vendor and speedthat will run out in the near

future. Using this dashboard, you can:

Estimate what type of port capacity is needed, indicating

whether the organization is about to run out of ports of acertain speed or from a certain vendor.

Determine in what location this capacity is needed.

Estimate the optimal time to purchase that capacity andmake it available.

    8.1 Viewing the Dashboard

Click on the CM - Port Forecast tab at the top of the SANscreenReporting window to get the following view:

The rest of this chapter explains the different sections of the

    dashboard.

    8.2 Port Consumption Forecast

With this report you are able to monitor storage resources

consumption to ensure that your organization is on track as planned.

The report helps you determine where and when current port usage

trends will negatively impact resource availability. Areas shaded in

red indicate less than four months of capacity resources remain:

Click on a link in any column or row in the table. The Switch Port

Capacity Planning by Timeframe [Usable Capacity] report opens.

If you click on a vendor, then the report shows only that

    vendor and all port speeds.

If you click on a port speed, the report will show all vendorsand only that port speed.

If you click on the number, the report will only show that

    vendor and that port speed.

This report provides a forecast of future port consumption by data

center, switch vendor and port speed to determine when additional

    ports are needed:

    8.2.1 Using Colors

Colors are indicators for the thresholds and can be finely granulated.

For positive far intersection, use 99. For negative slope, use 99.1.

For example, you can set the thresholds as follows (in months):

Note that 99.1 is white with grayed out text.

    8.4 Port Usage Trends

Observe the dashboard when you make a change to any element in

the Port Consumption Forecast portlet described in section 8.2.

Changes immediately affect the data shown in the Port Usage Trends

    portlet.

This line graph shows the port capacity planning report for the entire

organization, including all tiers and all data centers This graph gives

you visibility into past trends and can serve as a basis for a futureforecast of port capacity thresholds:

NOTE: For all trend charts, if there is no data for the corresponding date (for

example if you select End of Quarter and have no DWH data for that

particular date) the chart will be missing that data point.

    8.4 Port Utilization

This dashboard report helps you understand how resource allocation

is being used. It shows two dials per data center:

Port Utilization by Data Center = the percent of allocated

    capacity vs. available capacity.

Global Port Utilization = the total percent for the entire

environment (an aggregate all data centers).

The dial pointer indicates a safe level of capacity allocation in green.

Resource problems exist when the dial points to yellow or red (see

    also section 8.2.1):

8.3 Ports by Data Center, Vendor
