Page 1 Canterbury Woods Newsletter November 2017 A Message from Management On behalf of the entire staff at Canterbury Woods Country Club, I would like to thank all our members and guests for another great golf season. We had many fun member events throughout the summer and we appreciate everyone’s participation and support for these events. Congratulations to all our tournament winners and to all those golfers who made a hole-in-one during the year! I want to thank everyone for your patience as we continue to make some significant improvements to the course over the next few months. In addition to the work being done on holes 8, 9 and 4 and the tee box improvements on 3 (as noted in Walter’s column), we are also expanding the retention pond on the right side of the entrance roadway to increase water storage and insure adequate water supplies during dry spells. Your willingness to avoid the work areas during your play is much appreciated. Thank you also for respecting the frost delay signs that are becoming more frequent as the weather turns cooler All of your efforts, along with the ongoing course improvements, go a long way in helping Steve and his crew keep the course in superb condition throughout the season. As we prepare to close the course for the winter, I encourage you to take advantage of the indoor golf simulators at Pembroke Pines Country Club to stay in ”golf” shape until next spring. There are many opportunities to join morning and evening leagues, or you can just sign up to play a round on your own. The “course” choices are many and varied! Call the Pro Shop at 210- 1365 for information and tee times. I want to remind everyone that gift certificates are available to purchase in the Pro Shop. These can be specified for any amount and would make great holiday gifts for your golfing friends! (Continued on Page 2) Pro’s Corner and Final Thoughts Walter Reeves, CWCC Head Golf Professional Where did the season go?! It’s hard to believe that the 2017 golf year has nearly come to a close! But nearly does not mean over and there are still some good golf rounds out there! Our last event of the season is the famous Turkey Shoot, which was held on November 4 this year. As always, this was a fun event for all participants and there were some interesting teams! Congratulations to 1 st place winners John Natti, Kim Hillson, and Jim and Julie Craig. Significant course improvements continue this month. Trees have been taken down between holes 8 and 9 in order to get more sun and better airflow on #8 green. The right side of hole #9 will be filled in to decrease the potential for lost balls and make the hole more playable. Trees on the right side of #4 fairway will be removed to make approach to the green from the right side more user- friendly. The #3 white tee box will be enlarged to give shorter hitters the opportunity to reach the green in 2. These and other improvements are being made to insure the golfing experience at CW is a positive and pleasant one for all players! Please be reminded that score posting into the GHIN system ends at Canterbury Woods on November 1, 2017. You can post all winter on line if you are away and play at other courses. Course postings at CWCC will resume again on April 1, 2018. (Continued on Page 2) Upcoming Events Course Closing Date Dependent upon Weather

Spectacular Fall Golf

at CWCC!

Fun at Walter’s Surprise Farewell Celebration on October 8!

Pro’s Corner and Final Thoughts (cont.)

As a final thought, I want to thank all our members and guests for making my time here as Pro such a memorable experience. It has been a good nine year run at CWCC and we have developed a fun family of golfers. Over my tenure here, the course has improved and continues to improve, thanks mostly to your interest and dedication to making this course one of the best in New England. I will miss the friendships I have made and the laughs and challenges we have jointly shared. Thank you all so much for your very generous farewell celebration.

I wish everyone a good winter with some golf and warm weather somewhere. I will hopefully see you all in the future!

Walter
