Our futsal and newcombe ball courts are well underway and our canteen area refurbishment is beginning next week. During this time of construction and building, I kindly ask that, for safety reasons, all parents ensure they keep small children and toddlers with them at all times when they are on school grounds. Our new playground equipment has been a hit with students of all ages! It’s wonderful to see everyone on the equipment and enjoying themselves. Again, I kindly ask that parents help the school in ensuring that our rule of NO PLAY EQUIPMEMT in the morning before school, or after the 3 0’clock bell in the afternoon is adhered to. This is for the safety of all of our students. I wish all our families and extended community who are celebrating EID this week a happy, safe and joyful time shared with family and friends. Kind regards, Mrs Natasha Zeremes Canteen Closure The canteen will be closed this week from Wednesday to Friday. The canteen will reopen on Tuesday 11 th June, 2019. Kindy Visits Calmsley City Farm On Monday the 27 th of May Kindergarten went on their first excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm! At school, we have been learning about how living things need food to stay alive and healthy. At the farm students had the opportunity to learn about the animals, plants and their needs. Students also got the chance to go on a tractor ride around the farm, milk a cow and pat many animals. They were so excited to see animals up close that they have only seen in stories before. Students were learning the characteristics and purposes of each farm animal. Kindergarten will continue to learn about the uses of animal products for the remainder of the term.

AFL Workshop Students not going to PSSA from Years 3 – 6 have been participating in a five week AFL coaching clinic. They were very lucky to meet Lachlen Keefe. Lachlan Keeffe is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League.

Breakfast Club A very big thank you to Woolworths who have donated a large quantity of breakfast cereals so that we can start our very own breakfast club. This will be targeting students who may not have had time to eat a nutritious breakfast at home and research tells us that a nutritious breakfast sets children up for a positive day of learning. Breakfast will be served on the canteen veranda every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30am.

PSSA Season two of PSSA is continuing and students are doing a great job each week. A reminder that all students selected to play in a PSSA team this season need to abide by the Code of Conduct. This conduct was discussed with all students. All teachers and parents are to abide by this code as well. Students attending PSSA are representing our school and should always be displaying safe and respectful behaviour.

Reminders Car Park Access: The two staff car parks are a no access area for students and parents. The school would like to work with all of our students and parents on this important issue. This is a safety issue because staff and delivery vehicles take priority at these gates and pedestrian gates in and out of the school are the ONLY safe and secure option for students and parents who are entering and leaving the school. No Hat - Play in the Shade: I have noticed that there are many children not wearing school hats. The prevention of serious skin cancers is a school priority and protecting our kids from the damaging effects of the sun means that we are moving towards a no hat – no play policy. The sale of hats for $12 at the school office is a positive and growing trend. School hats with your name in permanent marker inside the hat is the very best protection against skin cancer which develops from an early age.

Crunch & Sip Please supply fruit or vegetables for your child for Crunch & Sip break at school. Classes enjoy this break around 10am daily and teachers find it helps students with their ability to stay focused. Food Allergies We wish to inform you that there are students and staff in this school who have a severe food allergy to peanuts/nuts. It is important that there is a strict avoidance to this food in order to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction. We are asking your help to provide the student with a safe school environment.

Any exposure to peanuts/nuts may cause a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. To reduce the chance of this occurring, we are asking that you do not send any peanut or nut containing products to school with your child such as Peanut Butter or Nutella sandwiches or chocolate bars which contain nuts. If your child has eaten peanuts/nuts before coming to school, please be sure your child’s hands and face have been thoroughly washed before entering the school. Birthdays

At Granville South we are more than happy to celebrate birthdays within classrooms by singing

“Happy Birthday” and handing out cup cakes (enough for each child in the class) supplied by parents or carers. Anything else, however, is not appropriate within the school setting.
