PROGRAM

AVE MARIA FRANZ BIEBL (1906-2001)

Angelus Domini nuntiavit Mariae et concepit de Spiritu sancto. Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, Et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus, Jesus. Maria dixit: Ecce ancilla Domini. Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum. Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, Et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus, Jesus. Amen.

The angel of God visited Mary and she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus, Jesus. Mary said: See the servant of the Lord. May it happen to me according to your word. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus, Jesus. And the Word became flesh and lived among us. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, Holy Mary, pray for us now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD RANDALL THOMPSON (1899-1984)

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the pres-ence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Gloria

Gloria in excelsis Deo et in terra pax hominibus bonæ voluntatis. Glory be to God in the highest. And in earth peace to men of good will. We praise You; we bless You; we worship You; we glorify You. We give thanks to You for Your great glory. O Lord God, Heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. You who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. You who takes away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You who sits at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us. For you only are holy, you only are the Lord, you only are the most high, Jesus Christ. Together with the Holy Ghost in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

First Alleluia for the Feast of Pentecost

Page 5: Cantabile · And the Word became flesh and lived among us. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus,

Second Alleluia for the Feast of Pentecost

Alleluia. Alleluia. Veni Sancte Spiritus reple tuorum corda fide-lium: et tui amoris in eis ignem accende. Alleluia.

Alleluia. Alleluia. Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful: and kindle in them the fire of Your love. Alleluia.

Credo

I believe in one God; the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, light of light, true God of true God, begotten not made; being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation descended from heaven; and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost, of the Virgin Mary, and was made man. He was crucified also for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures: and ascended into heaven. He sits at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; and His kingdom shall have no end. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; as it was told by the Prophets.

Page 6: Cantabile · And the Word became flesh and lived among us. Hail Mary, Full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus,

Et in unam sanctam, catholicam et apostolicam Ecclesiam. Confiteor unum baptisma, in remissionem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum, et vitam venturi sæculi. Amen.

And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Sanctus

Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sa-baoth. Pleni sunt cæli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts. Heaven and earth are full of Your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Agnus Dei

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi: miserere nobis. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi: miserere nobis. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi: dona nobis pacem.

Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

INTERMISSION

AND IN THE EVENING AUDREY SNYDER (B. 1953) WILLIAM BLAKE (1757-1827)

And in the evening, when silence comes; the evening star draws the blue curtains of the sky, and washes the dusk with silver. Sleep upon a bed of silence, sleep and dream. Dream upon the silence of the night.

And in the evening, when silence comes; the heav'nly stars stream through interstellar space, clothed in radiant splendor. Sleep upon a bed of silence, sleep and dream. Dream upon the silence of the night.

O doe, what lovely ancient forest depths abound in your eyes; how much open trust mixed with how much fear. All this, borne by the brisk gracility of your bounds. But nothing ever disturbs that unpossessive unawareness of your brow.

THE BLUE BIRD CHARLES VILLIER STANFORD (1852-1924) MARY E. COLERIDGE (1867-1907)

The lake lay blue below the hill. O'er it, as I looked, there flew Across the waters, cold and still, A bird whose wings were palest blue.

The sky above was blue at last, The sky beneath me blue in blue. A moment, ere the bird had passed, It caught his image as he flew.

HOPE FOR RESOLUTION ARR. PAUL CALDWELL & SEAN IVORY

Of the Father's love begotten, E'er the world began to be. He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending he. Of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see, evermore and evermore. Oh, that birth, forever blessed, when the virgin full of grace, by the Holy Ghost receiving, bare the Saviour of our race. And the babe, the world's redeemer, first revealed his sacred face, evermore and evermore.

O ye heights of heav'n adore him, Angel hosts his praises sing, Pow'rs, dominions bow before him, And extol our God and King. Let no tongue on earth be silent, ev'ry voice in concert ring evermore and evermore. Thula sizwe, ungabokhala, uJehovah wakho uzokunqubela. Inkuleko, sizoyithola, uJehovah wakho uzokunqobela. Nation, do not cry. Jehovah will protect us. We will attain freedom. Jehovah will protect us.
