Advantages of MFC Treatment Process
Direct generation of Green Electricity Sustainability: Treatment Plants can practically disconnect from the grid Small Packaged Systems (Decentralized Power generation) High efficiency of Conversion No air required hence no requirement of blower/compressor etc. Scalability Modularity Retrofit: MFC can be installed into existing wastewater treatment tanks, with only minor changes to the infrastructure. No odor/ foul smelling etc. Safety & Health

Intellectual Property Status
• Canopus India hold the provisional patent for the technology, process and delivery model of LOCUS.
• The uniqueness of the product lies in:– Engineering design
• Gas Diffusion Layer for oxygen reduction• Easily alterable engineering design for different treatment purposes
– Materials used for cathode and anode• Graphite fiber brush anodes for higher power output
– Replacement of costly membrane• Expensive Nafion® membrane replaced by cheaper anion exchange
membranes/ glass wool/ earthen clay

Work Plan
•Feasibility studies on domestic wastewater and various industrial effluents
•Development of suitable microbial strain or a consortium of microorganisms.
•Optimization of various physico-chemical properties for maximum treatment efficiency and power generation.
•To design and develop a scaled up prototype based on simulations and modelling on already reported lab-scale prototypes.
Objective 1: Lab Scale Trail &
Feasibility (10 litre Model)
•To fabricate and build up the first pilot plant with a capacity of 1000 litres and test the plant in field conditions
Objective 2: Field Scale trail
(1000 litre)
TEDxIITKgp6th February
Work Plan
•Scale up to commercial pilot scale of size 10,000 L
•Testing on different effluents at plant site
•Development of electrical systems to store power
•Experimentation of MFC with existing wastewater treatment technologies to optimize the delivery
Objective 3: Field Scale Feasibility
(10,000 litre)
•Development of model for 100 KL/day
•Assessment of operative performance over the conventional system in terms of energy generation, treatment efficiency and system stability.
Objective 4: Model for 100 KL/day &
Delivery Model for the developed
technology
