Cannon Grange in historic Cannondale Village of Wilton, CT is a well-known agricultural institution with a historic hall and over 120 years of service to the community. Exhibitions showcasing fruit, vegetables, flowers, eggs, livestock, crafts & collections, baked goods, local non-profit talks, and other activities are just a few of the many events offered. It is a staple organization for Ridgefield, Wilton, Norwalk and surrounding areas, with a big heart and a humble mission – to guide individuals and families in exploring the pleasure of backyard gardening and livestock, protecting the natural world, and clean & healthy eating.

This year’s fair will look and feel very different from the previous fairs due to precautions concerning Covid- 19. Our Grange members and our wider community members will submit most of their entries virtually and the Grange will host the entire fair virtually this year. Flowers, fruits, and vegetables will be the only items dropped off at the hall. More information can be found here in our fair book.

History of theCannon Grange

Agricultural Fair & Exposition

The first “Cannon Grange Fair” was held in early September, 1933. It provided and opportunity for area farmers and their families to exhibit the “fruits of their labor” derived from the farms and homes here in Wilton and surrounding towns. Fresh produce, flowers, eggs, handmade clothing, baked goods and preserves were among items exhibited for competition. Farm animals were also exhibited. All of the excitement took place inside the Grange Hall and on its grounds by the Norwalk River.

Organizers of the early fair created an authentic “Ag Fair” for children and adults to enjoy. The Fairs continued with great enthusiasm for a decade until a decision was made during WWII to suspend the annual festivities with so many citizens involved in the war and the war-effort.

In 1975, the “Cannon Grange Agricultural Fair” was brought back to life and re-numbered as No. 1. The Fair was presented as a traditional Agricultural Fair for the community in the historic Cannon Grange Hall and on its grounds by the Norwalk River.

With careful growth and deserved successes, the Fair is now the “Cannon Grange Agricultural Fair & Exposition” due to the varied and tasteful exhibits, activities and events that take place for families to enjoy. We have returned the numbering from the 1933 event, and thus present the 88th Anniversary Cannon Grange Agricultural Fair and Exposition.

Please enjoy the exhibits entered by adults, teens and children!

HelPFul Hints to PrePare your entries For Judging and to Win tHat riBBon!

ADVICE FOR TAKING YOUR DIGITAL PHOTO Find a location that is well lit with even light, for example, near a window, but not in direct sunlight. When you take the photo, try to make your entry as large as possible in the picture. Make sure it is in focus. The goal is to have your entry presented to the judges in as clear an image as possible.

VEGETABLES AND FRUITAppearance and color are very important. Strive to submit entries that are firm and fresh, i.e. of excellent “market quality.” Uniform size and shape are very important. The judges will be the only people to handle the exhibits, carefully checking for bruises and blemishes. Pick the fruit or vegetables as close to the Fair date as possible to ensure freshness!

FLOWERSAppearance is very important. Try to submit blossoms of uniform size and development, stems of similar length and with good quality leaves. If a leaf has a hole in it, carefully remove it by pulling it off down the stem, or carefully cutting it off with a knife blade. Submit what the exhibit requires. Pick the flowers as close to the Fair date as possible to ensure freshness!
