Comprised o the St. Lawrence River, St. Lawrence Seawayand the Great Lakes, Hwy H2O is a 3,700-kilometer (2,400mile) marine highway that runs between Canada and theUnited States. Hwy H2O fows directly into our commercial, industrial and agricultural heartland, home to some 100million people, roughly one quarter o the Canada/U.S.combined population.

Cargo moves reely along the waterway reliably arriving atits destination on time. Some 41 ports serve as on/o rampsconnecting to a vast network o roadways and rail linesproviding complete door-to-door service.

Over 300 million metric tonnes o cargo were transported onHwy H2O during the 2004 navigation season. Remarkably, the Seaway is currently being utilized at only 50% o itscapacity. With global trade continually increasing, orecastscall or marine tra c volumes worldwide to triple within thenext 20 years.

Hwy H2O is strategically positioned to play a dynamic rolein our world o changing markets, road congestion and

    clogged coastal ports.

Built and commissioned during an era when Bu alos water ront andort were booming, the Cotter has been an invaluable asset o rerotection or the numerous warehouses, grain elevators and otheracilities that line Bu alos shores.

On October 7, 1960, an unprecedented event occurred in Americanhistory. On that night, at the age o 60, the Edward M. Cottersxtraordinary re ghting abilities were called upon to help Bu alosellow re ghters in another country.

A blaze had erupted in the eight-story Maple Lea Milling Company, agrain and milling complex in Port Colborne. With no reboat protection

their own, the Port Colborne Fire Dept. sent the call out requestinghe Cotter.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., with no radar o her own to help hernavigate, the Cotter began her trip accross the waters o Lake Erie. Two

hours ma ter receiving the call, the Cotter arrived. With all her gunsrought to bear, she ought or more than our hours until the blaze wasnally extinguished. On that day, the Edward M. Cotter became the rstreboat in the United States to cross the international line to ght a re.
