Program
Welcome Everyone!
It was almost four years ago when we all celebrated the establishment of the Canadian Palestinian Professional Foundation. Today we celebrate this great achievement of the preservation of Palestinian culture and our heritage with you. We are happy to see so many familiar face, and new ones too!
We’d like to thank the Palestinian community and our friends from around the world for their continued and unwavering support. Our mission is to provide a social, cultural and intellectual environment conducive to lifelong learning, strong networking and high quality local and interna-tional education scholarships. These scholarships are available to Palestinian students worldwide and are funded through various UN and Canadian government programs, private donations and our CPPF’s fundraising activities.
Our foundation’s goals are to assist Palestinian students in Canadian and other educational institutions, to avail themselves of various educational opportuni-ties by oering them scholarships for undergraduate, post graduate studies and professional development.
We strive to promote and strengthen the sense of community among Canadian Palestinian professionals by encouraging them to share their experience among themselves and create strong connections as well as establishing long lasting cultural and professional ties with Palestine. With our partnership with the UNRWA we are able to sponsor Palestinian students. Last year we sponsored twenty one students from the west bank and Gaza strip, we wish them all every success and looking forward to sponsor many more.
The UNRWA will be presenting us with a short list of students to choose from and award them our scholarship through the UNRWA scholarship program, our goal this year is to sponsor six to eight students from Palestine. Our heartfelt and sincere thank you goes to our wonderful and hardworking CPPF-ex-ecutives for their dedication and commitment to the foundation and for their volunteer spirit and countless hours of hard work.
Last but not least, we would like to thank our wonderful CPPF members, sponsors, donors, and volunteers. Thank you for believing in the CPPF mission and your continuous support to help our students achieve their academic goals through your nancial charity.
Without your help, we wouldn’t be able to celebrate our fourth year anniversary. With your help and support, we can build a brighter future for such top-talented Palestinian students and their families.

She also served as a hall advisor for incoming rst-year students to help them transition to the BMC community. Shorouk maintained an active role in her chemistry department. She was elected as a major representative planning activities to bring chemistry students and faculty together, as well as a teaching assistant for multiple academic courses including general and organic chemistry. Shorouk also worked as a research student synthesising biologically active molecules targeting an enzyme known for immune escape, and has had her research published in the European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
Shorouk graduated with honours last May. She is now currently completing her PhD in organo-metallic chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. She is passionate about research and teaching and is interested in pursuing a career in academia in the future.
Student Success Story: Shorouk, Bethlehem, Palestine
The CPPF is proud to support Shorouk, a student from Bethlehem, Palestine, as she completed her undergraduate education at Bryn Mawr College (BMC) in Pennsylvania, USA. At BMC, Shorouk pursued an American Chemical Society certied chemistry major. On campus, she participated in many academic and extra-curricu-lar activities, including her role as a Co-President of Voices for Palestine, a student organization she co-founded to promote the Palestinian culture with her fellow students.

With hard work and determination, Dr. Awad graduated from the American University of Beirut from the Faculty of Medicine. He moved to the United States where he did his residency in Psychiatry, and Child Psychiatry. After completing his residen-cies, he immigrated to Canada in 1973, where he practiced as a Psychiatrist, a Child Psychiatrist, and a Psychoanalyst, as well as a Training Analyst. He became the Director of the Family Court Clinic, a Department of the Clark Institute, and was a court appointed expert witness when discussing the best interests of a child. He was asked to speak at many international avenues, including the United Nations, regarding his experiences as a Palestinian and Psychoanalyst.
Dr. Awad was an educator throughout his whole life. His teaching institutes include: the University of Toronto, The Hospital for Sick Children, the Clark Institute, and the Toronto Analytic Society. Dr. Awad also loved teaching and spending time in Lebanon. It was there he taught front line workers about post-trauma children, and the current methods of treatment . Just before Dr. Awad passed away, he completed a paper that was to be presented at a conference in Berlin discussing displaced peoples. He didn't make there till present.
Dr. Awad was a hopeful man, who felt that one day there would be a solution to the injustices of the world. He believed that solutions could come from understanding others.
The CPPF is proud to honour the positive contributions that Dr. Awad made as a Palestinian not only in his career, but his life.
