High cholesterol usually refers to high LDL

(“bad”) cholesterol. The main goal is to lower LDL-cholesterol . Check with your health care provider to find

out if you should be on medication to accomplish this.

Weight management , healthy eating and regular physical activity

will also help you reach this goal. This pamphlet will help you make healthy

choices

Goals

There has been a 10-to-30 fold increase in American

children with type 2 diabetes in the past 10 to 15 years.

Most of these children are from ethnic groups at high risk for type 2 diabetes, i.e. African,

Hispanic and Asian descent. Given that 77 per cent of new Canadians are from these populations,

the rate of type 2 diabetes in this country is expected to skyrocket in coming years

Across the country, the Canadian Diabetes Association is leading the fight against diabetes by

helping people with diabetes live healthy lives while we work to find a cure. We are supported in our efforts by a community-based network of donors, volunteers, employees, healthcare professionals, researchers and corporate partners.

Through the support of these many partners, the Association is able to provide research support, outstanding programs,

advocacy and valuable services to people living with diabetes. Your generosity allows us to help the 9 million Canadians with diabetes or

prediabetes live life to the fullest while we search for a cure
