1Remove the valve cover from the engine. Refer to Group21 for service procedures.

2Install the engine turning tool.

3Turn the camshaft using the cranking tool. Check thecamshaft with regard to wear on the camshaft lobes anddamage to the surfaces.

Note: Unevenness can develop on cam lobe surfacesduring normal operation. This does not mean thecamshaft must be changed.

These figures show examples of a camshaft with materialdamage. The camshaft should not be reused. Replacethe rocker arms that roll on the damaged cam lobes whenthe camshaft is replaced.

6Install the valve cover. Refer to Group 21 for serviceprocedures.
