Project Background• VIHA has been involved in the planning for replacement and
updating of the acute care facilities in both Campbell River and Comox Valley since 2003
• The Campbell River and Comox Valley Hospitals are nearly 50 years old:
o Physical infrastructure is deteriorating
o Difficult meeting the future needs for patient care
o Currently preventing staff from providing the best care possible
• May 2009, VIHA announced the replacement of these facilities: o 153-bed hospital in the Comox Valley
o 95-bed hospital in Campbell River
