Every individual makes a difference. The least I can do is speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves. The greatest danger to our future is apathy.” - JaneGoodall Our lives are enriched by our association with animals – from the pets who share our homes to the awe-inspiring creatures of the deep sea. We rely on animals for companionship, sustenance, beauty, inspiration, protection, and to maintain the natural balance in our ecosystems. We share this planet with countless species, and it’s our duty to protect them, and their home – the only home we have, and foster the growing relationships between species. Throughout recorded history and even today, we partner with animals to help us accomplish tasks we can’t conquer on our own. Animals lend their strength to help us plow the ground so we can cultivate crops to feed our families. They use their keen reflexes to keep our homes, barns, and food storage areas free of vermin. They employ their acute sense of smell to help us find missing persons, alert us to potential hazards, and identify diseases with higher accuracy than man- made machines. Highly-trained service animals can restore a sense of independence to individuals with injuries, health concerns, or other disabilities. Because animals can’t speak for themselves, it is up to us to speak for them, in gratitude for all of the ways they support and serve us. Being good stewards of the animals in our care means raising awareness for rescue efforts, and supporting wildlife rehabilitation benefits the health of our planet, preserving it for generations to come. Preservation efforts can even bring species back from the brink of extinction, such as the success story of the iconic Bald Eagle, whose population is now increasing with 71,400 new nesting pairs discovered in the past decade from a low of 417. The CFC makes it easy for all of us to change the world. Your donation to animal welfare cause areas supports CFC charities’ efforts to protect all creatures, large and small. Your help greatly benefits our furry, feathery, and finned friends here at home and around the world, ensuring they receive the care each of them deserve. Join the CFC community today and become a changemaker.

Get into the Spirit

Looking to add some energy and excitement into your campaign? Hosting contests and events are a great way to promote engagement and excitement for everyone. Below are just a few ideas to bring some seasonal fun to your campaign!

•Pumpkin Carving Contest: Ask colleagues to bring their carved pumpkin into the break room or other community location to allow blind judging while having your key workers at the event to discuss and promote the CFC. Take it virtual by using submitted photos of the pumpkin creations.

•Costume Contest: Ask participants to wear something in support of their charitable cause. During the event, attendees can guess what the causes and participants can have a few moments to reveal their cause and talk about why their cause is important tothem.

•Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt: Create a series of questions about the campaign and have your co-workers search to find those answers on the website. Winner gets a candy bar!

•Pet Costume Contest: Ask participants to submit photos of their pets dressed up for Halloween. Everyone can vote through email, intranet site, or survey for their favorites. Compile the photos to show on a slideshow. Invite an animal-related charity to speak. And then reveal the winner of the contest.

Don’t forget to invite leadership and follow all health and safety guidelines for your agency or department. Looking for additional ideas? Download the Events Toolkit to learn more!
