CAMP
HOPE
2010
Children attending Camp Hope will
participate in a variety of activities
along side other children their age
who are dealing with emotions and
feelings of loss much like their own.
They will also be grouped with car-

support and valuable information as
they journey through the grieving
process. Campers will be encour-
aged to express their feelings and
emotions at their own comfort lev-
els, and in turn better understand
those feelings associated with grief
and bereavement. Professional
staff is also available to children
and their families following the
camp to continue to assist with any
grief or bereavement related needs
Sharing:To provide children with an op-
portunity to meet in a safe and accepting
environment to share their experiences

age who have lost a loved one.
Understanding:To increase the child’s
understanding of grief and the journey
through mourning.
Expression:To provide information on
grief in order to facilitate better under-
standing and expression of their feel-
ings.
Memories:To enable children to merge
their feelings with memories of their
loved one.

awareness of available support systems.

Camp Hope 2009 a HUGE Success
The 2009 Camp Hope was a great
success. Approximately 20 families,
including both children and parents,
were touched through the project.
Children between the ages of 5 and
16 attended the one-day grief camp
which was sponsored by Hospice of
South Georgia, Inc. and was held at
the Flying Eagle Ranch. The children
spent time with counselors exploring
their feelings and grief for loved
ones and enjoyed expressing them-
selves through crafts and music. The
children also enjoyed time making
new friends who understood what
they were feeling as well. Horse back
riding, paddle boats and games, skits,
food and a memorial balloon release
added to the fun. Parents were also
invited to a round table discussion
which opened more doors for healing
