The activities will be based on how the Spanish Immersion program works. It is open to both Spanish and non-Spanish immersion students. We will develop craft activities, plays, sing great songs, practice pronunciation with fun tongue twisters in Spanish, cooking (snacks), painting, among other amazing activities. It has been developed for the middle schoolstudent whowould benefit from development of social thinking, perspective taking, and improvement in theirabilitytorelatetoothers.Socialskillsarebeingabletosharespacewithotherseffectivelyandadapttoothersinavariety of contexts. This is important for friendships, family relationships, academic success, work and lifeskills. We will be using the framework model by Michelle Garcia Winner and her book, Thinking About YouThinking AboutMewith group activities that are fun and engaging for this age group. Studentswill learn andpractice within a structured and positive environment how to initiate conversations, listen with their facialexpressions, understand social cues and abstract reasoning, understand the gestalt of situations, and use andunderstandhumoreffectively.Thisisalanguage-basedcamptoalsopromoteexpressiveandreceptivepragmaticlanguage development specific to social skills. Cooperative and age appropriate games will be incorporatedthroughout the week. Typical students who would benefit from this group may or may not be on the autismspectrumandmayormaynotstruggleacademically.Theactivitiesaredevelopmentallyappropriateandtailoredtothespecificneedsofthegroupthatarebothphysicalandmental,supervisedandgoaldirected.Byparticipatingin thiscampyourchild isreceiving15hoursof intensive,groupand individualcognitive-language therapy.
