Drilling Capabilities Overview

Cameron Drilling Systems Delivered Worldwide for Varied Applications

Varied Drilling ApplicationsCameron has delivered complete drilling systems fordrillships, semisubmersibles, platforms and jackups. These rigs have rated water depths from several hun-dred to over 10,000 feet and operate from 5000 to15,000 psi working pressure.

BOP Stack SystemsThe vast majority of these rigs are using Cameron’s18-3/4” TL BOPs in 4-, 5- and 6- cavity body styles.BOP Stack systems also include Cameron collet connectors including the Model 70, HC, DWHCand HCH4 designs.

Riser Systems The Cameron LoadKing and RF riser systems arebeing utilized on several of these rigs to meet thedemands of drilling in deepwater. Both riser systemsaccommodate high tension loads and provide formultiple control lines.

Control SystemsMany of the control systems used on these rigs areCameron Controls’ Multiplex (MUX) BOP ControlSystems. Cameron’s MUX system features the lightestweight, most compact pod in the industry today. In addition, Cameron offers the industries only fully

retrievable MUX pods. The popularity of theCameron MUX control system has made CameronControls the industry leader in the supply of drillingcontrol systems. Cameron Controls also offers direct hydraulic control systems for subsea and land applications.

Choke Manifold SystemsCameron has also provided the manifold systems for these drilling rigs. Cameron provides completemanifold systems from the surface panels to thechokes, valves, actuators and pressure transmitters.

Cameron Puts Experience to Work to Develop New and Innovative Solutions for Future Challenges

Hybrid (Free-Standing Production) RiserSystemCameron’s Free-Standing Production Riser System(FSPR) represents an economical alternative to tradi-tional deepwater development concepts includingthe steel catenary riser system.

Cameron’s FSPR was installed in 1521 feet (463meters) of water for an early production system, laterretrieved, modified and rerun in 2096 feet (639meters) of water for a deeper field. This representsthe only hybrid riser system installed. Cameron cannow supply various hybrid riser options for the freestanding riser including towed-out and up-endedand stalked-in designs. Cameron’s options offer theopportunity to decrease the risks and costs typicallyassociated with steel catenary riser systems particu-larly for the larger deeper fields.

The FSPR system was the winner of the 1989Petroleum Engineer International Meritorious Awardfor Engineering Innovation.

Free-Standing Drilling Riser SystemBased on the field-proven Free-Standing ProductionRiser System, Cameron’s Free-Standing Drilling RiserSystem (FSDR) provides an alternative to the time-consuming operation of drilling riser deployment and retrieval in deepwater.

In this system, a retrievable upper section and afree-standing lower section are mated 300 to 500feet (91 to 152 meters) below the surface of thewater. When disconnect is required, either in an

emergency or for standard rig operations, the uppersection is retrieved and the lower section is left tofree-stand on the ocean floor. The retrievable risersection can be pulled in several hours, saving rig time during both retrieval and redeployment.

Cameron’s free-standing drilling riser is the winner of the prestigious 1999 Petroleum EngineerInternational Meritorious Award for EngineeringInnovation and provides savings by increasing theoperating window, lowering development drillingcosts and lowering maintenance costs.

SPARs and TLPsCameron has the unique ability to provide a totalsystem for a SPAR or tension leg platform (TLP).Cameron systems are based on field experience andrepresent the most efficient, cost-effective systemspossible for each individual application.

Cameron’s broad scope of supply includes subsea, platform and adjustable wellhead systems,BOP stacks, drilling and production risers (includingfree-standing, integral and non-integral systems),completion systems, subsea manifolds, connectionsystems, and drilling and production control systems. Each component, as well as the total system isdesigned based on the best individual solution foreach specific field application. Cameron designs are backed by numerous computer based analysis programs, basin testing and prototype testing, allbased on field data collected from instrumentationpackages.

Slender Well SystemsThe industry trend today is to look for ways to utilizesecond or third generation vessels for deepwater.Cameron’s Slender Well Systems provide the contrac-tor with the opportunity to do just that. WithCameron’s wellhead, small bore BOP stacks, andreduced bore riser systems, variable deck loads and tension requirements are substantially reduced, and the drilling process is optimized to reduce drilling time.

Hybrid (Free-Standing Production) Riser System

Cameron’s vast experience with both drilling and production systems provides a unique opportunity to design and manufacture integrated systems specifically designedto optimize customer operations. Cameron has provided, designed, or is actively designing Free-Standing Production Riser Systems, Free-Standing Drilling Riser Systems, systems designed for SPAR/TLP applications and Slender Well Systems.

Cameron has designed, manufactured and delivered surface and subsea drilling systems from the wellhead through the manifold to meet a wide variety of customerrequirements and drilling applications. These systems are on their way to projects from Africa to the Gulf of Mexico, and represent Cameron system solutions and theirarray of design configurations.

Collet Connectors and Riser Systems

Collet ConnectorsAs drilling depths have increased, Cameron collet connectors have evolved toaddress issues concerning higher internal and external pressures, increasingapplied bending and tension loads and extreme operating conditions. Cameronoffers four collet connectors:

• Model 70 Collet Connector• High Capacity (HC) Collet Connector • Deepwater High Capacity (DWHC) Collet Connector • HCH4 Collet Connector

The Model 70 is offered in sizes and pressure ratings for a wide variety ofapplications. The HC is similar to the Model 70 but is designed to providegreater preload to withstand higher separating forces. The DWHC is a highstrength drilling and completion collet connector engineered for the high loadsencountered in ultra deepwater applications. The HCH4 connector locks onto an H4 wellhead.

All Cameron connectors offer high strength and stiffness with a direct loadpath through the connector and metal-to-metal sealing AX gaskets on the colletend ensure seal integrity. Positively driven-open collet segments during unlockensure that no overpull is required to disconnect. A secondary unlock function is also included in each design.

DWHC Collet ConnectorHC Collet ConnectorModel 70 Collet Connector

Riser Systems Cameron offers drilling riser systems which accommodate the stringent condi-tions encountered in deepwater drilling including high tension loads, multiplecontrol lines, and the need to respond to changes in surface weather conditions.

The LoadKing™ family of riser connectors is designed to meet the demands of ultra deepwater drilling in water depths of 7000 feet (2134 meters) or more.

Today’s Cameron Modular Subsea And IntegratedCompletion (MOSAIC) systems build on Cameron’slong history of subsea success. MOSAIC systems are a combination of standardized components thatfit together in a modular fashion. In the MOSAICsystem, six basic elements or component “families”have been designated.

Position ElementsMOSAIC Position Elements include drilling guidebas-es, production guidebases, templates and porches for other MOSAIC elements, like controls and remoteconnectors.

Position Elements come guideline and guideline-less, with one, two or three slots and in sizes rangingfrom small for single satellite or offset wells to large,multi-well templates. Templates are simply the

combination of four or more guidebases into a single, pre-tested unit. Any number of wells can beaccommodated through multiples of the three basicguidebases. Position Elements are often combinedwith Distribution Elements, such as manifolds andumbilical termination assemblies, as complete, pre-engineered assemblies.

Pressure ElementsSubsea wellheads and pressure caps are categorizedas Pressure Elements in the MOSAIC System. The pri-mary Cameron wellhead is the STM™ WellheadSystem, which is offered in standard and enhanceddeepwater, high-capacity versions. The STM (singletrip, metal-seal) wellhead is an all-purpose productfor applications to 15,000 psi.

Distribution ElementsDistribution Elements in the MOSAIC system include flowbases, manifolds and umbilical terminationassemblies. These assemblies are used to receive produced fluids from multi-well templates or satellitewells in order to control, commingle and divert theflow to a production riser or pipeline.

Pre-engineered MOSAIC flowbases are availablefor a variety of single well applications such as production satellite, water injector, gas lift productionand intermediate daisy-chain base. For two wells ormore, pre-engineered MOSAIC components can beconfigured into manifolds to be used with satelliteproducers, injectors, daisy-chains and combinationsof these.

MOSAIC™ Subsea Production Systems

Access ElementsAccess Elements include subsea Christmas trees, workover risers, pig launchers and removable pigging loops. Cameron has redesigned its subseatree products into modular assemblies utilizing pre-engineered subcomponents. These subcompo-nents provide operators with standardized assem-blies, yet allow re-arrangement of the subcomponents for flexibility in tailoring equipment systemsto individual field requirements.

Cameron currently offers a choice of two highlyreliable and feature-rich Christmas trees in itsMOSAIC system: the innovative Cameron SpoolTreesubsea tree, and the Cameron dual bore conven-tional tree. A standard mudline tree configuration is also available.

Control ElementsControl Elements supply power feedback, telemetryand logic to operate other MOSAIC elements. ThisMOSAIC family includes control systems, chokes, multiplex control modules or pods, CameronHydraQuad™ couplers and ROV panels.

The CAMTROL™ Advanced Multiplexed SubseaProduction Control System offers a modularapproach to controlling subsea systems. The system is applicable to many field conditions andcan be easily adapted for use in deepwater orshallow water; with trees or manifolds; or with

virtually any production scenario. The CAMTROL system uses common intervention

methods for the installation and retrieval of the sub-sea control module, chokes, accumulator modulesand multi-phase flow meters. Methods may

include diver-assist, diverless, guideline, guideline-less, ROV assisted and totally autonomous.

The CAMTROL control module incorporatesdirectional control valves which have been miniatur-ized and modularized into a single valve block capable of controlling four functions. Each modulecan accommodate up to eight directional controlvalves for control of 32 hydraulic functions.

Connection ElementsConnection Elements include pipeline, flowline andumbilical connection systems and are typically usedin horizontal, vertical, diver-assist or ROV-drivenapplications. MOSAIC Connection Elements utilize common interfaces which allow a variety of different types of connection systems to beattached.

SpoolTree™ Production Systems

Modular SpoolTree System Spool Body and Valve Assembly Configurations

In the Cameron SpoolTree design, the spool body provides outlets to attach production, annulus and isolation valves for downhole functions and the electrical penetrator bonnet assembly. The tubing hanger landing shoulder is specially ported to acceptcontrol stabs and provides hydraulic continuity between the production control system and downhole hydraulics.

The valves are contained both as an integral part of the spool body, and in mini-blocks external to the vertical bore of the tree. A typical valve cluster includes production and annulus master valve, production and annulus wing valve, crossovervalve, workover valve and isolation valves for SCSSV, CIV and other requirements.Assemblies are available for 3” through 7” completions.

Basic Chemical Injection Annulus Crossover

Gas Lift ChokeProduction Choke

The Cameron SpoolTree Production System is one ofthe most widely used trees in the world and offersmany time and cost saving advantages over conven-tional tree systems.

Instead of the typical wellhead-hanger-tree stack-up, the SpoolTree design has a wellhead-tree-hangerstackup. In this configuration, the Christmas treeconsists of a concentric bore spool with a wellhead

connector below and a wellhead connector profileon top. The tubing hanger is hung off inside thespool on a dedicated load shoulder, and the valvesare situated on the side of the spool. No valves arein the vertical bore of the wellhead/tree system. Thecompletion is run after the tree is installed and thecompletion can be pulled with the tree in place andflowline connections undisturbed.

MOSAIC SpoolTree Production Systems can beconfigured with a wide array of component choices. The possible combinations of components, availablepressure ratings and sizes are virtually endless. Theresult is a cost-effective system that can be adaptedto virtually any subsea job.

The highly successful Cameron Dual Bore ProductionSystem has been the number one choice of opera-tors for many years. More than 300 have been delivered worldwide since it was introduced in 1985.Today’s version has been reengineered for modularityand standard interfaces that have been added toensure compatibility with a wide range of systemsand components.

The dedicated annulus bore and vertical full-boreaccess to both the production tubing and annulusprovide several advantages. The tubing casing annulus can be circulated and pressure bled off. This simplifies troubleshooting by enabling annulus monitoring for downhole pressure and temperature, sand production and tubing and packer leaks. Well servicing and well conversion are easier and rig hands are familiar with the running tools. In

addition, one or more electrical penetrators can beprovided for downhole pressure and temperaturegauges and for electrical submersible pumps.

Versions of the dual bore tree are offered for5000, 10,000 and 15,000 psi WP and water depthsto 10,000 feet. They are used for oil and gas production, gas and water injection service on satellite wells, clusters or templates.

Cameron offers a complete family of gate valves for surface and subsea appli-cations. Selection for a specific application depends on a number of factors.

Slab-Style GatesCameron slab-style gates are one-piece, solid gates

which consistently deliver outstanding sealing perfor-mance throughout a wide range of conditions, boresizes and working pressure, including corrosive andabrasive fluid environments. Slab-style gates are usedin the Cameron FL, FLS and FLS-R forged gate valvesfor both manual and actuated applications. Thesevalves meet or exceed the requirements of API

Specifications 6A, 6A SSV/USV and 17D.The slab-style gate effects a metal-to-metal seal on the flow stream. Its

simple, straightforward design makes it easy to maintain and ideal for low andhigh pressure sealing where particulate matter could pose a sediment prob-lem. Slab gates may also be used where wireline cutting is required.

Expanding-Style GatesRecognized worldwide as the Pow-R-Seal® gatedesign, expanding-style gates are used in theCameron M and M215 cast body gate valves. Thispopular gate design is used in manual valves to pro-duce a high seating force against both the upstreamand downstream seats simultaneously as the hand-wheel is tightened. This force effects a tight mechani-cal seal which is unaffected by line pressure fluctua-

tions or vibration. The expanding gate allows a positive mechanical seal acrossboth seats upstream and downstream, with or without pressure.

The gate assembly uses an angular gate face which is collapsed during trav-el. When closed, a stop causes further downward travel to force the faces ofthe gate outward to effect a positive line flow seal. When opened, a stopcauses further upward travel to force bottom faces to expand and seal againstthe seats to isolate flow from the valve body cavity.

Production Control SystemsThe CAMTROL™ Advanced Multiplexed SubseaProduction Control System is part of the MOSAIC(Modular Subsea and Integrated Completions) product line and offers a modular approach to controlling subsea systems. This system is smaller, lighter, more dependable, easier to install and incorporates more functionality than any system on the market today.

A systemic approach enables the CAMTROL system to operate and monitor an entire field development and to be adaptable from field development to field development, eliminating the need for custom-designed systems every timefield parameters change. The system is applicableto many field conditions and can easily be adaptedfor use in deepwater or shallow water; with trees ormanifolds; or with virtually any production scenario.

The CAMTROL system uses common interventionmethods for the installation and retrieval of thesubsea control module, retrievable subsea chokes, accumulator modules and compact, multi-phaseflow meters. Methods may include diver-assist,diverless, guideline, guidelineless, ROV-assisted andtotally autonomous.

The CAMTROL subsea control module (SCM) is small, compact and lightweight. It provides multiplexed electro-hydraulic monitoring and controls of up to 32 hydraulic functions includingthe traditional tree functions, manifold valve control, choke adjustment, position indication/feed-back, header pressure/temperature monitoring, downhole monitoring, and pressure drops acrosschokes.
