Calvary Episcopal Church

Indian Rocks Beach, Florida

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise;give thanks to him and call upon his Name...” Jubilate - Psalm 100

Life at Calvary revolves around God's Word, sacraments and ministries in which wecarry out our Christian calling to love and serve one another. We welcome all whoenter and offer many opportunities to enrich your own faith while serving the greatergood.

Calvary's Vision is to be known as Christians living in a Christian communityidentified by the diversity of our congregation, built upon our qualities of

Spirituality, Compassion, Respect and Love. We will be recognized by our dioceseand community for our Worship, Catechesis (our teaching), Stewardship (our time, talents and treasures) and Evangelism (our message to the world).

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands..." every Sunday morning at Calvaryfrom the singing of the Psalm at our 8am service to the voices of the choir at our10am service, music enriches the spiritual experience. Gifts of music are also offeredby the bell choir and children's choir.

Calvary values Christian education for all ages. We encourage the children to beactive in the life of the church, learning about the liturgy and the Eucharist at a youngage. Children begin as acolytes as young as 7 years old and continue to serve throughhigh school. From Sunday Christian education for kids and adults to weekly Biblestudy, Calvary provides a nurturing and a loving supportive environment for all.

Calvary is where we are strengthened, fed, loved, inspired, nourished and given hope.We are able to see miracles taking place every day as the hungry are fed, the sick arevisited, kids learn to sail and candles of prayer are lighted. We are a holy people, forwe have been "sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ's ownforever."

A Parish Family in the Diocese of Southwest Florida

Our Mission at Calvary is.....

To worship and praise God through the Sacraments of the Church

To proclaim the Gospel

To promote Christian fellowship and spiritual growth

And to live not for ourselves but for all God's people

Our Mission Prayer is....

Almighty God, by your divine providence you have brought us into the sacredfellowship of this parish. Help us, we pray, to worship you with such holy worship,to serve you with such unselfish love, and to give so generously for the extension ofyour Kingdom, that we may become more worthy members of your holy catholicchurch; and that our parish may faithfully fulfill its mission to make known your truthand to convey your love to all; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reignswith you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Our mission defines who we are, who we serve and what we believe God has calledus to do. Knowing that we must address the unique future that is being shaped we

have established four goals: Worship, Evangelism, Stewardship and Leadership.Working within the framework of these goals we believe that we will be able toeffectively achieve our purpose.

Stewardship at Calvary ...

Our goal is to insure that Calvary has the resources to do God’s workand put our resources to work to accomplish our Mission.

Caring for God's gifts and sharing them is what stewardship is all about. Whenviewed from this perspective it is not an onerous obligation, but a joyous expressionof thanksgiving and an opportunity to use God's gifts we've received to do the workGod is calling us to do.

Calvary enables each parishioner to answer God's call to Stewardship in their ownway through our many ministries.

This is reflected in the Altar Guild as they work to enhance the beauty of our worship,or members of St Raphael's Guild as they greet and usher those entering, to the lectorsand Eucharist ministers who proclaim God's word at worship. The giving of time andtalent is lovingly offered through the Celebration of Life team to those who have losta loved one. It shines in the Hospitality team as they prepare for Sunday coffee hour, the Inspirational Tea, concert receptions and all the activities that involve good foodand fellowship. Many talents of our parish family are heard through the voices inchoir, the knowledge of computers for classes, mastering our website and producingour monthly newsletter The Crier. The stewardship of time is evident in the foodpantry, flower delivery, disaster preparedness, Winterfest, counters, filling Christmasshoeboxes for migrant children and bringing empty pill containers for the Matthew25 Ministries.

Stewardship education comes in many forms at Calvary from articles written byparishioners for The Crier, the Stewardship Corner on the website to "the voice fromthe pew" where a parishioner shares thoughts and experiences of their ownstewardship.

Stewardship within a program of Planned Giving was established through the LegacySociety. Calvary's Legacy Society is a way for all parishioners to bless futuregenerations through a legacy gift. The Legacy Society encourages, supports andcelebrates gifts to our Endowment Fund that endures forever.
