The American Cancer Society seeks to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing the suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.

Dear Friends,Everyone has a story….the most embarrassing moment, their first kiss, how they met their spouse, celebrity encounters, winning the big game…. And in these life moments, most of us will remember every detail…the weather, what we wore, who was there, where we were…

Each year nearly 18,000 Oklahomans will have a new story of their own – the story of their cancer diagnosis. The date, the moment, the details will never be forgotten. They are filled with a range of emotions from shock, anger, sadness…

These moments are compounded by the inability to access treatment, afford lodging, and retain dignity. Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death for Oklahomans. We can change this, and we will.

We plan to write our own story on Friday, September 13, 2013. All of the details will be carefully planned and funds will be raised for the American Cancer Society patient programs. These programs help prevent cancer through education and research. They make treatment accessible, living with cancer bearable, and fill patients with a few more emotions: that of hope and resolve.

We may not know what the weather will have in store for us, it is Oklahoma, after all, but on Friday, September 13, 2013, we know what we will wear, and where we will be…every detail of that evening will mean something to those 18,000 Oklahomans…the diagnosis is only the beginning - join us in helping them write the happy ending to their stories.

Together, we can help create a world with less cancer and more birthdays!

Sincerely,

Christy Taylor2013 Cattle Baron’s Ball Chair
