September 2015 Hey, Friends!

The signs for Fall are all around us. The cooler

the season is changing.

September brings opportunity to begin again as

summer ends. God has opened up a new opportunity

of mission and outreach for us this Fall. The Pearl

Lower Elementary School is expanding its Pirate

Partners in Literacy Program. A Pirate Partner is a

caring adult who volunteers once or twice a week for

September also brings an opportunity to invite

our Friends, Relatives, Associates and Neighbors

(FRANS) to church. For the second year, we will

participate in the National Back to Church Sunday

on September 20. We will have an opportunity for

worship at 10:55 followed by a pot-luck lunch.

In 2014, over 26,400 churches participated in this

growing national movement. Once again we are

would attend church if someone they knew invited

them, but, only 2% of church-going people invite

someone to church in a given year. Your invitation

can make a difference—a difference that might have

eternal significance.

So, how will we invite our FRANS to church on

September 20? Here are some suggestions:

1. Ask God to put on your heart the names of 2 or 3

people who are unchurched or have not attended

church recently.

2. Pray that God will help you find the best

way to invite each person. Would that

sanctuary.

3. Act on the opportunity that God will provide

you. Here’s an example of a way to invite —

“We/I would be honored to have you join

us/me for worship of Sept 20 at 10:55 at my

church McLaurin Heights United Methodist.

would love for you also to be my guest at the

meal.”

4. If it seems appropriate, go a step further and

offer to pick your guests up or to meet them

together.

I can’t wait to see how God will use us to share

his love in this new season. His opportunities are

abundant!

Blessings and peace,

Vicki

Sunday School 9:45 Each Week

The nursery teaches our toddlers and twos Bible stories

using picture cards. In September they will learn from

Genesis that everything that God makes is supremely

good.

The children will also learn from Genesis about The

Earth, Living Things, In God’s Image, and Adam and

Eve.

Super Second Sunday

We will have our Super Second Sunday for the children

on September 13th at 5:45 pm. Come bring your

children to worship with us while you worship with

adults and Pastor Vicki. We will have a snack, Bible

time and crafts. We are doing something different every

month so don’t miss out on what’s coming next.

2015—Dedicated to Service

Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but

also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4)

We have adopted this verse in Philippians because this

year for the youth will be dedicated to service and the

well-being of others.

Sunday School

We meet each Sunday at 9:45 for Bible study. Joey and

Becky Fontaine will teach about “Seeds of New Growth”,

from the New Testament book of Acts.

Wednesday and Sunday Nights

Come join us at 5:00 pm on Sunday nights and at 6:00

pm Wednesday nights for fun, learning and fellowship as

we grow closer to God.

Youth For Hire

During the next few months, leading up to our

international mission trip, if you have work that one or

several youth could do to help you (yard work, cleaning,

etc.) please contact Trey Fontaine. The youth want to

work for the money they receive for their mission trip.

Your support means a lot to the youth. If you can't

physically come to a fundraiser, you can always leave a

donation in the offering plate designated to the youth

fund. We rely on your weekly contributions and they will

become even more important as we try to raise funds for

our international mission trip in late December.

Back to School Bash

We had such a great turn out of over 100 people on

August 9th at our Back to School bash! The kids had a

blast on the water slides and spacejump. Then we all

enjoyed the food and fellowship. I would like to say a

special THANK YOU to Lindsey and Becky Fontaine

for helping me go get everything we needed. Amanda

Wadford and Kayla Talley for helping me set up. Brian

Lowry for cooking on the hottest day of the summer.

Trey and all the youth for helping make snow cones,

painting faces and manning the inflatables so no one

got hurt. Thank you to everyone who came out and

chaperoned, cleaned up and helped in anyway!

The Backpack Ministry has expanded the program to

include 30 students. Volunteers are needed to commit to

filling bags and delivering them to the school each week.

This will require about two hours of time. There will be

a calendar for sign up. It would be a great project for a

Sunday School class or any other church group. You can

fill the bags at a time that fits your schedule. If you can

be a part of this Mission project or need more

information please contact Bobbie Roe at

601-939-6182 or [email protected]

Concert

We are so

pleased to welcome

Maura McIntosh

Fields in concert

August 30th, at 6:00

pm. Maura will be

sharing her love of Christ through her music.

Maura McIntosh Fields is a singer/songwriter from

Pontotoc, MS. A former k-2nd grade public school

music teacher, Maura began a full time music

ministry in 2010 when she felt God’s call in that

direction. She shares her faith walk through

original songs and the familiar old hymns. Maura is

the daughter of Rev. David and Rosemary McIntosh

of Madison.

We will take up a live offering during the

concert. After worship, you may purchase Maura’s

CD’s in the church foyer. In addition to her

More Couch Potatoes.
