CALL FOR EYU BOOTH PROPOSALS DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 17 TH Exploring Your Universe (EYU) is one of UCLA’s biggest annual events, drawing thousands of children, parents, and friends from the Los Angeles community to our campus the first Sunday in November. This year, EYU is one of the main events celebrating UCLA’s Centennial. We are excited to have your participation to make this beloved science festival better than ever – and it's a perfect way to fulfill EPO (education and public outreach) required by any grant funding you have received! We invite you to submit your idea for a science experience suitable for all ages to be presented at Exploring Your Universe 2019. We will offer up to $100 to fund selected brand-new presentations, or $50 to upgrade presentations that have been part of EYU in the past. Requirements to keep in mind when creating your presentation: o Only one (1) pop-up tent will be supplied unless a strong argument can be made for multiple tents required by your presentation o No food may be distributed o Only one (1) 120-volt power strip will be supplied o One (1) six-foot folding table with 2-3 chairs (additional tables and chairs may be requested contingent upon approval of your proposal) o Access to bottled water, but no running water o Strict adherence to safety code stipulated by UCLA Fire Marshall o May hand out souvenirs to attendees, but absolutely no projectiles o Must be family-friendly (G-rated) Examples of past presentations at EYU include: o Mathematics – You Can Count On It: Build Mobius strips, cross the bridges of Konigsberg, try your luck at probability machines, and untangle logic puzzles as you encounter the wild wonders of mathematics. o Illuminating the World of Molecules: Light can do lots of cool things! Come, look at cool patterns of light and learn how to understand chemistry using light. o Make Your Own Earthquake! Earthquake demonstrations using spring-block models, liquefaction effect and detecting shaking with seismometers. Proposals are limited to one page and must include a budget. They are due on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 12:00 p.m. Please submit your proposal or any questions to Jenelle Bossett-Allen, [email protected]. Notifications of accepted proposals will be sent out on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
