ACCUSPLIT®, an American company, invented the first hand-held digital stopwatch in 1972.

W. Ron Sutton, the ACCUSPLIT, CEO, saw the need to add Memory to the digital stopwatch because some events required accurate tracking of split times and finish times too rapid or numerous to capture during the event. Witnessing a competition timing of a hurdle race with rapid “Step Down Splits” proved that ACCUSPLIT memory stopwatches would fill an important need and becomes #1 in the world.

MEMORY STORY

In 1977, during development of the memory stopwatch, the technology was new, expensive, and rare, so the first memory stopwatch had only 12 splits and 6 dual splits, the ACCUSPLIT 760. As technology improved and costs came down, memory expanded, first to 100, then more. Now, memory is so economical that multiple uses for memory are common, dual splits are standard, and all ACCUSPLIT Memory models are well under $100.

ACCUSPLIT® OPERATING SYSTEM (AOS)

The ACCUSPLIT® Operating System (AOS) evolved out of the special requirements of being able to rapidly capture and review multiple splits. Every time the SPLIT Button is pressed a new SPLIT Time is captured in the LCDisplay and the MEMORY. This Rapid-Split AOS allows the capture of race finishers as rapidly as your can press the SPLIT button.

To be sure that there is no operator confusion, the START Button becomes the SPLIT Button and the last SPLIT action becomes the STOP Time. No need to switch buttons during the timing of an event. This Professional AOS Function is still EXCLUSIVE to ACCUSPLIT Memory Stopwatches, and that button becomes the MASTER CONTROL Button.

MASTER CONTROL Button AOS then enables us to give you another Professional AOS Feature, TWIN Master Control Buttons described on page 6.

In addition, The Memory Review AOS allows dynamic review of memory splits during an event, and instant return to capturing SPLITS when the Master Control SPLIT Button is pressed.

The ACCUSPLIT “X” Case Button Assembly is unique. No one else has ever gone to the trouble and expense to duplicate this specially designed assembly.The ACCUSPLIT Button “action” specification is the catalyst for the unique design. From the beginning, our specification required the electronic switching buttons to feel like the precise mechanical stopwatch buttons from Switzerland. To accomplish that requirement the electronic switch action became a tightly controlled carbon infused rubber membrane dome collapse under the pressure from the button atop the dome.

To achieve the proper feel the button was designed to “rock’” not go straight down. If you look closely, from the side, when you push an “X” Case Button, you will see that it is “rocking” in the direction of a “trigger finger action”, the second fastest nerve-muscle action in the body (the eye lid blink is the fast-est). You will also note, from the side view, that the “X” Case Button slopes to perfectly fit a cocked finger joint which is the proper way to push a button for accurate, controlled timing (not with a thumb). This combination of specifications produc-es the world’s best stopwatch switch assembly.

TWIN BUTTON

The Master Control Button specification from the AOS, allows one button to “Start, Split, Stop.” So, the traditional 2-button design which positions a button under the “trigger finger” (index finger) when properly holding a stopwatch can now have TWIN Master Control Buttons at the top of the X-case. With TWIN Buttons, you can use left or right index finger for accurate, controlled operation.

BUTTON STORY

From the lst ACCUSPLIT Memory Stopwatch, Water Resistance (WR) has been a key design specification. ACCUSPLIT Stopwatches are used in environmentally hostile conditions, with dust, rain, water. Even “high humidity” conditions cause system component deterioration from rust and oxidation coatings on critical surfaces. Switch/button function can easily be compro-mised with simple oxidation of the switch surface.

Every ACCUSPLIT Stopwatch X-Case has been gasketed and sealed with 6 screws for even compression.

The unique Button design (see next story) also allows the Button assembly membrane to better assure WR around the buttons. In all other designs, the button can “squee-gee” moisture into the case with each press. ACCUSPLIT Button assemblies are radially compression sealed against moisture, the strongest non-glue seal.

When professional stopwatch users are writing while timing, the ACCUSPLIT TBX (Timing Board for X-case design stopwatches) is the clipboard to use. The TBX has two critical design parts. The clipboard is de-signed to be held vertically or horizontally by drilling the ACCUSPLIT “X” Case Stopwatch Holder mounting holes in four places.Then the Stopwatch Holder can be mounted so that it is being properly held from behind as if there were no clipboard, left and right handed, horizontal or vertical format.

The ACCUSPLIT SBL Series Stopwatches combine features and functions into the Greenest Digital Stopwatch. The core of the Super Back Light environmental technology is a new, thin, long-life rechargeable battery.

Because the battery holds a substantial charge, we added a Super LED Back Light (SBL) for low-light timing conditions. This power capacity delivers enough power to light the SBLs for 10 continuous hours, 10 minutes at a time (not 6 seconds as with typical backlights). No need to continuously replace batteries over the years of usage. The 3-way recharger kit makes recharging easy and convenient. The Greenest Stopwatch saves you money and reduces the impact on the environment with reduced battery throwaways.

DUAL 5-YEAR WARRANTY

Each ACCUSPLIT Memory Stopwatch has a DUAL 5-Year Limited Warranty label on unit. Our warranty philosophy stems from Hewlett-Packard product service philosophy. Even if we “obsolete” a product model, every owner is en-titled to 5 years of use from the original purchase price and any late warranty service fees. Once an ACCUSPLIT Memory Stopwatch is purchased, the owner will not have to purchase another new model for 5 years.

The DUAL Warranty Label will show two word-ings. The first warranty is the “pre-dated at the factory” service period. We plan on 9 months from last manufacture date to the start of a free year of service, followed by 4 years of low fee service under warranty.The second wording is based on a traditional “Proof of Purchase Receipt” warranty. We use the warranty that gives the owner the maximum benefit.

If you happen to purchase an ACCUSPLIT Mem-ory Stopwatch unit in the 1st month of its manu-facturing cycle you will receive nearly 6 years of warranty. If you purchased a unit two years after its manufactured date, you still receive a traditional 5-year “Proof of Purchase” warranty.
