It is recommended that if you do not have a spare key for your Vintage Car you rush out immediately and get
one and carry it with you. You may never need it however if you do you are prepared. For a number years as Noella and I have travel down the Coke to the Coastal Swap Meet we have met
between 12 and 15 T-Birds heading for the Annual Thunderbird Meet in Kelowna. This year we only saw two. I
wonder why!
Cruise Nights are fun and interesting as they take you places you probably would not go on your own.
Besides it is a time to socialize and drive your Vintage.
Thanks to Joy & Marlene for their Back Road Articles and those that supplied pictures of the tour.
LETTERS to the EDITOR In regards to the picture on June calendar: - Many years ago in Hot Rod magazine there was a photo of a ‘34
coupe in a field with a tree growing out the roof...2 fellows where talking to the farmer and the caption said you can have
the car for free...the tree is $200 dollars Good memories..I was about 18 then. Don L.

Four Amigos plus One
For many years now the four amigo’s Dick Parkes, Jake Surline, Virgil Lysgaard & Julian Slotylak have
traveled to the Coastal Swap Meet. Now that John Rostron is living in Merritt he gets picked up on the way.
Jake just doing some looking while Virgil must be planning on working as he said he needed new coveralls.
Dick and John also just looking and had not found anything at the time of the picture.
Rumour had it that with the quantity and size of Julian’s articles
Jake was going to have to ride back to Kamloops on the roof of Dick’s
van. Maybe only a rumour!
When talking to Al Paulsen before I left for the Swap Meet he said he was going to have
a stall for selling. He must have done OK as when I got there only thing left at the stall was
the marker. Roving Reporter

WOW did we do it!!! Our “Meet The Dean in 2013” May Tour is over and boy, did
we 'do it' well!!
With the incredible Team effort by all of the Kamloops Chapter Members, our Tour
was a total success and you, the volunteers, were the Foundation of this success.
Everyone that came from all over British Columbia thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Each and every one of you that volunteered during the past 3 years, helped to
make “OUR” Tour what people are claiming was “the best tour ever”! Over and over we
are being told
-what an organized team we were
–how happy our members were even under the stress of our event
–how delicious all the meals were (and no lack of food!!)
–what splendid accommodations we organized
–how ideal the location was
–the goody bags were more than they had ever received!
–the doors prizes were HUGE
–how unique the tours were
-our registration team
-our super MC
– ...and the entertainment probably will start a whole new trend!
And on and on and on!!!
Those of you that donated towards the fund raising such as the silent auction items, also assisted the club in
presenting and delivering a resounding success.
The Committee Organizers outdid themselves, each of you were so organized and competent.
How do we thank each and every one of you for your support in your Vintage Car Club? It is impossible to thank
each of you individually. We want you to know what a great team you are and how proud we were to Chair this tour.
Thanking each of you for a “job well done” Ken Hoshowski and Jan Surline
WANT TO SEE AN AD ABOUT YOUR FIRST CAR? Thought you might enjoy seeing your first car ad. This is really cool. Find your first car
or the one you drove to high school or college; hopefully your car brochure is available.
This has to be one of the neatest web sites whether you have gasoline in your veins or
not. This is a website featuring the original factory brochures for nearly every
American car you have ever owned. Pick the manufacturer, the year and the model.

Annual Back Roads ‘N’ Byways Tour {June 7
th - 9
th 2013} organized by John and Linda Rostron
There were 32 people (16 vehicles) that attended this great tour that took
us from Kamloops via back roads past Merritt and Princeton and into Hedley
and Keremeos to the Oliver and Osoyoos areas and back to Kamloops.
The weather was very pleasant -- sunny, warm and dry with a few
evenings of light breezes.
Starting on Friday, we had a great lunch at the Hitching Post Restaurant in
Hedley with some of the South Okanagan Chapter members. After lunch we
were able to wander around the town site to burn off a “tiny” bit of the
calories we all consumed before heading on to the Twin Lakes Store (only 20
minutes away) for ice cream. After we continued on to the Dominion Radio
Astrophysical Observatory off of White Lake Road for a very informative
and interesting tour by guide “Ken” about radio and solar waves. We finally
reached our Oliver destination, the Cactus Tree Inn, were we all settled in for
our stay. The motel had a great patio area for our social hours before and
after dinner where we got to know each other better through great
conversation and banter.
Saturday morning we went to the Desert Center located between Oliver
and Osoyoos for a boardwalk tour about the flora and fauna of the area. After
lunch at the Fire hall Pub in Oliver, Fiona and Irv Wood escorted us on a tour
to Glenn Stephen’s place to see all his treasures--some missed the turn and
did their own tour to Tickleberry’s Ice Cream in Okanagan Falls. A number
of the ladies went shopping on their own to find other treasures in Oliver and
Osoyoos. We all met back at the motel for social hour prior to going for
dinner at the Fairview Golf & Country Club for a buffet dinner of chicken
and ribs and then returned to the motel for further socializing.
Sunday started with breakfast at the Golf and Country Club before we
headed on the back roads through beautiful countryside to the Sunkeya
Alpaca Farm where we had a hosted farm tour by owners Linda and Clay
Schultz .
They even had a couple of baby alpacas for us to see within their herd of
approximately 15. Also, there were some wonderfully crafted items made
from alpaca fibre and many of us purchased these. Those of us that were not
staying for the extra day left for Kamloops. Those of us staying, continued
on with our adventure. From here, about 7 vehicles went with Fiona and Irv
Wood to Osoyoos via the Black Sage back road to Susie Q’s diner for lunch
and then on to a winery for samples and purchases and viewing of local
artists’ works. The others that did not follow, did their own tour either out to
Tickleberry’s Ice Cream in Okanagan Falls or went back to the garage of
Glenn Stephen’s to review the tin treasures or whatever else they found to
do. We all met back at the motel for social hour before heading for dinner at
the “Ye Old Welcome Inn” at Gallagher Lake. After stuffing ourselves, it
was back to the motel for more socializing.
Monday brought a close to the extended version of the tour with everyone
that remained heading back home. It was a very fun-filled, relaxing, and
entertaining event. Written by Marlene Beddie.

THURSDAY NIGHTS First Cruise Night: - Pine Grove Care Center
It was too bad that the weather did not co-operate for this years’ 1st Cruise Night. We
had 8 cars make the trip over to Pine Grove Center. As the residents could not come outside we were treated
inside to coffee, tea and cake along with a Karoke sing along. We were asked to sing but had not takers. If you
have not been on a Cruise Night mark your calendar as they are fun.

Annual Swap Meet
The 2013 Swap Meet was very successful. We had a strong group of volunteers that put in two good days
work. Unfortunately, as in all good events, there were a few volunteers that were not kept busy. A challenge for
the future is to make sure when people make the effort to volunteer that they are put to work and go home
satisfied.
The vendors that I spoke with all were happy with the event and willing to
return next year. All of our groups did an excellent job, as I personally did not
handle a single complaint. The rain held off until late in the day and no one
seemed concerned about a short shower. The sun came out and made cleanup
a pleasant exercise which went very smoothly with the large cleanup crew we
had this year. Next year after the renovations at the Rec Centre we will again
have a new layout and an improved kitchen. Our 2013 revenue will be down
slightly when all the invoices are in, but considering the uncertainty of the
weather I think this is to be expected. To all the Committee members and the
host of volunteers. Thank You for your efforts in making 2013 Swap Meet a
successful event and hope everyone has a very enjoyable summer. Swap Meet Chair John Foley

Glenn Gallagher [May 28th
, 2013] [Kamloops Charter Member 1972]
At Glenn’s Celebration Of Life there were 60 Vintage Car members driving 24
Vintage Cars attended the service at the Colombo Hall on Thursday June 6th.
Glenn was a Charter member of the Kamloops Chapter when the club was formed
in 1972, this was because his love for the restoration of vintage cars.
Glenn was not much for holding a position on the Executive however he was always
there to help out with his ideas and was there to make them work. He has helped many club
members over the years and many can attest to that-- if you needed a part or piece
for your car or even needed a vintage car he always seemed to know of a guy, who
knows a guy, who knows a guy, who has the right thing. The Gallagher’s have
always been great hosts for Vintage Car Members both at their home and at their
Motel hosting many Bar B Qs and Christmas parties.
Last year in 2012 the club held its 40th
Anniversary party and to celebrate it, Glenn with the Clubs permission, had a 40 year pin made up, he paid for the first
200 pins---they are now a collector item. Pictured on the pin was Glenn’s 1938
Chev that was in the 1st Easter Parade. There never has been an Easter Parade without a Gallagher car in attendance.
We are truly going to miss him. Bob Gieselman
Brian Roberts [June 8th
, 2013] [Member since 1997] Our Chapter has lost another veteran member with the passing of Brian last weekend.
Brian joined our Chapter in 1997 after moving to Kamloops with his partner, Maxine
Jensen from Williams Lake and establishing a second Central Equipment Tractor sales
and service business on the KIB Reserve. A few years later he built a new building in the
Campbell Creek Industrial Park and moved his business and residence to that location.
Although he continued to be occupied running his business right up until the end, Brian and
Maxine used to be regulars at our events driving one of his many vintage automobiles including the Chrysler Airflow,
Oldsmobile Luxury Sedan or one of his Internationals. Unfortunately, Maxine has severe Alzheimer’s Disease and now
resides in Bedford Manor. Our condolences go out to Maxine and to Brian’s family. { I understand the service will be in
Williams Lake}
Ken Littlejohns [June 9th
, 2013] [Member since 2002]
Ken joined the Kamloops
Chapter in 2002. He served on
the Executive and enjoyed
driving his 1964 Mercury Comet
convertible. During Cruise Nights
he did not always get the top down
as Lynn like to have it up as she said it was too hot with it
down. You could see Ken and his car parked in the 200
block during Hot Nite In The City.
No matter where he went with or without his car he took the time to talk to someone whether he knew them
or not.
Ken was quite well known around the Kamloops soft ball parks as he really knew how to hit those home
runs. Sorry to see you leave us Ken.
